Chapter 66 Bastard
"Son-in-law He, this truly is not my fault. Everything was going smoothly when, all of a sudden, those images appeared on the screen. I have no idea where those videos came from. This really wasn't due to me dropping the ball, and I have no clue why things turned out this way..."
After walking out of the police station, He Lingfeng strode ahead on his own and got into a black sedan. Shen Qing followed closely behind in her high heels, deeply anxious, and boarded the car as well. Once inside, she lost no time in offering her explanations.
"What? Didn't Yun Jiannan come with you?"
Settling into the car, He Lingfeng cast his gaze around.
"He—he naturally didn't..."
The smile on Shen Qing's face vanished instantly, and she stammered.
"That's strange. Normally the two of you always appear together. How is it that only you came today when such a major incident occurred? Why didn't he accompany you?"
"With such a big thing happening, and given how timid he is, he is naturally hiding at home, too afraid to show his face," Shen Qing explained.
"Aunt, are you still not going to tell me the truth at this point? Do you think you were the only one who notified me about what happened at the Yunmeng Space? Little do you know, others have already filled me in as well. This whole thing was done by Yun Jiannan, wasn't it!"
He Lingfeng turned his head to fix his gaze on Shen Qing's face, which instantly flushed a deep red, all the way down to her neck.
"Son-in-law He, there is a misunderstanding here, a huge misunderstanding. You know Yun Jiannan has been timid since birth; he must have been coerced by someone. Otherwise, how could he possibly do such a thing? It damages the Yun family's reputation, and it brings him a hundred harms with not a single benefit. Besides, you just promoted him, so how could he be that foolish..." Shen Qing continued to explain.
"He is indeed timid, and you have always been the one calling the shots in your household in Yanjing. But you must understand that people can undergo sudden changes; everyone has their own inner thoughts, and most importantly, his surname is Yun!"
He Lingfeng's voice was gloomy and deep. Inside the car, apart from the echo of his voice, only Shen Qing's hurried breathing and the sound of her nervously rubbing her hands together could be heard.
"What you said is right, he is indeed a member of the Yun family, but both of the Yun elders passed away three years ago. Furthermore, he has always looked at you like a close relative. If not for you, how could the Yun family have enjoyed such smooth sailing? Without your leadership, how could the Yun family have developed so well? Just by relying on Yun Qiuya? A woman like her doesn't have such great capability. Even though you share a different surname, you have been truly good to him, and truly good to all of us. Without you, where would we get the money for medical treatments, or the money for Xiao An to get a wife? Therefore, even though you are not our flesh and blood, you are closer to us than family."
As Shen Qing spoke, her voice choked up, her face filled with tear tracks as she raised her sleeve to wipe away the tears.
"I naturally understand everything you say, since you are a smart person. However, some people have genes carved deep into their bones. When things happen, there is no telling if they will still turn their elbows outward and forget all the kindness I've shown your family over the years!" He Lingfeng continued relentlessly.
"That's impossible, Son-in-law He. I swear on my life that he would never turn his elbows outward. How could he possibly betray you? Besides, this matter brings him not the slightest bit of advantage. I am with him every day, and I am fully aware of his every movement. I know everything he does every single day, right down to the time he spends going to the toilet or stepping outside for a cigarette. How could he possibly have the time to pull off something like that? It is absolute nonsense." Shen Qing raised her hand in a gesture of taking an oath.
The interior of the car suddenly fell silent. He Lingfeng said nothing, merely staring quietly at Shen Qing.
"Fine. Since you've sworn an oath, I'll trust you this time. In any case, if I find out who the mastermind behind this is, I will definitely take his dog life."
He Lingfeng let out a long sigh, and the boulder weighing on Shen Qing's heart finally lifted.
Shortly after, the car stopped outside the Yun family villa. After dropping off He Lingfeng, the driver took Shen Qing back to her own residence.
Shen Qing walked with hurried steps, her high heels clacking loudly in the dead of night.
Fumbling through her handbag for the keys, she unlocked the front door, pushing it open with a loud bang.
"Yun Jiannan, you scumbag, get your ass out here!"
Tossing her handbag onto the sofa, Shen Qing strode toward the bedroom, the door of which was tightly shut.
*Knock, knock, knock.*
The door was locked from the inside. Shen Qing pounded on it fiercely, but received no response from within.
"Yun Jiannan, you worthless dog, I know you're in there. Get out here right now! Do you know that He Lingfeng has been released? He said that if you were behind this, he would definitely cripple you! Why aren't you hurrying out to tell me what happened today and why you did such a thing? You truly are a fool."
Shen Qing's voice grew louder with every word, her heart-wrenching screams echoing endlessly through the dark apartment.
"I just swore right to his face that this absolutely had nothing to do with you! Even if you did it, we are husband and wife—you could have told me about anything so I could help you figure out a solution. If you refuse to talk to me, every single day from now on will be your day of reckoning! I won't protect you anymore, and when the disaster strikes us both as husband and wife, we'll just fly separate ways!"
Shen Qing continued to rant in a fury.
*Tick, tick, tick, tick.*
Only Shen Qing's echoes answered her in the room, accompanied solely by the ticking of the clock.
*Click.*
The door of the adjacent room suddenly opened.
A slightly plump boy walked out. "Mom, what are you doing? I just fell asleep."
Shen Qing immediately rushed to his side and pulled him into a tight embrace.
"Xiao An, why are you at home? Weren't you supposed to be at the hospital today? When did you get back? I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! It's Mom's fault—Mom thought you weren't home. Mom was just speaking too loudly."
The moment she laid eyes on Xiao An, Shen Qing's expression instantly overflowed with maternal love, her voice turning soft and gentle.
"Dad came back in the afternoon, but it seemed like he was in a bad mood. When I spoke to him, he didn't even acknowledge me, so I just cooked myself a bowl of instant noodles."
Xiao An pointed toward the half-eaten bowl of instant noodles sitting on the side cabinet, then pointed at the tightly shut bedroom door next to it.
