Chapter 58 A Major Scoop
When Yun Jiannan returned, Shen Qing had already finished her speech. Her burning gaze locked onto him from the moment he entered the doorway until he reached his seat.
"You damned old thing! I poured my heart and soul into that speech just now. As a pillar of the Yun Corporation, why didn't you record that moment so I could use it to claim credit later?"
Yun Jiannan remained silent, simply sitting quietly in his chair.
Growing exasperated, Shen Qing snapped, "Are you deaf, or did you leave your ears at home? Can't you hear me talking to you?"
She grabbed Yun Jiannan by the ear and raised her voice.
"Ouch, ouch, it hurts!" Yun Jiannan growled in resistance.
"You stubborn old ghost, you've been absent-minded since early this morning. Let me see your phone. What are you trying to hide from me..."
Glancing around, Shen Qing noticed that the guests were all dining and no one was paying attention to her, so she leaned over, attempting to snatch Yun Jiannan's phone.
"Let me see it, let me see it!"
Yun Jiannan leaned away to the side, fury rising in his eyes. "What are you doing?"
Shen Qing froze, her eyes widening in surprise. "Well, well, Yun Jiannan, you've grown a backbone today. I've never seen you act so tough."
"My phone is my personal privacy. I won't let you see it," Yun Jiannan said through gritted teeth, every word distinct. Though his eyes still betrayed a hint of fear, he stood his ground without moving an inch.
Shen Qing let out a cold snort and glanced around at the guests once more. "Fine! Considering today is a day of great celebration, I won't bicker with you. Just wait until we get home, and you'll see how I deal with you."
Muttering resentfully, Shen Qing lowered her head and resumed eating.
Only then did Yun Jiannan cautiously sit back down.
After taking a few bites, Shen Qing remembered something. She picked up her phone and sent a message to He Lingfeng: "Don't worry, dear son-in-law. Today's banquet is a huge success. The guests are full of praise for you. I heard them just now—they were really singing your praises."
The corners of Shen Qing's mouth practically reached her ears as she hit send on the self-satisfied text.
He Lingfeng's reply came swiftly: "Thank you, Auntie! When I get back, I'll send you a huge red envelope!"
Seeing the reply, the smile on Shen Qing's face grew even more smug.
People around them began to stand up and walk toward the main table to offer toasts.
"Mr. Yun, Ms. Shen, the two of you have really had it rough. You've broken your hearts worrying over your niece. Rest assured, from now on, our fortunes are tied to the Yun Corporation. We share weal and woe. As long as we're around, we will definitely remain on good terms with the Yun Corporation."
Not recognizing the man standing before her, Shen Qing looked at Yun Jiannan, casting a silent plea for help his way.
"This is Director Lin, the founder of Lin's Jewelry," Yun Jiannan said calmly, his face still devoid of any expression, making him utterly inscrutable.
The speaker was Lin Ying, the head of Lin's Jewelry and the father of Lin Ou.
A seductive smile returned to Shen Qing's face as she looped her arm through Lin Ying's, completely disregarding Lin Ying's wife, who stood right beside him.
"Not at all, not at all! I've heard for a long time that Young Master Lin and our He Lingfeng are good brothers. With the sons succeeding their fathers, I'm sure that once things are handed over to their generation, they will manage the Lin and Yun families in perfect order."
Raising her red wine glass with an overflowing smile, Shen Qing drained her drink first.
"The Yun Corporation still needs the two of you to hold down the fort. Relying solely on the young folks is definitely not enough—no, absolutely not. With the two elders around, I feel so much more at ease. Mr. He visited our home before, and at first glance, he was clearly a dragon among men. For Lin Ou to have such a fine friend brings us parents true comfort, and I'm sure things will only reach greater heights in the future!"
"You're too kind, Mr. Lin. From now on, we're all brothers and sisters; we naturally have to help each other out!"
Just as they were conversing, Yun Jiannan stood up and walked toward the audio control room.
After a round of polite pleasantries, the guests returned to their respective seats.
With the cold dishes cleared away, hot dishes began to be served. The massive electronic screen also began playing the couple's wedding photos, along with sweet snapshots documenting their journey from meeting and knowing one another to being together.
Everyone stared fixedly at the electronic screen, admiring the handsome groom and beautiful bride displayed upon it.
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared on the screen, set against a completely unfamiliar background.
Everyone couldn't help but widen their eyes, all gazes instantly focused on the giant electronic screen.
Clearly, the dim lighting and crude surroundings indicated that this was undoubtedly a secretly filmed video.
Shen Qing's expression tightened. In her memory, she recalled no such segment. "Could this be a surprise prepared by He Lingfeng?" Brushing it aside, she joined the crowd in watching the screen.
Suddenly, the sharp sound of high heels echoed through the venue, and the figures of He Lingfeng and Quan Duoduo appeared in the video.
The setting in the video was unmistakably a hospital room. He Lingfeng gradually walked closer, his face growing clearer and clearer on the screen.
The guests involuntarily covered their mouths with their hands, too shocked to keep watching.
Shen Qing's realization dawned on her in a flash. As memories of Yun Jiannan's earlier odd behavior flickered through her mind, she immediately stood up. Recognizing that something was terribly wrong, she bolted toward the audio control room.
However, she failed to turn the handle. The door to the control room was locked from the inside, so no matter how frantically she twisted the knob, it refused to budge.
"Yun Jiannan! Is that you in there? Are you behind all of this today? What on earth are you doing? Have you lost your mind?"
"I was wondering why you've been so distracted since this morning! Are you trying to ruin my son-in-law? Before things reach a point of no return, shut that video off right now!"
Yet, no voice answered from within. On the screen above, the scenes grew increasingly offensive and sordid, accompanied by the explicit sounds of two people indulging in pleasure.
So blatant, so brazen—right there in a hospital ward.
Shen Qing's heart pounded violently, as if it might leap out of her chest the next second and shatter upon the floor.
Seated at their tables, the guests stared in horror at the filth unfolding on the video. Some slammed their tables in fury, while others violently hurled their wine glasses onto the tabletop.
Muttering curses under their breath, some guests grabbed their coats and bags and stormed out of the venue in disgust.
Panic instantly overwhelmed Shen Qing. Her legs turned weak, and she slumped against the door, muttering incoherently.
"Yun Jiannan, you lunatic! Have you lost your mind? If you want to go to hell, go by yourself! Why drag me down with you? You truly are crazy! We had a good life—how could you possibly do something like this?"
A continuous stream of curses poured from her lips, laced with a rising, tearful shriek, each cry louder than the last.
At that moment, she wished nothing more than to smash her way inside and choke the life out of the person in that room.
