With that, everyone was deployed except for Dan Moroboshi.
Yamanaka piloted GUTS Wing 1, while Saijo, Megumi, Kishida, and Qi Ming boarded GUTS Wing 2. The first craft was equipped with a microwave cannon, the only device TPC currently possessed capable of reaching the underground. Megumi hoped that the electromagnetic waves it emitted would suppress the gushing subterranean fire, allowing Qi Ming to evacuate safely.
"Alright, you can let me off now," Qi Ming said as they approached the operational zone. He activated the PDI communicator in his jacket pocket, allowing the other team members to monitor his movements at all times so they could judge the situation and make decisions.
"Be careful," Megumi said.
"Actually, I've been very careful ever since I arrived here, walking on thin ice," Qi Ming replied.
As the second craft landed, Qi Ming jumped from the cockpit. After waving to the other three members, he put on his sunglasses and assumed the air of an officer in pursuit, heading toward the area where the "Underground Woman" was located.
"Walking on thin ice, my foot. He's walking like he owns the place," Kishida remarked from inside GUTS Wing 2 as it ascended back above the clouds.
Inside GUTS Wing 1, which had reached the T7-B area first, Yamanaka asked, "Kishida, tell me, where should I fire the microwave cannon?"
"Wait a moment, I'm still analyzing the seismic wave dynamics... Found it. The target is the intersection in front of the radio tower. Yamanaka, you only have one shot, be precise."
"Leave it to me! I can't let that kid Qi Ming take all the glory."
At this hour, there were few pedestrians left on the streets. Qi Ming walked along the silent road; even with his sunglasses on, his imposing demeanor attracted many eyes.
*If there's only one shot, shouldn't Nagi Saijo be the one to take it? She's more steady,* he thought while listening to the exchange on the communication channel.
Just then, Nagi Saijo, eyes fixed on the monitors, ordered, "Attention everyone, Officer Qi Ming has made contact with the target. We are now issuing the evacuation notice."
Under the dim streetlights, Qi Ming walked with slow, powerful strides toward the Underground Woman, who was also wearing sunglasses. She turned around and, instead of fleeing, walked toward him.
Qi Ming got straight to the point: "Come with me. I suggest you don't resist; it will save me some effort and you some suffering."
The Underground Woman spoke in a raspy voice, "What do you intend to do?"
"The staff wants to invite you to be our guest to discuss a plan for coexistence between the Underground people and humanity," Qi Ming said.
"Do you believe that?" she asked.
Qi Ming replied, "My opinion doesn't matter; it depends on whether you believe it."
The Underground Woman's voice turned cold. "Coexistence? How? Who would lead this coexistence? Spare me the platitudes! Once we stop resisting, you will surely persecute us until our nation and race are destroyed! We would end up like the Native Americans. The fate of the Underground people must be in our own hands!"
Qi Ming retorted, "Aren't you the one spouting platitudes? 'Resist,' you say? Wasn't it you who voluntarily abandoned the surface in the first place? And now, to invade and reclaim it, you don't mind colluding with 'foreign forces' to wipe out the people on the surface."
In GUTS Wing 2, Kishida was becoming anxious. He noted that Qi Ming was usually sharp-tongued and could silence them with a single retort, yet he wasn't using this special talent to stabilize the Underground Woman and lure her back to base.
"Perhaps Officer Qi Ming disdains such tactics," Megumi said. Even she, who got along well with Qi Ming, felt that he always carried a natural, calm sense of superiority.
Below, Qi Ming heard the footsteps in the distance shift from dense to sparse, signaling that the evacuation of the civilians was almost complete. As the negotiations broke down, the Underground Woman let out a shrill, screeching, "Wao!"
"Wao your head! Are the Underground people this uncivilized? Screaming like a ghost in the middle of the night and disturbing the peace!" Qi Ming bent down, picked up a pebble, and flicked it into her open mouth, cutting off her scream.
"Saved... *gag*... Good job, Qi Ming." Yamanaka and the others, wearing surround-sound headsets, had nearly been incapacitated by the screech.
GUTS Wing 1 had already switched to its closed-wing cruising mode, hovering steadily less than ten meters above the intersection. Kishida hurriedly asked, "Officer Yamanaka, are you still alive? The subterranean fire is about to break through!"
"I'm perfectly fine! *Gag*..."
"Five seconds until the optimal window for attack. Countdown starting. Five, four, three... wait, this fluctuation is..."
Megumi also looked shocked. "The giant creature beneath the strata has started moving too... It’s right below you, Yamanaka! Get out of there!"
"Boom!" Suddenly, the ground cracked open, and a light-brown monster emerged. It had a flat head, clearly defined musculature, and thick protrusions running along its back from the neck. Its massive tail whipped toward GUTS Wing 1. It was the monster controlled by the Underground people—Terrestrial Monster, Telesdon!
"Damn it! They really are working together!" Yamanaka tried to dodge, but the maneuverability of GUTS Wing 1 in cruising mode was poor, and there was no time to evade.
"Bang!" GUTS Wing 1 was struck by Telesdon's tail and spiraled down into the street, trailing black smoke like a kite with a broken string.
"Officer Yamanaka, get out of there! The fire is coming up!" Nagi Saijo shouted, watching the data fluctuations on her screen, but there was no response. Yamanaka had fallen unconscious from the violent impact.
"Roar!" Telesdon charged relentlessly toward the downed craft, intent on crushing the cockpit and Yamanaka inside.
"Stopped the screeching, but the monster was summoned anyway..." Seeing this, Qi Ming ducked into a public restroom and hung up his PDI communicator. He tapped a button, and the mechanical core of the device on his wrist rose. He turned the dial, and the silhouette of Tiga appeared on the screen.
"For an opponent like this, Tiga is enough."
He pressed the core. A silver-white light shot into the sky, and Ultraman Tiga appeared!
"Look, it's the Ultraman from the pyramid!" Kishida exclaimed.
"Ultraman has come to help us!" Megumi added.
In the command center, the tension in Dan Moroboshi's heart slowly began to ease.
"Officer Qi Ming, Ultraman and the monster are about to fight in the city, evacuate immediately... Wait?" Nagi Saijo paused. There was no response; she realized Qi Ming had logged off the communication channel. What was the meaning of this?
"Bang!" In the intersection, Tiga leaped into the air and delivered a powerful punch, channeling all his strength into the head of the Telesdon that was charging toward GUTS Wing 1.
The "Golden Fist"! This heavy blow caused Telesdon to collapse, nearly falling over entirely. Taking advantage of the monster's instability, Qi Ming performed a shoulder throw, tossing it into the center of the intersection—the exact spot where the subterranean fire was about to erupt.
"Boom!" A moment later, the sacred flames of the Kyrieloid erupted, and Telesdon, blocking the "volcano" opening, was blasted straight into the sky.
