Chapter 126: Louis
After the flower delivery guy took the flowers away, Qin Miaoyu didn’t give the matter much thought.
Liang Siyuan and Zheng Suning had initially remained unaware of it. They only learned the details later when the family housekeeper mentioned that someone had sent flowers.
Zheng Suning scanned the living room and dining area, noting the absence of any blooms. With a playful smile, she remarked, “How curious. If the flowers from Lu Qi’an are so precious, why can’t we even see them?”
Qin Miaoyu offered a helpless shrug. “It wasn’t Lu Qi’an who sent them. I don’t know who did, and the delivery man said the sender left no name. Since it didn’t appear to be from any friend of mine, I had him discard the bouquet.”
Liang Siyuan’s expression turned grave the moment he heard about an anonymous sender. The investigation into Louis from E Group flashed through his mind. Beyond the fact that he favored women of Qin Miaoyu’s gentle type, this man harbored a far darker secret—he enjoyed cruelty.
If these flowers had come from Louis, it was possible that the man had already fixed his gaze on Qin Miaoyu.
For Qin Miaoyu, the revelation was deeply unsettling. Liang Siyuan chose not to burden her with the full truth, instead urging her to remain vigilant. Should the Liang family ask her to return home, she was to refuse them without hesitation.
Qin Miaoyu’s sharp eyes met his. “Second Brother, have you uncovered something?”
“I’ve tasked someone with investigating Louis. The details are still unclear. Stay alert for now—avoid meeting other Liang family members alone. Once I learn more, I’ll inform you.”
Qin Miaoyu nodded in agreement. She had never intended to frequent the Liang residence; her single visit had been out of mere curiosity. Moreover, she would soon leave Nancheng, so there was no need to visit their home repeatedly.
Though she trusted Liang Siyuan’s words, Zheng Suning sensed that he was concealing something far more serious.
Back in the master bedroom, she pressed him gently. “What else are you keeping from me?”
Liang Siyuan’s face carried a weary tension. “The Liang family seems intent on using Miaoyu to gain leverage with Louis of E Group, in exchange for investment.”
“What else?” Zheng asked, her tone edged with disbelief. Liang’s expression made it clear this was no simple matter.
Once Liang revealed the fuller picture, Zheng found herself wanting to curse.
Among the Liang elders, save for Liang Siyuan, none appeared trustworthy. They had neglected to raise Miaoyu properly and now sought to exploit her for their own gain.
She wondered whether Miaoyu had incurred some grave wrong in a past life, to suffer such parents once more.
She asked, “Have you any plan in mind?”
Liang Siyuan shook his head slightly. “Not yet. We lack clarity on their exact intentions, and the information I can obtain on Louis is limited. Deeper details may take time.”
Zheng Suning realized the situation had grown far more complicated than expected. “Shall I ask Xiang Meng’s people to investigate as well?”
“It won’t help. We lack presence abroad, so much deeper information remains inaccessible. Unless we locate someone with strong local connections overseas.”
Liang Siyuan’s frustration was evident. Had the matter not carried such urgency, he could have taken his time. Yet the flowers might arrive at any moment, and they needed to uncover Louis’s actions before unforeseen consequences unfolded.
Unfortunately, few people in his immediate circle possessed the necessary influence abroad.
Watching his troubled expression, Zheng Suning placed a comforting hand on his arm.
“What is it?” Liang Siyuan caught her wrist firmly.
Zheng Suning shifted slightly but did not pull away.
“Have you forgotten someone?”
“Who?”
Zheng eyed him with mock exasperation. “Lu Qi’an, of course. He studied abroad there, and the Lu family maintains substantial business interests on that side. Lu Qi’an returned after excelling in several projects there. If you can’t uncover Louis’s background easily, why not ask him to try?”
“Ask Lu Qi’an?” Liang considered the suggestion. The idea proved the most viable option.
“Then that’s settled. I’ll contact him.”
Liang Siyuan stepped onto the balcony to make the call.
Zheng Suning emerged from the master bedroom and leaned on the second-floor railing, gazing down at Qin Miaoyu. The girl was engrossed in a comical video, her laughter light and unrestrained.
The thought of the Liang family’s potentially sinister plans drew a quiet sigh from Zheng Suning.
People truly were different.
Though her own parents had passed away years ago in a car accident, they had ensured her future with careful forethought before their final breaths.
The years that followed confirmed how thoughtfully they had prepared for her.
Even now, years after their departure, she could still feel the love they had left behind.
Qin Miaoyu’s situation stood in stark contrast. Her adoptive family had struggled financially, and her biological parents appeared no kinder.
Zheng Suning watched for a moment longer, then opened her contacts. Recalling friends she had known during her overseas studies, she reached out to several, hoping to gather more information on Louis quickly.
Lu Qi’an had never expected a call from Liang Siyuan. The first words out of his friend’s mouth were, “Do you know Louis of E Group?”
Lu had no idea why Liang would ask, yet he recognized the name. The man was precisely the sort of figure Lu found utterly intolerable.
Frowning, he answered the questions, then inquired, “Why the sudden interest?”
A brief pause followed. Liang Siyuan relayed the details of his suspicions.
Liang was candid about his own limitations: he could not confront E Group directly, nor did he possess any connections within it. Even seeking intermediaries seemed futile.
Given Lu’s familiarity with Louis, Liang asked him to handle the matter. After all, he was practically family; Lu owed him some effort.
Lu nearly dropped the phone in disbelief, repeating the question in stunned disbelief.
Once he confirmed the truth, his face darkened beyond what mere words could describe.
He had assumed the Liang family merely lacked affection for Miaoyu, and since she showed little regard for them, he had not taken it seriously.
But now, stripped of any blood ties or genuine emotion, they sought to barter her for profit!
A surge of fury ignited in his chest.
After gathering more specifics from Liang, Lu hung up.
He immediately summoned his assistant Gu Feng and instructed him to contact overseas contacts, inquiring when Louis would arrive in China.
