Chapter Thirteen: Cataclysm on the Horizon, Part Two

In the end, under Chu Hao’s arrangement, only five people remained: the male lead Jared, the female lead Elaine, Jared’s friend Terry, Terry’s wife Candice, and the chubby building manager uncle who joined the male and female leads in the final part of the movie’s plot. The rest were sent back by Chen Mo to avoid unnecessary trouble.

After driving around for a while, Chen Mo returned to the safe house and lay down to rest, only waking close to midnight.

Stretching lazily, Chen Mo lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

No one could have imagined that in just a few hours, the entire world order would undergo a profound transformation.

In the chat group, Lu Mingfei found the movie “Sky Catastrophe,” and Chen Mo asked him to share it there. He then rewatched it himself to avoid missing any details.

The plot of “Sky Catastrophe” roughly depicts an alien invasion of Earth. Besides some key events happening at specific times, the rest of the storyline was irrelevant—since the male and female leads and several supporting characters had been brought back, the events in the movie would naturally never come to pass.

In the film, the aliens arrive at midnight, which corresponds to the early morning of the third day after these reincarnators appeared in this world. Humans attempt to fight back, but conventional firepower proves ineffective against the aliens. The technological gap is immense, and humanity suffers continual defeats.

On the third day of the alien invasion—also the fifth day since the reincarnators’ arrival—humans launch nuclear missiles. It’s unclear whether other areas did the same, but in the movie, aircraft carry nuclear bombs to bomb the alien ships over Los Angeles.

However, even direct hits from nuclear bombs cause only temporary damage to the alien vessels, which quickly repair themselves, rendering the attacks futile.

At the movie’s end, the male and female leads are captured aboard an alien ship. The male lead’s brain is removed and implanted into an alien body, while the aliens are more interested in extracting the fetus from the female lead for study. Yet the male lead, now housed in the alien body, retains his self-awareness, controls the alien form, rescues the female lead, and engages in fierce combat with other invading aliens.

This is the plot of “Sky Catastrophe.”

However, Chu Hao and his companions in 2010 were unaware that in the future—in 2017 and 2020—“Sky Catastrophe 2” and “Sky Catastrophe 3” were released consecutively.

Though each sequel was worse than the last, they were still the official continuations.

Following the first film, the second installment centers on LAPD detective Mark and his son Trent. During the alien invasion, Trent is captured aboard a ship. To rescue his son, Mark ventures alone into the vessel.

There, he discovers the original leads from the first film: the male lead transformed into an alien hybrid, and the female lead whose fetus mutated rapidly due to exposure to blue light and is about to give birth. Although the fetus is successfully extracted, the female lead dies from excessive blood loss.

Subsequently, the alien hybrids discover the male lead’s anomaly. After a deadly battle, the ship crashes in the Golden Triangle. Mark, unable to rescue his son, forms an alliance with local tribes.

Through research, the tribes find that the mutated fetus, combined with the alien blue light emitter, can awaken the human consciousness within the alien bodies.

Using this discovery, humanity mounts a counterattack. After great hardships, they awaken all human consciousnesses trapped inside the aliens and, by the third part, use alien technology to storm the alien stronghold.

This is the continuation of the “Sky Catastrophe” saga. Chu Hao and his group did not know this, but Chen Mo was well informed.

Yet there was a problem: if the fetus mutated in the second film, why was there no such situation in the original timeline of “Infinite Dawn”?

In the movie, the leads were abducted into the alien ship and the fetus was born within five days of the invasion—seventh day since the reincarnators arrived.

But in the original story, the female lead showed no signs of impending birth, and their team included Ares, a doctor who surely would have noticed.

The only explanation was that the God Host had tampered with the story.

As humanity’s savior, the child born of the male and female leads, who could awaken human consciousness, was never born. Thus, even though Chen Mo knew the plot of “Sky Catastrophe 2,” it was of little use because the sequel’s storyline had been heavily altered.

Well, not entirely useless—Chen Mo, for instance, knew the whereabouts of Mark, the protagonist of the second film, who happened to be in the same police station where the newcomers from the Northern Ice Continent were based. He had already arranged for Mark and his son to be captured and hidden somewhere undetectable by cameras or humans.

Chu Hao and the others were unaware of this; it was Chen Mo’s personal side mission.

Still, it felt risky—after all, it involved the second film’s plot, and the God Host was likely to increase the difficulty. It would be safer for Chen Mo to guard the two himself, but then what about the first film’s leads? How could he explain his actions to his teammates?

Chen Mo neither wanted to give up the side mission nor bear the risks.

There was only one answer.

[Chen Mo: @everyone, all group members, come out!]

[Lu Mingfei: What's up, brother? Are the aliens attacking?]

[Chen Mo: Not yet, but soon. I’ve run into a bit of trouble. I need to protect two people but can’t do it personally. These two are likely to face danger. If I fail to protect them, the God Host will severely penalize me.]

[Chen Mo: So, does anyone have a solution?]

[Han Li: How about setting up a formation? From what I saw in the movie Lu posted, single aliens aren’t very strong. My formation could work well, at least to protect some people.]

[Emiya Shirou: But Han Li, your formation needs spiritual power to operate, right? And you need some knowledge to set it up. Those of us who know nothing about formations wouldn’t be able to manage it.]

[Han Li: …True. Then I’m afraid I can’t help.]

[Lu Mingfei: Kaguya, you know some barrier techniques, right? As the Moon Princess, surely you can help somewhat.]

[Ponglai Kaguya: How rude! But yes, I do know some barrier techniques. However, like Han Li, without sufficient spiritual or magical power, even if I store the barrier in a talisman card, Chen Mo wouldn’t be able to use it.]
