Outside the café, sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting mottled shadows on the ground. Qing’er stepped out trembling, clutching a pair of battered high heels, limping toward the sports car parked by the roadside. She glanced nervously around, ensuring no one was nearby before hobbling to the car, gently opening the door, and slipping inside.

Sitting behind the wheel, Wen Wan’er immediately turned her head, eyes full of eager anticipation. “How’s it going? Has he taken the bait?”

Qing’er smiled with satisfaction. “The fish has already bitten.”

She confidently patted her chest and exhaled deeply. “He must be desperate for money. I didn’t even have to twist his arm; he agreed right away.”

After saying this, she beamed as if envisioning the dawn of victory.

Wen Wan’er’s gaze dropped to Duoduo’s feet and noticed her left ankle was badly swollen. She pursed her lips. “Weren’t you just supposed to pretend to have twisted your ankle? How did it turn into a real injury? Your foot’s swollen like this, it must be hard to walk.” Her tone was tinged with reproach and concern.

Qing’er, however, wore an indifferent expression, still smiling, revealing a row of gleaming white teeth. “Of course it has to look convincing. What if he gets suspicious? This is our one shot—we must make sure it’s foolproof.”

Her eyes burned with determination and resolve, as if she were willing to pay any price.

Wen Wan’er’s expression softened with worry and tenderness.

She started the sports car, pressing the accelerator hard as the engine hummed. “Let’s get to the hospital right away. I’ll find the best doctor to treat you.”

The car sped along the road, the scenery outside flashing by like scenes from a movie.

Qing’er leaned back in her seat, eyes closed, savoring the rush of speed.

The sunset’s afterglow slowly faded at the horizon, and streetlights began to glow one by one.

A luxury sports car rolled slowly through the gates of the Wen family villa, the tires’ friction against the ground sounding unusually sharp in the still night.

Wen Wan’er carefully helped Duoduo out of the car.

Qing’er looked embarrassed, lowering her voice. “Miss, I’m just a servant. How could I let you support me like that?”

Wen Wan’er frowned slightly. “Don’t call yourself that anymore. From now on, we’ll call each other sisters.”

Walking inside the villa, the interior was pitch-black. Wen Wan’er fumbled for the switch, and the lights instantly illuminated the entire room. It was then they noticed someone sitting on the sofa.

Bathed in warm yellow light, his profile was sharp and cold as he sat with a piercing gaze fixed on the two who had just entered.

Startled by the sudden presence, Wen Wan’er let out a shriek. “Ah! How can you not turn on the lights at home? Trying to scare me to death? Has brother become so stingy now?” Her tone held a hint of displeasure.

Wen Yun’an remained expressionless, clad in a brown suit. Tall and upright, with a prominent nose and captivating eyes, he looked like a man stepped out of a comic book.

Yet his aura was as chilling as ice.

He cast a cold glance at Qing’er, leaning on a cane with her left foot in a cast. “What happened to her?”

Qing’er’s cheeks flushed red as she stammered, “I—I accidentally twisted my ankle.”

Wen Yun’an’s lips curled into a faint, ambiguous smile. “Twisted ankle? Are you two scheming some mischief together?” Suspicion shone in his eyes.

Wen Wan’er knitted her brows, then turned to Qing’er with a firm reminder, “You should go to your room and rest.”

With that, she sat heavily on the sofa, eyes fixed on Wen Yun’an, her voice laced with dissatisfaction. “In brother’s eyes, am I just a troublemaker who never behaves properly?”

Wen Yun’an snorted coldly. “Isn’t that true? Otherwise, why would I have you rush into hosting an art exhibition like this? And so hastily prepared?”

His gaze seemed to pierce through Wen Wan’er, filled with doubt and a weighty pressure.

Wen Wan’er was momentarily at a loss for words but didn’t want to explain too much now.

She took a deep breath. “Brother, please believe me. This exhibition is really important to me. And Duoduo’s ankle was truly twisted by accident, not as complicated as you think. Once this is over, you’ll understand.”

Duoduo’s eyes revealed steely resolve, her hand involuntarily clenching into a fist.

Wen Yun’an’s gaze remained skeptical as he warned, “You’d better not be up to anything bad. If I find out, I’ll tell Dad and Mom.”

“Brother, my dear brother, the most handsome brother in the world, your sister is fighting for justice this time. Nothing fishy will happen. We’re only borrowing your good name,” Wen Wan’er coquettishly linked her arm through Wen Yun’an’s.

“Alright, alright, you’re giving me goosebumps with all this. The servant said you haven’t come back all day and left you some food. Go eat it while it’s still warm.”

Wen Yun’an rose and headed upstairs.

Wen Wan’er looked out the window, a ripple stirring quietly in her heart.
