Chapter 7: The Righteous Sun Knight

After finishing the meal, Ye Sheng received a call and hurriedly left, not forgetting to glare fiercely at Li Xingming before stepping out.
“Once I’m done, I’ll log in and crush you.”
“Okay, meow.”
The door closed.
Time to wash the dishes.
Usually, unless something unexpected happened, Jiang Qianqian would cook at home, and Li Xingming would conscientiously take on the dishwashing duty... mainly because dishwashing had no potential for developing magical spirits.
Any supernatural ability must be channeled through the manipulation of magical spirits.
There are two ways to acquire magical spirits: one is through enlightenment of concepts related to magical spirits, nurturing them within the sea of consciousness inside the body; the other is to obtain magical spirits externally and form a contract with them, transforming them into one’s own magical spirits.
Regardless of how the magical spirit is obtained, it lodges within a human’s "sea of consciousness," also simply called the mind sea.
In Saiguo, ordinary people must undergo a third-year high school supernatural awakening test to open the mind sea within their body.
Then, with the help of awakening serums, they cross the boundary between mortal and supernatural.
This is the standard and reliable awakening method.
After awakening, one becomes a first-tier supernatural being. A first-tier supernatural being’s mind sea contains two “voids,” meaning they can contract with two magical spirits.
Li Xingming had already made plans for Jiang Qianqian: one magical spirit related to cooking, expected to awaken and nurture automatically after her own awakening, easy and effortless, requiring no worry from Li Xingming.
The other was the innate magical spirit he planned to seek in ruins.
For Li Xingming, ancient ruins were no stranger; they were practically his old home.
Unfortunately, his current strength couldn’t compare to his peak period before reincarnation. So before boldly venturing back to his old familiar territory, he needed to prepare some groundwork.
After washing the dishes, Li Xingming moved the delivery boxes at the door into the study, unpacked them one by one, and carefully arranged the raw materials on the table.
Low-quality supernatural materials, crafted into disposable tools using simple runes and crucible techniques. These tools didn’t require a supernatural aptitude to use, making them perfect for Li Xingming.
Jiang Qianqian was stretching on a yoga mat in the living room, occasionally glancing into the study, but she paid no attention to Li Xingming’s supernatural tool-making.
If anyone else with even a bit of expertise had seen Li Xingming’s methods, they would have definitely questioned his approach.
He was overly skilled, mixing in many operations that went against standardized industrial processes, exuding a strong “I’m just winging it” vibe.
Leaving aside whether the tools would actually work, the process itself looked perilous, with a certain beauty that suggested it could explode at any moment.
Paired with Jiang Qianqian’s relaxed face as she peacefully did yoga in the living room, the whole scene was absurd.
But there was no helping it; Jiang Qianqian admired Li Xingming so much.
In her eyes, Ah Ming was the most formidable person in the world. Any decision he made had to be executed without question. Even if Ah Ming pulled her in front to take a bullet, she might believe that bullet contained some hidden mechanism unknown to the world, so hitting her forehead wouldn’t shatter her skull but instead bloom a bright flower... or something like that.

Childhood sweethearts, innocent and pure, their unshakable trust was difficult for outsiders to comprehend.
Around 10:30 p.m., Jiang Qianqian went to apply a face mask, preparing for a beauty sleep.
Li Xingming spent a moment scrolling through the class group chat on his phone (no parents, no teachers, no counselors, no school leaders version).
Then he opened Ye Sheng’s chat window.
[Li Xingming Official: Wanna start a game?]
[Li Xingming Official: Okay, looks like you’re still busy. I’ll sleep first, maybe spar another day.]
At midnight.
Li Xingming pressed his ear against the wall, listening for a while to confirm Jiang Qianqian was sound asleep. He then changed into a full outfit suitable for nighttime action and leapt out the window, sliding down the drainpipe.
Ssss…
The rustic combat gloves and metal plates of Sixth Epoch style, rubbing along the drainpipe, emitted a low hum, blending into the heartbeat of the city at night.
As mentioned before, the young master of the Li family, Li Xingming, received monthly pocket money from his grandmother.
This money covered his daily expenses since he had no extravagant material hobbies. His biggest apparent spending was enrolling Jiang Qianqian in classes and buying stockings.
However, supernatural materials were quite costly, so Li Xingming had to find ways to cover those expenses himself.
As an ancient man, Li Xingming didn’t possess many modern money-making skills. His only advantages were combat experience from his previous life and the powerful physique granted by reincarnation.
Though he hadn’t awakened supernatural powers yet, he was a formidable fighter.
So his method of earning pocket money was clear.
He joined the official outsourcing group of the Maple Sugar City Police Department, occasionally taking on outsourced security jobs.
He used a separate account unrelated to his daily life.
Tonight, a rather tricky mission was posted in the group. Since about eight o’clock, the admin had repeatedly @mentioned everyone.
Someone apparently accepted the task, but it remained unfinished, indicating that those who took it had all suffered shameful failure.
This was a situation Li Xingming was happy to see; a tough mission meant a higher bounty. Moreover, this task was to "defeat elite supernatural creatures in the contaminated zone" — a spatial distortion area with chaotic spiritual energy that occasionally appeared near Maple Sugar City.
He reviewed the mission details — it involved fighting, and luckily he had enough stock of homemade supernatural tools to handle it.
Opening the map link in the task, Li Xingming glanced at the location: the northern fourth ring of Maple Sugar City, not a bustling area, but there was a foreign-invested factory nearby, fairly close to the employee dormitory.
It had been unfinished for quite a while; the official side must be anxious now.
[Justice Sun Knight: @Admin, increase the bounty by 30%.]
[Admin: 30% is a bit much [daydreaming][daydreaming]]
[Justice Sun Knight: Then I’m off to sleep, good night meow~]

[Admin: Wait! Let me ask the boss]
[Admin: The boss said at most 15%, you know, funds are tight lately…]
[Admin: Hello? Anyone there?]
[Admin: [Lucky Dong Snow Lotus of the Year of the Rabbit _ haha]]
[Admin: …]
[Admin: Fine, 30%, but only if you really can take down the elite monster.]
[Justice Sun Knight: I guarantee it.]
[Justice Sun Knight: I’m taking a taxi now. Can I get a receipt for travel reimbursement?]
[Admin: …]
[Admin: Sure.]
[Justice Sun Knight: An electronic invoice is fine, right? I don’t like carrying weird paper stuff lately.]
[Admin: Sure, meow.]
[Justice Sun Knight: Getting in the car.]
[Admin: [Lucky Dong Snow Lotus of the Year of the Rabbit _ cute cat]]
Li Xingming was well aware of Maple Sugar City Police’s budget for outsourced security and knew exactly how to price himself to maximize earnings.
“New reinforcements arrived?”
“Yeah…”
“Why is he taking a taxi? Didn’t you tell him a temporary anchor point has been set up here? Or does he live far from the nearest teleport anchor…”
“Because he’s zero-tier.”
“…”
The provincial inspection officer fixed a sharp gaze on the female police officer fiddling with the battlefield surveillance equipment.
Scratching his ear, he said,
“Say that again?”
“The newcomer is a zero-tier high school student… Boss, I know you’re anxious, but please don’t be. ‘Justice Sun Knight’ is his ID; you can check the police system. This kid has an impressive record. He’s helped resolve several contaminated zone incidents and supernatural out-of-control events. Both his abilities and moral character are trustworthy, meow.”
