Late at night, the hospital corridor stretched out like a deep, dark tunnel. Dim lights cast mottled shadows against the walls, while the air was thick with an indescribable sense of chill and dread.

He Lingfeng walked in with a heavy expression, his pace hurried. The nurses on the night shift noticed him and cast concerned glances his way, greeting him warmly, "Mr. He, visiting Miss Yun so late?"

He Lingfeng managed a strained smile. "Yes, the wedding is almost here. I miss Qiuya deeply and wanted to see her."

Hearing this, the nurses’ faces lit up with emotion, and they looked at him with undisguised envy. "Even though Miss Yun is no different from a living corpse, she is truly fortunate to have a husband who loves her so much."

As they spoke, they gazed at He Lingfeng with pure adoration, as if he were the most perfect man in the world.

He Lingfeng offered no further response, merely nodding slightly before continuing toward the Intensive Care Unit. His solitary figure looked exceptionally lonely under the flickering lights.

Outside the ICU, He Lingfeng stood silently, observing Yun Qiuya through the glass window. Her face was as pale as paper, and her body was hooked up to a tangle of tubes. She lay motionless, with only the rhythmic jumping of numbers on the monitors proving she was still alive.

He Lingfeng stood outside, watching her quietly.

Just then, footsteps approached. The nurse who had been caring for Yun Qiuya noticed him and looked surprised. "Mr. He? Visiting Miss Yun this late?"

He Lingfeng nodded. "Wanru, you’re just in time. I missed Qiuya and came to see her. Would you mind opening the door for me?"

The nurse smiled, a flicker of emotion in her eyes. "Of course. Only someone who truly cares for Miss Yun would disregard the hour to visit her. How could I stand in the way of such devotion?"

She took out her access card and swiped it against the sensor, which glowed green. The door slid open slowly.

He Lingfeng nodded in gratitude and stepped inside.

The nurse left with a parting remark, "I won't disturb the two of you," before turning to leave and taking the elevator directly to the sixth floor.

In a room on the sixth floor, Wen Wan'er was playing with a young boy who looked to be about two years old. The little boy’s face was filled with an innocent, radiant smile.

Seeing Wanru enter, Wen Wan'er asked quickly, "How did it go? Did He Lingfeng suspect anything?"

Wanru smiled. "He really did suspect Yun Qiuya, but you can rest assured. I gave her a sedative half an hour ago; she won't give us away."

Wen Wan'er’s face relaxed into a relieved smile. "Excellent. That ensures everything is foolproof. As long as He Lingfeng believes that Yun Qiuya has lost consciousness, our plan is more than halfway to success."

Wanru reached out to take the child from Wen Wan'er’s arms, offering a warm smile.

"Maimai, come to Mommy."

"Alright, Wanru, you and Maimai get some rest. I’m heading home now. I’ll be back tomorrow morning; notify me immediately if anything happens!"

Wen Wan'er shook her numb arm and let out a yawn, her face showing signs of exhaustion.

"Don't worry, there won't be any mistakes. I'm close to Miss Yun, and once Maimai is asleep, I’ll go check on her," Wanru said, cradling Maimai and gently patting his back.

Wen Wan'er grabbed her bag, gave Maimai’s chubby hand a soft pat, and walked out with a cheerful smile.

No sooner had she left than Wanru noticed a thick stack of papers on the bedside table. She walked over and picked them up, revealing bundles of hundred-dollar bills tucked inside.

"Miss Wan'er, how can my child and I ever repay you for this..." she murmured to herself.
