Chapter 19: Comical Daily Life, A Joyful Counterattack
With the crisis resolved and the project back on track, a more relaxed atmosphere began to permeate the lives of Zhou Dan and his team members.
One day, Zhou Dan arrived at the studio early to find a group of his colleagues huddled together, laughing uproariously. Curious, he drifted over to join them.
Little Li, the programmer, was gesturing animatedly as he recounted a story. "Let me tell you, I had the funniest experience yesterday. I went to buy some fruit and asked the vendor, 'Are these grapes sweet?' He replied, 'Sweet! If they aren't, come back and find me!' So I bought a bunch, but when I got home and tried one—oh man, they were so sour my teeth almost fell out. I went back to the vendor today to confront him: 'These grapes you sold me aren't sweet at all!' And guess what he said? He looked completely unfazed and said, 'Well, you've had them for a day now; it’s only natural they aren't sweet anymore. They were definitely sweet when I sold them to you yesterday.' I was so stunned I didn't have a comeback." The group erupted into another round of laughter.
Xiao Zhao, the designer, wasn't about to be outdone. "I've got one too. My neighbor's kid is a real handful. He was playing in the neighborhood yesterday and somehow caught a snail. He wanted to play with it, so he kept tapping on its shell, saying, 'Come on out, I won't hurt you.' The snail wouldn't budge, so the kid got impatient, ran to the kitchen, grabbed a hammer, and threatened, 'If you don't come out, I'm going to smash it!' We were all just standing there, completely dumbfounded." The team laughed until tears streamed down their faces.
Zhou Dan couldn't help but laugh along. "Those are nothing," he said with a grin. "Let me tell you one. A friend of mine was taking his driving test. He was incredibly nervous for the road test. As soon as he got into the car, the examiner said, 'Please begin the test.' In his nerves, my friend turned to the steering wheel and said, 'Steering wheel, please begin the test.' The examiner was completely baffled, and the whole car couldn't hold back their laughter."
Just as they were enjoying the hilarity, Sister Zhang from the marketing department walked over, looking conspiratorial. "Let me give you the latest scoop. My husband insisted on showing off his cooking skills yesterday by making sweet and sour pork ribs. He mixed up the sugar and salt, and the taste—it was something else. I took one bite and asked, 'Is this sweet and sour pork or salt and sour pork?' And guess what he said? He told me, 'Oh, this is a new flavor I invented called Salt-Style Sweet and Sour Ribs. It helps with weight loss, and I made it just for you.' I honestly don't know what to do with him."
Amidst the laughter and joy, Zhou Dan felt a long-lost sense of relaxation and vitality within the team. This cheerful atmosphere seemed to make all the accumulated stress vanish into thin air. He knew that after all the hardships they had endured, everything they had now was hard-won, and these small, delightful moments in life were the perfect seasoning for their journey of hard work.
Carrying this lightness and pleasure with them, the team members dove back into their busy work. But unlike before, everyone wore a smile, and their efficiency was remarkably high. They all knew that as long as they maintained this optimism and positivity, the days ahead would only get better, and their studio would continue to create its own brilliance within this atmosphere filled with laughter.
