Volume 1, Chapter 10: Dongfang Wan'er is a Tigress, and the Livestream Duration Has Increased
After a busy night, Qin Fan caught his breath and opened the livestreaming app on his fully charged, antique-looking smartphone. He noticed that Dongfang Wan’er was already waiting in the channel.
"Wan’er, have you been waiting here for a long time?"
"Qin Fan, you finally spoke!"
Qin Fan could tell that Dongfang Wan’er’s voice was filled with excitement.
"Oh! I attended a wedding today, so I couldn't open the livestream. I’m truly sorry!"
"I see! That’s alright then!"
"By the way, aren't you going out right now?"
"It’s nighttime here. Night is when the zombies come out. The streets and alleys are crawling with them. If you’re discovered once you go out, you won't even have your bones left."
"That’s terrifying. You really must be careful, Wan’er."
Qin Fan hadn't expected the situation to be so dire; if it were him, he wouldn't have been able to hold on for this long.
"Captain, I found a handsome guy for you. This is the apocalypse, you know! You need to have heirs just like the rest of us!"
Shen Hui knocked on the door.
"Huh? Dongfang Wan’er doesn't have a partner?"
Hearing the voice from the broadcast, Dongfang Wan’er hurriedly deactivated her ability, followed by the sound of her kicking Shen Hui away.
"Shen Hui, if you mess around again, I won't be so gentle next time."
...
She reactivated her ability and reconnected with Qin Fan.
"Sorry, that guy interrupted us for a moment."
"It's fine!"
Her voice was so pleasant; she must be beautiful, yet she didn't have a boyfriend.
"Qin Fan, we’ve collected several energy kidneys. Try them out now."
With that, seven or eight energy kidneys appeared in Qin Fan’s hand. Looking at the foul-smelling items, he reminded himself of their benefits, held his breath, and swallowed them in one go.
Slowly, he felt his body connecting with the livestream, even sensing the movements within the room on the other side. He felt an inexhaustible surge of energy within him. Furthermore, the time limit on the livestream increased from thirty minutes to three hours.
***
"Holy cow! It really works."
"Wan’er, the livestream time changed! It went from thirty minutes to three hours!"
"That’s because you absorbed the energy kidneys, which strengthened your ability," Dongfang Wan’er reasoned.
"Wan’er, do you need any supplies over there?" Qin Fan asked. He needed to know what they lacked so he could prepare.
"Well... we haven't finished the twenty thousand steamed buns you sent, so we’re okay for now. But if there’s one thing we’re truly lacking, it’s medicine. The air here is filled with toxic gases, and ordinary people and children often get sick or infected because of the environment. So, medicine is what we need most," she explained.
"Medicine!"
That was hard to come by. To buy medicine in bulk, one would have to go through hospitals, which in turn were regulated by the state. Aside from basic supplies, most pharmaceuticals were tightly controlled by the medical bureau. But then he thought, with all the gold they had there, couldn't he just open a hospital? If he had enough gold, opening a hospital was certainly possible.
"Look, Wan’er, it might be difficult for me to prepare a large amount of medicine right now, but I can certainly manage some basic anti-inflammatories and alcohol."
"That’s fine! Having anti-inflammatories and alcohol is already considered top-tier supplies here."
"Also, you can't just keep eating steamed buns. I’ll find other things for you."
"That... is that too much trouble?" Dongfang Wan’er knew how hard these things were to get. She already felt indebted to Qin Fan for the steamed buns alone, and now he wanted to provide even more.
"It’s no trouble. Food is easy to find here. We have plenty of fruit, and it’s almost harvest season. As soon as they ripen, I can send them to you."
"Fruit!" She hadn't heard that word in a long time. The environment and water sources had been polluted; the whole world, let alone the people, was withered and rotting away. They hadn't had any vitamins for a whole year, and some had already developed scurvy. Some children were even born deformed or stillborn due to vitamin deficiencies.
"Yes, fruit! We have so much fruit every year that it just rots on the ground because no one wants it. I figured since you’re short on supplies, I could send it to you."
"No one wants it? It rots on the ground?" Dongfang Wan’er felt that this was a terrible waste. A single banana would be enough to drive countless people mad, let alone a whole pile of it.
"By the way, thank you so much for the short drama you sent me. If I make money from it, I’ll definitely treat you to a big meal!" Qin Fan said happily.
***
"I’ll be waiting. I hope you make a fortune." Dongfang Wan’er’s tone was gentle, unlike the domineering and unquestionable way she spoke to Shen Hui.
The three hours passed quickly, and Qin Fan began to feel sleepy.
After a full night, he woke up the next morning to a notification that he had been signed.
"Dear Creator, your short drama 'After Marriage, the First Love Regrets' is very interesting. Your work has met the signing standards of our Tengfei Video website. If you are interested, please contact the editor, 'Happy Spicy Strip'."
Soon, Qin Fan signed the contract. He had only uploaded three episodes before, but after signing, he began dividing the content from his USB drive into two episodes per day, scheduled for automatic release. He wasn't sure if it would go viral, but he was just treating it as a side job.
Throughout the day, Qin Fan returned from town with two roasted ducks and several famous local dishes.
At the dinner table, "Xiaofan, eat more so you have strength."
"That’s right, son, eat up," Li Ping and Qin Yong said, both piling food into his bowl.
"What’s the use of eating more? He’s already an adult; he won't grow any taller. With all this nutrition, you should have invited your eldest uncle’s youngest son over to eat; he’d definitely grow taller!"
"And Xiaofan, even if your uncle doesn't come here often, he really thinks of you. Look, he even brought you something good to drink." The old woman took out a bottle of liquor. "Look, this is Moutai, a famous brand! He was saving it for his eldest son’s wedding, but he gave it to you instead." The old woman boasted, "You shouldn't be stingy in the future."
"Is that so?" Qin Fan looked at the bottle. Aside from the two characters that spelled "Moutai," everything else about it looked fake.
"Son, don't say anything. If the old woman starts making a scene, the whole village will know," Qin Yong whispered, helpless against his mother.
