Yan Chu smiled faintly. “All right.”
Grandmother Gu sighed.
Yan Chu was such a wonderful girl. Why was Chenxiao so hopelessly dense? He insisted that he felt nothing for her except gratitude.
She would have to give them a little push and hurry up their matchmaking.
Tonight’s charity auction was the perfect opportunity!
Everyone attending the auction would either be rich or powerful, and they all belonged to the same business circle. If Chenxiao brought Xiao Chu there, it would be tantamount to announcing to their entire social circle that he was already married.
After that, no woman would dare set her sights on Chenxiao!

When Gu Chenxiao returned from the company, Grandmother Gu immediately assigned him a task.
“Chenxiao, you must take Yan Chu to the auction!”
Grandmother Gu was positively beaming. Gu Chenxiao could see through her intentions at a glance.
It would be good to take her along.
He had heard today that someone was spreading rumors that he and the Yan family had entered into a marriage alliance, and that he had married Yan Luoluo.
Taking Yan Chu with him would conveniently dispel the rumor. Besides, Yan Chu was the young mistress of the Gu family, so it was perfectly reasonable for her to accompany him to such an occasion.
“All right.” Gu Chenxiao nodded and was about to go to his room to rest.
Grandmother Gu stopped him at once. “Then go buy her an evening gown now! The last time you took Yan Chu out, you only bought her one dress; everything else was ours. That dress was pretty, but it isn’t suitable for attending a banquet! Hurry up and take Yan Chu shopping!”
A trace of weariness flashed through Gu Chenxiao’s eyes.
He had just come back from work, and now he had to go out again?
“Mother.” Yan Chu spoke gently, ever considerate. “I’d like to go out shopping by myself. I don’t want to trouble him.”
“Well…” Grandmother Gu glanced at Gu Chenxiao.
It was obvious that Yan Chu was only saying this because she did not want to burden him.
Yet Chenxiao simply went along with her. “Then I’ll have Old Zhang drive you.”
“All right.”
Yan Chu left the house, and Gu Chenxiao prepared to return to his room.
“Honestly…” Grandmother Gu cast him a helpless glance. “Only a girl as wonderful as Yan Chu could put up with you. The capital is such a big place, and she doesn’t know her way around. How could you let her go out alone? Aren’t you afraid your wife will get lost?”
Gu Chenxiao suddenly remembered how Yan Chu had been looked down upon by the salesclerk when she went out alone to the clothing store. He frowned slightly.
He had indeed overlooked how unfamiliar she was with the city.
Then he reconsidered. Yan Chu’s independence reassured him, but as her husband in name, he also had a responsibility to ensure her safety.

After all, looking down on Yan Chu was tantamount to looking down on Gu Chenxiao.
“Mother, I’ll take her,” Gu Chenxiao decided. His tone brooked no argument.
When Gu Chenxiao stepped outside the villa, he saw that Yan Chu had already driven away.
He had no choice but to find another car in the garage and drive after her.
*
“Young Madam, we’ve arrived.” Old Zhang stopped in front of the entrance to a shopping mall.
“Uncle Zhang, is this the same mall we went to last time?”
The place looked familiar to Yan Chu. She remembered that there had been a plaza outside the mall, with a little bear-shaped structure in its center.
Old Zhang laughed heartily. “That’s right, Young Madam. I brought you here on purpose!”
“This is one of the Gu family’s businesses. You can shop here for free, Young Madam—it’s an incredible bargain!”
Even so, Yan Chu knew exactly what he was up to.
He simply hoped that she would get even with the people who had bullied her at the mall last time.
But Yan Chu was not the sort of person to hold a grudge over every little thing, and she had no desire to cause trouble.
Still, she was already here and did not feel like making another trip. She decided to buy an evening gown and leave.
Yan Chu got out of the car. Old Zhang hurriedly called Gu Chenxiao.
“President Gu, I dropped Young Madam off at the mall we visited last time. No need to thank me, President Gu. They bullied Young Madam last time, so she’ll definitely get her revenge today!”
*
Yan Chu entered the mall and went into an evening-wear shop. The store next door happened to be the one where Wang Yan had worked before.
The moment Wang Yan saw Yan Chu, she remembered the humiliation of nearly being fired last time, and her face turned livid.
“You little slut!” Wang Yan shouted, causing everyone nearby to turn and stare at Yan Chu.
“You little slut, you actually dare come back?! What is this world coming to? Are mistresses all this shameless now?”
She noticed that Yan Chu was wearing the same dress she had bought from the store last time.
At the memory of that dress, Wang Yan recalled all the trouble it had caused her. Not only had the store manager reprimanded her, but she had also been forced to write a self-criticism.
“Who are you calling a slut?” Yan Chu asked, narrowing her eyes in displeasure.
“Obviously you! Gu Chenxiao already has a wife, yet you’re still trying to be his mistress! You shameless vixen!”
Yan Chu was utterly bewildered.
He already had a wife?
Wasn’t she Gu Chenxiao’s wife?
How could there possibly be someone else?
Leaving aside Gu Chenxiao’s aversion to women, she and Gu Chenxiao had a legal marriage certificate.

“Miss Wang, could there be some misunderstanding?” Yan Chu asked doubtfully.
“A misunderstanding?” Wang Yan’s attitude grew even more hostile. “I’ll call President Gu’s legitimate wife over right now!”
As it happened, Yan Luoluo was in the store.
The moment she saw Yan Chu, she froze.
How could there be such a beautiful girl in the world?
Her skin was so tender it looked as though water might seep from it. With her fair complexion and large eyes, she seemed to radiate an otherworldly liveliness from head to toe.
And this woman, according to what Wang Yan had said… was Brother Chenxiao’s mistress?!
Yan Luoluo was not unaware of the situation. She knew Wang Yan had made a mistake and mistaken her for Brother Chenxiao’s wife.
But so what?
At the very least, she had a marriage engagement with Brother Chenxiao. What did this woman have?!
A pretty face?
Yan Luoluo strode forward grandly, adopting the bearing of a true wife.
“Are you the one seducing Brother Chenxiao?”
Quite a crowd had gathered around them. Yan Chu smiled faintly, her expression calm, as though she was not afraid of the situation in the slightest.
“Seducing him?” Yan Chu gave a mocking laugh. “Gu Chenxiao and I have been engaged for a long time. Calling it ‘seduction’ seems inappropriate, doesn’t it?”
“You’re talking nonsense!” Yan Luoluo shouted. “Why don’t you find out what kind of family the Yan family of the capital is? We’re old family friends with the Gu family. Even if the Gu family were arranging a marriage, how could they possibly choose someone with no status or background like you?”
A large crowd had gathered around them, pointing and whispering about Yan Chu and Yan Luoluo.
Two women claiming to be the young mistress of the Gu family had appeared in the same shopping mall, leaving everyone utterly confused.
Yan Chu was unfamiliar to them and clearly did not belong to high society. Although she was beautiful, there were plenty of beautiful young women in the capital. Weren’t marriages among the wealthy always based on matching family status?
Amid the crowd’s whispers, Yan Chu declared firmly, “Why don’t we make a bet, Miss? If you are Gu Chenxiao’s wife, I will apologize to you in front of everyone.”
“But if you’re lying, you must apologize to me and say the words, ‘I am a mistress.’ Do you dare to bet?”
“I…” Yan Luoluo was at a loss for words.
She was not Brother Chenxiao’s wife at all. If she accepted the bet, wouldn’t she be certain to lose?
But with so many eyes fixed on her, if she refused to bet, wouldn’t that openly prove that her identity as the young mistress of the Gu family was fabricated?
