Chapter 169: Seeing Someone Off

Lu Qi’an was dressed just like Uncle Hu. Apart from the one thing that could not be disguised—his height—even his build had been altered. He looked entirely different, though with closer attention, one could still sense the distinctive air that set him apart from everyone else.
“Why are you dressed like that today?” Qin Miaoyu asked curiously.
“I was worried that the person from yesterday might also be working for Mrs. Gao. If they discover that we haven’t really fallen out, they might come after you again.”
Qin Miaoyu immediately felt uneasy as well. After all, neither of them knew what Mrs. Gao was plotting.
Seeing the troubled look on her face, Lu Qi’an took out the breakfast he had bought.
“Yesterday, the little dessert you gave me had to be thrown into the trash because of that person following us. Consider this breakfast my apology.”
Qin Miaoyu looked at the box before her.
The name printed on it belonged to one of Jingcheng’s most renowned dim sum restaurants.
And the restaurant was quite far from here.
Qin Miaoyu did not expose him. She simply took the breakfast out of the box.
There seemed to be rather a lot for one person, so she asked, “You haven’t had breakfast either?”
Lu Qi’an nodded. He had gotten up early to buy breakfast and then hurried over here, leaving him no time to eat.
Qin Miaoyu took out a soup dumpling, ate one herself, then picked up another and held it out to Lu Qi’an.
A smile spread through Lu Qi’an’s eyes as he opened his mouth and ate the dumpling.
Inside the small car, the only sound was the faint chewing of food. Yet the atmosphere was not awkward in the slightest. Instead, it carried a strangely warm intimacy.
The car stopped beneath the studio. Lu Qi’an merely said goodbye to Qin Miaoyu from inside and did not escort her into the studio. His height could not be disguised, after all, and if someone was still following them, they might recognize him and cause trouble.
Just as Qin Miaoyu got out, she happened to run into Xu Xiaoqi.
Seeing the car, Xu Xiaoqi immediately grew tense. “Is someone following you again?”
Qin Miaoyu moved closer and lowered her voice. “Yesterday, Lu Qi’an discovered that someone was following him. He was worried there might still be someone following me, so he drove me here.”
Xu Xiaoqi stared in astonishment. “You mean the driver in the car just now was Lu Qi’an?”
Qin Miaoyu nodded.
“He made a pretty convincing disguise!” Xu Xiaoqi had not noticed at all that the person inside was Lu Qi’an.
Qin Miaoyu agreed. She herself had been startled when she first saw Lu Qi’an that morning.

“His height couldn’t be changed, so he didn’t get out of the car.”
Xu Xiaoqi suddenly clicked her tongue and asked in a conspiratorial whisper, “What exactly is going on between you two?”
Qin Miaoyu was puzzled. “What do you mean?”
“I mean you and Lu Qi’an! Weren’t you divorced? The two of you don’t look divorced to me at all!”
Qin Miaoyu smiled. “It’s not as though we had a terrible falling-out before the divorce. Isn’t this perfectly normal?”
Xu Xiaoqi muttered, “What’s normal about it?”
The two of them clearly were not without feelings for each other, and yet they had still reached the point of divorce.
But after divorcing, they seemed even more at ease with each other than before—especially Miaoyu!
Not long after the two of them arrived at the office, Pei Yixue also came to the studio.
The three of them gathered in the office to discuss the studio’s assignments. Once they had finished, Pei Yixue suddenly said, “Guess who I saw last night?”
“Who?”
“That Julia woman! The moment I saw her, I remembered what happened when she came to our studio. It completely ruined my mood and I couldn’t enjoy myself at all!”
Qin Miaoyu comforted her. “Forget about it. Getting angry is bad for your health.”
Pei Yixue put her hands on her hips. “I was planning to pretend I hadn’t seen her, but Julia must have recognized me. She whispered something to the smoky-eyed woman beside her, and then the two of them kept glancing at me and whispering together. Tell me, how could that not be infuriating?”
Xu Xiaoqi patted her shoulder. “All right, all right. You’re never going to have anything to do with them again, so don’t waste your energy on it. Instead of dwelling on that, you should pay more attention to Miaoyu. Someone may have been following her again!”
“What?”
Pei Yixue immediately forgot about the previous night and began asking about Qin Miaoyu’s situation.
She was not surprised at all when she learned that Mrs. Gao might be behind it.
“That Mrs. Gao used tricks herself to marry into the Gao family back then. Gao Qingqing probably learned her mother’s old methods, only she wasn’t successful.”
“But what’s going on with you and Lu Qi’an? How did you two end up tangled together again? It feels as though the divorce certificate was torn up for nothing.”
Pei Yixue had assumed that Qin Miaoyu wanted a divorce in order to sever all ties with Lu Qi’an. But judging from the current situation, that clearly was not what had happened.
Qin Miaoyu shrugged. “A divorce is still a divorce. I was determined to end the marriage, but I never said I intended to stop seeing him afterward.”
Xu Xiaoqi looked at Qin Miaoyu and said with certainty, “Miaoyu, it seems you have other plans.”
Qin Miaoyu merely continued smiling without answering.

In the afternoon, Lu Qi’an came to pick Qin Miaoyu up again.
Xu Xiaoqi and Pei Yixue followed them to the car. As they looked at Lu Qi’an sitting in the driver’s seat, their expressions were filled with knowing significance.
Lu Qi’an asked Qin Miaoyu, “Is there something on my face? Why are they looking at me like that?”
“Nothing at all,” Qin Miaoyu replied. “Ignore them. I’m hungry, so let’s get home quickly.”
Hearing this, Lu Qi’an politely greeted the two women before driving Qin Miaoyu back to Mapleview Garden.
This time, the car did not stop outside. It drove straight into the parking lot of Mapleview Garden. Qin Miaoyu went upstairs first, while Lu Qi’an waited for quite a while. Only after taking off his jacket did he go upstairs as well.
Qin Miaoyu waited at the door. After confirming that the person pressing the doorbell was Lu Qi’an, she opened it and teased, “The way we’re acting makes us look rather furtive. It’s almost as though we’re…”
Ahem. Qin Miaoyu stopped herself.
Lu Qi’an glanced at her with a smile. Seeing that her face had reddened slightly, he did not make her finish the sentence.
Once they reached the living room, he asked, “What would you like to eat today?”
Qin Miaoyu thought about the dishes left over from the previous day and named several of her favorites.
They were halfway through the meal when Lu Qi’an’s phone rang.
He looked at the caller ID with displeasure, but answered anyway.
Qin Miaoyu had been eating with complete concentration, but when she heard the name Louis come from Lu Qi’an’s mouth, she paused with her chopsticks in midair.
Lu Qi’an listened as Louis asked him to go and find Julia. His brows drew tightly together, but he still replied, “I’ll send someone to pick her up.”
When Louis tried to persuade him to go personally, Lu Qi’an said bluntly, “Louis, either I send someone to get her, or you can hurry over here yourself and come find her.”
After exchanging a few more words, Lu Qi’an hung up and arranged for someone to bring Julia back to the hotel.
Once everything had been arranged, Qin Miaoyu asked, “Who did Louis want you to pick up?”
“His sister.”
Remembering what Louis looked like, Qin Miaoyu remarked casually, “Speaking of which, someone came to the studio a few days ago. She had blond hair, just like Louis…”
