Ironrock severed the life link between himself and Coldshadow, his expression shifting uncertainly.

As a reserve-level dimensional apostle who had undergone seven trials, he had prioritized strengthening his power and constitution, only managing to raise both attributes to nine points.

Yet even then, he had been no match for that summoned creature. Its power attribute had most likely reached the maximum of ten points.

That was why he had decided to back down and offer sufficient compensation.

“Listen to you, friend. Coldshadow has only just completed his reserve trial and is still inexperienced. I hope you can be generous with him.” Ironrock reluctantly took out a minor energy potion that restored energy.

Healing potions and energy potions were the two most popular restorative consumables in Paradise. Manufactured by lifestyle apostles, they were sold in such enormous quantities that they had forcibly driven down the prices of all other restorative consumables.

They were sold at only a ten-percent profit, with Paradise regulating their prices. Minor healing potions fluctuated around one hundred and fifty Paradise points, while minor energy potions cost roughly four hundred.

For Ironrock, offering one minor healing potion and one minor energy potion was already a considerable show of sincerity.

He himself did not have many restorative items left.

“Aren’t you going to show some sincerity too?” Chu Danqing’s gaze fell on Coldshadow.

It was only right that Ironrock should pay. His plan was obvious: one of them would play the villain and the other the peacemaker, then use the Tiger-Dragon Alliance’s backing to turn a serious matter into a minor one and let minor matters pass altogether.

Coldshadow’s own strength was not impressive. With an ugly expression, he took out a minor healing potion.

His situation was even worse. He had only two bottles in total, and now he had to spare one for Chu Danqing.

Big Treasure slowly reined in his killing intent, took the items, and returned to Chu Danqing’s side.

The instant Chu Danqing saw the minor energy potion, he knew it was valuable. He had seen its price earlier: four hundred and ten Paradise points per bottle.

And it was still the cheapest consumable for restoring energy.

[Minor Energy Potion]

[Type: Consumable]

[Quality: Common]

[Effect: After being completely consumed, immediately restores twenty points of energy. May be consumed in portions to obtain a corresponding percentage of recovery.]

It was expensive, but there was a reason for the price. Its effects far surpassed those of a minor healing potion.

After putting the items away, Chu Danqing ignored Ironrock and the others, turning his gaze instead toward the area beyond the protective barrier.

The countdown was about to end, and the commotion outside was gradually drawing closer.

Cries, roars, and other sounds all made it clear that the situation amid the blizzard was far from optimistic.

The others were preparing as well—but they were preparing to flee.

Chu Danqing was different. He was preparing to rescue people.

He did not believe that this situation had arisen for no reason. Paradise had placed them here for a purpose.

It was much like his own reserve trial. Because he had gotten off to a good start, everything that followed had gone smoothly.

Big Treasure’s basic attributes were all at nine points, but with the enhancement from Summoning Fundamentals, Level 5, they had reached ten.

With Chu Danqing providing support, their chances of rescuing people and killing enemies were quite high.

When the countdown ended, the blizzard surged toward them. Several people also came running in their direction.

Many of them were wounded.

Ironrock and the other members of the Tiger-Dragon Alliance immediately fled backward.

The flat-topped young man did not leave. He seemed to have other plans.

But soon, he saw the number of pursuers—at least twenty in total. After weighing the situation, he withdrew immediately.

Most importantly, his Detection Spell had revealed that the leader of the pursuers was no weaker than he was. The man carried a flower-patterned battle-axe and was bare-chested despite the bitter cold.

In the end, only Chu Danqing and Big Treasure remained.

If Ironrock had stayed as well, the three of them, together with the other apostles’ assistance, would have had an extremely high chance of victory.

As things stood, Chu Danqing was still confident he could win.

He cast the Detection Spell, and the leader’s digitized information appeared before him.

[Chief of Green Cliff Stronghold]

[Attributes]

[Health: 100%]

[Mana: 60]

[Strength: 7]

[Agility: 6]

[Constitution: 7]

[Spirit: 6]

[Perception: 6]

[Skills]

[White Tiger Weapon-Tempering Manual, Level 1]

[Battle Formation: Wild Goose Formation, Level 1]

His attributes were indeed considerably higher than those of an ordinary person, especially his strength and constitution. However, his immunity to the cold did not come from his attributes.

From the skill descriptions, Chu Danqing also discerned the leader’s identity. Unless he was a disguised government soldier, he was likely part of a band of deserters.

Unfortunately, Chu Danqing’s Detection Spell and attributes were not high enough. Otherwise, he would have been able to see more.

“Big Treasure, you take care of the small fry. I’ll deal with the big one.”

The moment Chu Danqing finished speaking, Big Treasure activated Rending Claws.

With a roar, he plunged straight into the bandits.

“Where did this fledgling come from? How dare he—”

The Chief of Green Cliff Stronghold had not even finished speaking when he saw five chain-like objects sink into his body.

He then felt nearly thirty percent of his mana drain away. Before he could make another move, the chains abruptly collapsed.

“You’re the one behind this, boy! Die for me!”

The Chief of Green Cliff Stronghold glared furiously, raised his flower-patterned battle-axe, and charged at Chu Danqing, bringing it down toward his head.

A figure stepped out from behind Chu Danqing. He wore leather armor, three bulging quivers and a short blade hanging from his waist, and held a repeating crossbow in his hands.

Under the terrified gaze of the Chief of Green Cliff Stronghold, the repeating crossbow unleashed a dense storm of bolts.

“Tiger Leaps the Ravine!”

The chief swung his battle-axe. His mana instantly dropped to rock bottom, while a phantom white tiger appeared before him.

As though leaping across a mountain ravine, it surged forth and blocked the bolts, sparing him the fate of being turned into a pincushion.

The repeating crossbowman’s magazine was emptied of bolts, and the Chief of Green Cliff Stronghold seized the opportunity to attack.

But before he could do so, Chu Danqing struck first. Five life links fastened themselves to the chief.

Seeing that the chains were of a different kind, the chief felt a growing sense of unease.

Then he saw Chu Danqing draw a short blade and slash it across his own throat.

In an instant, his throat was cut open, yet not a drop of blood sprayed out.

[You inflicted 3 points of lethal damage upon yourself, dealing 97 points of shared damage to the life-link target.]

The next moment, Chu Danqing canceled the life link, decisively stuffed a medicinal soup dumpling into his mouth, chewed twice, and swallowed. The superficial wound on his throat began to heal.

[You have killed the Chief of Green Cliff Stronghold.]

The chief had not even understood what had happened before his health reached zero and he died on the spot.

It almost looked as though Chu Danqing had cursed him to death.

“Go help Big Treasure.”

After Chu Danqing spoke, the repeating-crossbowman began reloading and firing precise shots.

Every bolt struck a vital point. One could only say that he truly lived up to the name of an elite.

The coordination between ranged and close combat made their fighting efficiency far superior to before.

As expected, the remaining bandits would not survive for more than three minutes. Remembering that evil had to be eradicated completely, Chu Danqing called out to Big Treasure and the repeating-crossbowman:

“Leave a few alive. I have a use for them.”

After saying this, Chu Danqing leisurely opened the repeating-crossbowman’s attribute panel and began examining it.

When he finished, he immediately felt that he had made an extraordinary bargain.
