Chapter 29: Officer Rabbit, An Iconic Scene!
In the livestream, new viewers began posting comments: "Officer Tan, I just watched the videos posted on *Tan Reviews Traffic*; they are so funny! When will you do a live traffic law enforcement session again?"
"Yes! I'm very interested too!"
"I learned about Officer Tan because of the rumors spread by the Tang couple. After watching the videos, I’ve developed a strong interest in traffic law education!"
"Officer Tan’s traffic law segments are so entertaining—it’s like watching a comedy sketch!"
"It’s not too late yet; we can still stream for a while!"
Seeing so many viewers eager for his traffic law segments, Tan Ping smiled and said, "Alright, let's do it."
"Officer Tan, isn't it a bad idea to host the show right now? You're still injured..." his cameraman, Lin Shigong, immediately advised upon learning of Tan's plan.
"This little injury is nothing! We have so many people in the livestream right now; we should strike while the iron is hot!" Tan Ping smiled as he put on his police cap.
Soon, the group arrived at the scene. Hearing that Tan Ping was continuing the broadcast, his colleagues hurried over as well.
His mentor, Wang Xingyun, asked with concern, "Ping, can you hold up? Why don't you let Weiwei take over for a while?"
The "Weiwei" he referred to was Officer Li Yuwei, known to the public as "Officer Bunny." She also enjoyed great popularity on Douyin.
"I can still manage! But it would be good for Weiwei to get some practice," Tan Ping replied with a nod.
He called Li Yuwei: "Weiwei, please put aside what you're doing and come to the scene to host the show."
"Tan Ping, um, I have a bit of social anxiety. I tend to forget my lines in front of the camera!" Li Yuwei said, feeling embarrassed.
Previously, whenever she directed traffic on the road, she would feel awkward if passersby started filming her. Now, being asked to host a traffic law program alone made her feel stage fright. Furthermore, whenever she caught a traffic violator, they would often provoke her verbally rather than fearing her, which made her worry about losing control of the situation.
At the very beginning of the program, they had tried letting her host. During that first live session, she caught a driver without a helmet who not only refused to cooperate but also began to harass her verbally. When she called for a stop, the offender simply drove off! In desperation, she had to radio Tan Ping for backup. Some drivers even treated the section she patrolled as an "internet-famous" spot, getting ticketed at the same intersection three times without ever changing their behavior. Because of this, Li Yuwei had moved from the front lines to behind the scenes. Otherwise, with her popularity on Douyin, the program would have been much more explosive early on. However, that would have changed the essence of the show.
"How about this! We'll host it together!" Tan Ping suggested with a smile.
"Okay!" Li Yuwei agreed.
She hurried to the scene shortly after. The sky had already darkened, and the flickering streetlights added a unique atmosphere. Seeing "Officer Bunny" on camera, the viewers immediately flooded the chat:
"Is that Officer Bunny?"
"She's so cute! If I punched her, would she cry for a long time?"
"Officer Bunny, can I join the force? I’ll be a police dog!"
"Officer Bunny, real name Li Yuwei, born in 1998, from Yuhang, majored in preschool education, joined the traffic police squadron in 2021, current boyfriend: @kele."
Seeing the comments take a strange turn, Li Yuwei quickly said, "Cameraman, don't film me! Don't film me! Focus on Tan Ping; I'll just assist from the side!"
Lin Shigong immediately shifted the camera back to Tan Ping. Just then, Tan Ping’s sharp eyes caught a red car stopped at the intersection ahead, and he quickly walked over.
"Something's happening!" the viewers commented.
"Follow him!" Wang Xingyun signaled to the other colleagues.
Just then, the red car started moving, heading toward Tan Ping. He immediately signaled, "Quick, stop that red car, license plate Qiong B9527!"
The motorcycle unit moved into action, shouting from behind, "Qiong B9527, please pull over immediately! Qiong B9527, please pull over immediately!"
However, the more they shouted, the faster the car drove.
"What's going on? Are they trying to flee?" The viewers were suddenly energized.
Eventually, the red car didn't get far; it was intercepted by a patrol vehicle. Tan Ping quickly caught up, and the cameraman aimed the lens at the red car. Inside sat an elderly man wearing a hat, looking quite aged.
"Huh? That old man looks pretty old! Is he even allowed to drive?" the viewers asked.
Tan Ping leaned in and asked, "Why did you run just now?"
"Were you calling me?" the old man asked, feigning surprise.
Beside him, Lin Shigong reminded him, "We were shouting through a megaphone the whole time: 'Qiong B9527, please pull over immediately!' The more we shouted, the faster you drove!"
"Are you calling me? I’m embarrassed to even say this, but you were shouting 'Qiong Bi' (Poor loser) at me—is that right? Of course I had to run! I’m no poor loser! Can a poor loser drive a car this nice?" The old man was clearly offended.
"That’s not what we were calling you; we were calling your car!" Tan Ping corrected him.
"Calling my car isn't okay either!" the old man insisted.
"We were calling your license plate number. Don't tell me you don't even remember your own plate?" Tan Ping looked at him suspiciously. He pulled out his notebook and said sternly, "Name!"
Seeing Tan Ping’s tone, Lin Shigong immediately zoomed in on the old man's face. Sure enough, the man looked incredibly flustered.
"There's something wrong! Definitely something wrong!" The viewers began analyzing the situation.
"Once Officer Tan starts taking it seriously, you know things are getting real!"
"Right! My gut tells me there's an 80% chance that old man's license plate is problematic!"
"Be bolder—drop the 80%!"
Seeing the old man remain silent, Tan Ping prompted him again: "Name! Please cooperate!"
"Zhao Shizhe," the old man said reluctantly after a pause.
"Wait? 'Zhaoshizhe' (Perpetrator)? That's a wild name!" The viewers were in an uproar.
"Grandpa is still the legend! Even his name is so fitting!"
"Could he have misspoken? How could someone actually be named that?"
Seeming to notice the doubt in Tan Ping's eyes, the old man smiled slightly and explained, "Zhao from the Zhao-Qian-Sun-Li family name list! Shi from 'world,' and Zhe from 'philosophy'!"
"So it's that kind of Zhao Shizhe! I thought he meant perpetrator!" Lin Shigong muttered under his breath.
Unexpectedly, despite his age, the old man had sharp ears. Hearing the remark, he became unhappy: "Who are you cursing as a perpetrator?"
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Lin Shigong immediately apologized.
After registering the name, Tan Ping continued, "Age!"
