For several days now, this matter had not caused much of a stir, so it seemed Qin Shengyi must have offered Su Yaqing enough benefits.

With this in mind, Qin Miaoyu decided to visit the Qin family the very next day to see what was really happening there.

She was genuinely curious about the mistress and the illegitimate child. After all, even when she had her suspicions, she hadn’t noticed anything amiss—how had they suddenly appeared out of nowhere?

The next morning, Lu Qi’an came to pick up Qin Miaoyu for their trip to the Qin family home.

Once inside the car, Lu Qi’an asked, “Are you sure you want to go?”

He was worried that Qin Miaoyu might still have feelings for the Qin family and would be unable to accept the fact that Qin Shengyi had a child out of wedlock.

“Yes, I want to see exactly who these people are.”

The moment the doorbell rang, Su Yaqing, visibly annoyed, ordered someone to open the door.

When she saw that it was Qin Miaoyu and Lu Qi’an, her expression did not improve in the slightest.

“What brings you here?”

Qin Miaoyu settled herself comfortably on the sofa and invited Lu Qi’an to sit down as well.

“I lived here for so many years, after all. I thought I’d come back to visit you.”

Su Yaqing clearly didn’t believe her, but when she caught sight of the boy descending the stairs, her irritation deepened and she no longer cared to figure out what Qin Miaoyu’s real motive for returning was.

Following Su Yaqing’s gaze, Qin Miaoyu also spotted the boy.

She recognized him—he was the son of Xu Xinrong, who lived not far away. She’d run into him once before, when she had brought Lu Qi’an to the Qin family home for dinner.

“Is he here for a visit?” she asked.

A visitor, yet he’d made himself at home upstairs…

A mocking sneer played across Su Yaqing’s face. “He’s not here for a visit—he’s here to claim the Qin family for himself!”

Qin Miaoyu was momentarily stunned. “Claim the Qin family?”

“Oh, I forgot to introduce you. This is your younger brother, Qin Yuqi.”

Qin Miaoyu wondered if she had misheard; how could she possibly hear such a thing?

Wasn’t Xu Xinrong the mistress of some wealthy businessman in Liang City? Hadn’t she been sent here after the original wife discovered her and her newborn, and hadn’t she been here for more than ten years already?

“Surprised, aren’t you? Your father really is something else. He took the saying ‘the safest place is often the most dangerous’ to heart. Xu Xinrong has lived right next to us for over a decade, and we never suspected a thing!”

Looking back, Qin Miaoyu realized that there had always been clues, small details she hadn’t thought much about at the time. She had always known that Qin Shengyi favored sons over daughters and dreamed of having a son. Yet, after all these years, she had never noticed any sign of infidelity or an illegitimate child, and had even thought Qin Shengyi was a decent husband and father.

It was because of this that, when she saw him occasionally playing with or hugging Qin Yuqi, she simply assumed he was being especially kind to another family’s boy, because he longed for a son of his own.

But as it turned out, that boy was his own flesh and blood!

No wonder Qin Lianzhu had once said everything was just an illusion.

She asked, “How did you find out?”

Su Yaqing replied, “Ever since the Qin family started to prosper with the Liang family’s help, your father grew increasingly arrogant. He became so pleased with himself that he stopped bothering to hide certain things. That's when I caught him being intimate with Xu Xinrong!”

The memory of that day filled Su Yaqing with rage. While she had sometimes complained that Qin Shengyi wasn’t a great husband, she had consoled herself that, aside from obsessing over the family’s growth, he had never been caught with any romantic indiscretions, so she had considered herself lucky.

So, when she saw him with Xu Xinrong, she had immediately stormed over and slapped Xu Xinrong across the face!

But to her shock, Qin Shengyi had protected Xu Xinrong, and Xu Xinrong had hidden behind him, full of provocation.

In her fury, Su Yaqing had brought up Xu Xinrong’s son, sarcastically asking if, since Qin Shengyi had no son, he wanted to raise someone else’s.

But Xu Xinrong, far from afraid, revealed a secret that nearly made Su Yaqing faint.

The boy everyone believed to be the illegitimate son of a Liang City tycoon—Qin Yuqi—was actually Qin Shengyi’s son!

It was then that she learned the child Xu Xinrong called “Bao’er” was in fact named Qin Yuqi.

Xu Xinrong had hidden her intentions so well that they had failed to notice the truth that had been right under their noses for so many years.

“You’re just going to let this go?” Qin Miaoyu asked.

Given the depth of Su Yaqing’s betrayal, Qin Miaoyu would have expected her to make a huge scene, yet here she sat, seething as she watched the boy descend the stairs.

“What else can I do?” Su Yaqing said. “Your father said that if I can accept Xu Xinrong and Qin Yuqi, then his shares in the company will be divided equally among the three children. He’s already transferred the jewelry, properties, and everything he promised me to my name.”

“And what about Qin Lianzhu? I saw her shopping happily at the mall yesterday, even posting about it online.”

Su Yaqing gritted her teeth. “That girl! Is that really how she wants to spend her money?”

In truth, what angered Su Yaqing was not just that Qin Lianzhu was out shopping, but that she had so quickly accepted the situation in exchange for a few promises from her father.

She should have been standing with her mother in solidarity!

Now that Qin Miaoyu understood the whole story, she saw no reason to stay.

She rose to leave and, as she passed Qin Yuqi, she had no intention of greeting him as a brother.

Qin Yuqi, for reasons unknown, was not as impolite this time as he had been the last time she and Lu Qi’an had left the Qin family home.

Once outside, Qin Miaoyu’s gaze was drawn, almost involuntarily, to the villa where Xu Xinrong lived.

The villas here were expensive, and Xu Xinrong’s was among the best in both location and amenities—Qin Shengyi was certainly generous.

She withdrew her gaze and got into the car with Lu Qi’an, preparing to leave.

They hadn’t gone far when a figure appeared ahead—it was Xu Xinrong.

Perhaps, now that her son’s true identity had finally been revealed, Xu Xinrong exuded an air of triumph.

She recognized them and, as the car approached, waved.

Qin Miaoyu asked Lu Qi’an to pull over and rolled down the window to study Xu Xinrong.

Her whole appearance and demeanor were completely different now, Qin Miaoyu thought.

“Miss Liang, are you here to visit your foster parents?” Xu Xinrong asked.

Suddenly, Qin Miaoyu remembered something.

The last time she and Liang Sixuan had come to the Qin family home, Xu Xinrong had addressed her as “Miss Liang” when she left alone.

At the time, Qin Miaoyu had wondered how Xu Xinrong could have known, given how reclusive she was and how little she interacted with others. She’d even thought maybe Su Yaqing had told her, since the two women were slightly more acquainted.

Now, it was obvious—it must have been Qin Shengyi who told her.
