Chapter 137: Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Qin Miaoyu suddenly realized.

Liang Sixuan naturally overheard Lu Qian’s words and felt a surge of anger. She had always treated Wei Wei like an elder sister-in-law, and the two had no real conflicts. Yet now, Wei Wei had first gotten Su Yikun arrested and was trying to use her as a scapegoat! How utterly despicable!

Previously, when Jiang Anqi had a similar incident, she hadn’t suffered serious harm and was only detained for a few days before release. Thankfully, Jiang Anqi injured his leg shortly after returning to Nancheng and never fully recovered—some poetic justice, at least.

“Of course not. Su Yikun committed quite a few offenses; your second brother and Qian have uncovered plenty.”

Uncovering the truth was shocking—Su Yikun’s actions were enough to land him in jail.

That afternoon, Qin Miaoyu and Lu Qian went together to the airport.

Qin Miaoyu’s holiday was almost over, and with nothing pressing in Nancheng, she was ready to leave.

Lu Qian, however, was uneasy about letting her travel alone. Perhaps still shaken by yesterday’s events, he insisted on flying back to Jingcheng with her.

Once he confirmed there was nothing more to settle in Nancheng, Qin Miaoyu agreed to accompany him.

Thus, that afternoon, those who came to the Dongshan villa to find Qin Miaoyu left empty-handed, including Ji Xuan, who had rushed back in haste.

Ji Xuan had learned about Qin Miaoyu’s trouble through Gu Xunan by chance. Recently busy with news work in a neighboring city, she hadn’t been informed directly by Qin Miaoyu about the incident.

But Gu Xunan, having caught wind of rumors, mentioned it during a call with Ji Xuan, who grew worried and hurried back.

Seeing Gu Jing so happy, Qin Miaoyu felt glad for her.

Qin Miaoyu feigned a sigh, “I didn’t expect to hear about work so soon after the holiday began! It’s exhausting!”

They all burst into laughter.

Lu Qian, carrying luggage behind her, watched Qin Miaoyu’s joyful expression and couldn’t help smiling himself.

With her second brother handling matters in Nancheng, Qin Miaoyu threw herself wholeheartedly into work.

As she joked, she was busy the moment she returned.

Most guests at Miss Jin’s wedding were wealthy or influential, with high demands. The first project was no less challenging, keeping Qin Miaoyu and the team occupied for quite a while.

Meanwhile, the Liang family was also busy.

So the Liang family had to find other investors.

Wei Wei regretted her actions, never expecting such consequences.

Yet her predominant feeling was anger, especially when reproached by Lady Liang.

“Blame your own daughter! She’s the Liang family’s child yet estranged from us, hiding her husband’s identity. If only we’d had help from the Lu family earlier, Liang Corporation wouldn’t have fallen so far!”

Xi Ruofen said nothing, but inwardly agreed with Wei Wei. If the Lu family had extended a hand, the Liang family’s predicament would have been much easier to resolve.

Yet until recently, they hadn’t known Lu Qian’s true identity.

Had they known, they would have urged Qin Miaoyu to bring Lu Qian to more family dinners, meet more often—perhaps then the truth would have been uncovered, and the Liang family wouldn’t be so passive now.

Moreover, with Su Yikun’s incident, their previous plans were derailed. The Liang family’s situation grew even more precarious.

They had to devise a solution—if not to restore the family to its former glory, at least to stabilize their current position.
