Qin Miaoyu was somewhat bewildered by the unexpected visitor. What could Old Master Lu want with her?

Though unsure of his intentions, she still invited him inside.

She went to the kitchen and brought a glass of water for Old Master Lu, then asked directly, “Is there something specific you came here for?”

Old Master Lu placed the water on the coffee table but didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he glanced around the room before studying Qin Miaoyu for a moment.

Finally, he said, “I didn’t expect you to still be a child of the Liang family from South City!”

Qin Miaoyu raised an eyebrow. “Is there something wrong with being a member of the Liang family?”

“I’ve heard that the Liang Corporation has been facing serious troubles lately. Without sufficient investment, they might collapse entirely. What’s your take on this?” Old Master Lu’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Qin Miaoyu replied indifferently, “I don’t have much of an opinion. If things can’t be helped, then that’s just how it is for the Liang Corporation. I don’t have the capability to turn things around or to provide enough funds to keep it afloat.”

Old Master Lu chuckled softly. “You may not have the means, but the Liang family could lend you the resources to secure that investment.”

Surprised, Qin Miaoyu wondered if Old Master Lu knew about the dealings the Liang family had undertaken.

However, the next words from Old Master Lu clarified his meaning.

“Members of the Liang family approached me, asking that, since you are now part of the Lu family through marriage, you might help broker a deal for the Liang Corporation—ideally, even offer direct assistance...”

Qin Miaoyu’s face flushed deeply. She hadn’t expected the Liang family to approach Old Master Lu directly.

Yet, Old Master Lu’s tone was blunt, his gaze sharp, as if implying that she had orchestrated the Liang family’s actions herself.

“Old Master Lu, you don’t need to get involved. No matter what favor they ask of you, please ignore them. It’s precisely because Lu Qian doesn’t help them that they are bothering you instead.”

Old Master Lu took a small sip of water.

“I’ve heard that your relationship with the Liang family isn’t great—they only recently acknowledged you and you haven’t spent much time with them. Still, given the Liang family’s current predicament, even if you make it clear that the Lu family won’t assist, they might resort to other means to force the Lu family’s hand. That would be a significant problem for Qian. Do you understand?”

Qin Miaoyu lowered her head, feeling somewhat embarrassed—not because Old Master Lu’s words suggested trouble for Lu Qian.

In a flash, she seemed to be transported back to the days before her engagement to Jiang Anqi was broken off, recalling the disdainful tone of Jiang’s mother.

But Old Master Lu was no ordinary man. Having managed the Lu family for so long, his words were more subtle, yet the meaning was clear: to my grandson, you are a serious nuisance!

Qin Miaoyu wanted to protest. Given the Liang family’s situation, they couldn’t possibly threaten Lu Qian. Yet she felt that arguing was pointless.

First, the Liang family had indeed approached Old Master Lu. Second, there was no reason to dwell on this matter.

Truly, marrying into a wealthy family came with countless complications and troubles.

A vague sense of irritation stirred in her heart.

She didn’t want to beat around the bush any longer.

“Old Master Lu, I understand your point. I’ll find time with Lu Qian to go to the civil affairs bureau to get our divorce certificate. You don’t need to worry about the Liang family causing trouble for him.”

For a moment, Old Master Lu thought he had misheard.

Though that was indeed his intention, hearing the disdain in Qin Miaoyu’s tone toward Lu Qian displeased him greatly.

How could anyone treat such a fine grandson with such indifference?

Qin Miaoyu was unaware of Old Master Lu’s thoughts and preferred not to know. She gently but firmly saw him out and closed the door behind him.

Meanwhile, in his office, Lu Qian sat distractedly staring at his phone.

Since returning from South City, his relationship with Qin Miaoyu had grown closer. When he sent messages, she would usually reply, and they’d chat for a while.

But today, hours had passed without a single response.

Yesterday, she had mentioned that she could finally rest today.

Thinking this, he sent another message, but after a long wait, still no reply.

He couldn’t help but scroll through their previous conversations, trying to find if he had said something to upset her.

Yet nothing seemed amiss.

The next day, he sent another message but again received no response.

Restless, he decided to visit Qin Miaoyu’s studio during his free time.

He wanted to see her, but Xu Xiaoqi came out to tell him that Qin Miaoyu was very busy lately and couldn’t entertain visitors, urging him to return to the company and not waste time.

“Is Miaoyu upset?” Lu Qian asked.

Xu Xiaoqi glanced at him and replied, “Yes. Since yesterday, Miaoyu’s been in a bad mood. She was supposed to rest, but in the afternoon she came to the studio to work.”

So something must have happened yesterday morning, Lu Qian thought.

“Do you know why Miaoyu is upset?” he asked again.

Xu Xiaoqi nodded, then shook her head. “I only know she met someone who upset her, but I don’t know who it was. She hasn’t told us.”

Having gained some information from Xu Xiaoqi, Lu Qian still didn’t leave. He planned to wait until Qin Miaoyu finished work.

Since she was upset and ignoring him, he wondered if the problem lay with him and felt he needed to find out.

When quitting time came, Lu Qian saw the cold expression on Qin Miaoyu’s face when she noticed him, along with her distant attitude.

He immediately understood that her displeasure was definitely related to him.

He followed her at a leisurely pace.

“Miaoyu, I drove here. Let me give you a ride home?”

Qin Miaoyu’s voice was cool. “No need. I’ll take Yixue’s car later.”

She assumed Pei Yixue hadn’t left yet and that since they were headed in the same direction, she could catch a ride.

But Lu Qian, who had been waiting downstairs, knew better.

“I saw her drive off five minutes ago.”

Qin Miaoyu hadn’t expected Pei Yixue to have left, but she only frowned slightly and said, “I can take a taxi home.”

Lu Qian replied, “It’s rush hour now. You might not get a taxi quickly. And if there’s traffic, who knows how long it will take.”

Qin Miaoyu shot him an annoyed glance but said nothing more, striding toward the subway station.

Lu Qian followed her as they walked.

Growing impatient, Qin Miaoyu turned back. “Lu Qian, can you stop following me like this? We don’t live in the same direction, do we?”
