Chapter 118: Picking a Fight
Qin Miaoyu asked Sister Su Ning if she knew those two people.
Zheng Su Ning shook her head, “I don’t know them. They’re probably friends brought along by someone else.”
“Why doesn’t Miaoyu ask me?” Yan Chao chimed in.
Qin Miaoyu followed his cue, “Do you know them?”
“No, I don’t!”
Qin Miaoyu burst out laughing, “You don’t know them, yet you wanted me to ask you.”
“I just wanted to join your conversation with Sister Su Ning. But I can help you find out who they are.”
Qin Miaoyu was indeed quite curious about those two, so she said, “Then I’ll leave it to you.”
After Yan Chao went off to inquire, Zheng Su Ning asked, “Miaoyu, what do you think of him?”
Qin Miaoyu shook her head slightly, “He’s a nice boy, but he’s not my type.”
“What kind of person is your type?”
At that question, Qin Miaoyu inexplicably thought of Lu Qi’an. In terms of looks, Yan Chao wasn’t much different from Lu Qi’an. When she first met Lu Qi’an, he still had a hint of youthful innocence, but his demeanor wasn’t overly naive. As for personality, Yan Chao was too lively; someone with steadiness like Lu Qi’an was better. And then…
Qin Miaoyu suddenly realized that Lu Qi’an seemed to have an awfully high rating in her mind.
“Miaoyu, what are you thinking about?” Zheng Su Ning’s words brought Qin Miaoyu back. “Nothing really—just that I still don’t know what my type is.”
“Then just keep looking. The more you see, the more likely you’ll find someone you like.”
Qin Miaoyu wasn’t sure if seeing more would lead to someone she liked. As things stood, no one felt quite right. It wasn’t that the candidates vetted by her second brother and sister-in-law were lacking. From their earlier interactions, everyone seemed upright and well-spoken. But none sparked any special feeling in Qin Miaoyu. Unlike that first meeting…
Realizing she was again thinking of someone, Qin Miaoyu shook her head, as if to banish that person from her mind.
Zheng Su Ning went to the restroom, leaving Qin Miaoyu sitting alone on the bench. Before Yan Chao had returned with information, the two people approached her.
One of them—a woman—said, “Want a game?”
Qin Miaoyu politely declined, “Sorry, I don’t play golf. You can find someone else.”
“Tsk, you don’t play golf but you come to Jingxin Club? Are you here to show off, or to fish for rich men?”
Hearing the man’s contemptuous words, Qin Miaoyu’s brows furrowed.
“Can you bark like a dog?”
The man snapped, “What the hell did you just say?”
Qin Miaoyu looked at him calmly, “Seems you can’t bark. Why don’t you learn? Or is it that you know you’re not even as good as a dog?”
“Miaoyu, why are you so sharp-tongued?” the woman interjected.
“But isn’t this mouth, even worse than a dog’s, sharper?” Qin Miaoyu replied, still observing the pair, unable to recall them from her memory.
The man grew angrier at her words, entirely lacking any gentlemanly composure and tried to move as if to strike, but his arm was instantly seized.
“I must say, a grown man relying on his strength to bully a woman—how can you possibly justify that?”
The man’s hand hurt under Yan Chao’s grip. “Ow, ow, Yan Chao, let go…”
Yan Chao didn’t release him at once. “Will you dare try that again?”
“No, I won’t! I won’t!”
As soon as the man finished, Yan Chao abruptly let go. The man, unsteady, staggered back several steps and nearly fell.
The woman threw Qin Miaoyu a furious look and hurried after her companion.
Yan Chao asked with concern, “Miaoyu, are you alright? He didn’t do anything, did he?”
“No, don’t worry,” Qin Miaoyu said. She was aware that her second brother and his friends were only a few meters away; if anything happened, someone would come to her aid immediately, which allowed her to respond so unreservedly.
“That’s good. That man really has no manners!”
“Mm. Did you find out who they are?”
Yan Chao nodded, “I found out and was coming to tell you. The man is from the Su family—the same Su family that Liang Sixuan married into, Su Yikun’s family. The woman is an illegitimate daughter from the Qi family. The two are a couple.”
“Su family and Qi family?”
“Yes!”
How could these two, who had no significant connection to her, have such an attitude?
“Maybe it’s because I didn’t agree to help Liang Sixuan with the Su family, and now the Su family holds a grudge against me, but doesn’t dare trouble me directly, so they vent their anger on you,” said Liang Siyuan as he approached.
He had noticed something unusual earlier, but since Yan Chao got there in time, he hadn’t rushed over. As he came closer, he overheard Qin Miaoyu and Yan Chao’s final exchange.
Qin Miaoyu felt speechless. Some people always pick the easy target.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle this. They won’t dare trouble you again!” Liang Siyuan assured.
Qin Miaoyu nodded.
“Where’s your sister-in-law?”
“Sister Su Ning went to the restroom. She should be back soon.”
Just as Qin Miaoyu finished speaking, Zheng Su Ning appeared at the doorway not far off.
Liang Siyuan walked over, and saw that a few steps away stood another person.
“What brings you here?” Liang Siyuan’s words puzzled Zheng Su Ning. “Who’s here?”
“Second Brother, long time no see!”
Upon hearing the voice, Zheng Su Ning turned and saw Lu Qi’an, whom she’d only met a few times.
Seeing Zheng Su Ning, Lu Qi’an quickly greeted her, “Second Sister-in-law.”
Liang Siyuan scoffed, “We’re not relatives. Why call us Second Brother and Second Sister-in-law?”
Lu Qi’an was unfazed by Liang Siyuan’s remark, lifting the items in his hands and offering them.
“Second Brother, Second Sister-in-law, these are congratulatory gifts. I heard from Miaoyu that Second Sister-in-law is expecting a baby. I originally wanted Miaoyu to bring them over, but she changed her plans last minute, so I came myself.”
Liang Siyuan was slightly shocked. Was his little sister in contact with Lu Qi’an again? But then he relaxed; since she didn’t coordinate her change of plans with him, their relationship must just be friendly.
Liang Siyuan calmly took the gifts from Lu Qi’an. “Thank you, Mr. Lu, for going to the trouble. If you’re busy, feel free to go ahead.”
“Second Brother, I’m not busy. I’ve been working overtime lately and could use a break. Is it alright if I join you?”
One of Liang Siyuan’s reasons for organizing this gathering today was to introduce a potential match for his little sister; he hadn’t wanted Lu Qi’an to interfere. But remembering the pleasant atmosphere between Miaoyu and Yan Chao earlier, he changed his mind.
“Alright, since you’re free, join us. The more the merrier.”
