Wen Hu and Qin Miaoyu forced a smile and greeted everyone before leaving.

Qin Miaoyu knocked on the door and entered the office, only to see Sister Lin Ling’s face clouded with displeasure. She didn’t ask much and explained Vice President Xu’s words to Lin Ling in detail.

Lin Ling took in Vice President Xu’s opinions, then fell silent, fixing her gaze on Qin Miaoyu.

“Sister Lin Ling, what’s wrong?” Qin Miaoyu asked.

“Miaoyu, do you remember? At first, I wanted you to follow me, but Director Li intercepted you.”

Qin Miaoyu wasn’t sure why Lin Ling mentioned this, so she just smiled and nodded.

“Do you know what Wen Hu just came to tell me?”

Qin Miaoyu thought of Wen Hu’s expression earlier; a suspicion flashed through her mind, but she still shook her head.

“He came to tell me he wants to resign. Yet the Anhui New Car Launch project is only halfway done, and he’s been involved throughout. If he leaves midway, I’ll have to find someone familiar with the project who can take over his part—no matter how you look at it, it’s troublesome. So just now, I refused his resignation. But now, I’ve changed my mind.”

Qin Miaoyu hadn’t expected her intuition to be correct—Wen Hu really wanted to resign, but she didn’t expect him to bring it up at such a critical juncture.

“The reason I had you communicate and hand over tasks at Anhui these two times is because you’re very familiar with the project. You’ve done your homework, and you’re naturally talented. If Director Li hadn’t held you down, you’d have been a designer by now, at the very least.”

Qin Miaoyu looked at Lin Ling.

Lin Ling gave her a brief smile. “If Wen Hu insists on leaving, you’re the most suitable candidate. I can take this opportunity to bring you over. Once the launch is successful, you should be able to rise directly to the designer position.”

One of the main reasons Qin Miaoyu was stuck was that she hadn’t participated in any standout projects. With Director Li and Zhou Xun overshadowing her, she’d only worked on minor or trivial tasks. If she could join this new car launch project, Director Li would no longer be able to use that as an excuse to hold her back.

However, it was unclear whether Wen Hu would really insist on leaving.

“Sister Lin Ling, if Wen Hu really resigns, I hope I can join this project!”

Hearing her answer, Lin Ling gave her a look of approval.

“Alright, I’ll have HR talk to Wen Hu again. If he’s determined to leave, you’ll fill his vacancy on my team.”

Two days later, Qin Miaoyu was notified by HR to move her workstation to Wen Hu’s spot.

Su Huichao, knowing she was going to Lin Ling’s team, was both happy and reluctant, yet couldn’t understand it.

“Tell me, what’s Wen Hu thinking? Such a great opportunity—once this launch is over, he’ll soon become a designer, but he insists on leaving. I really can’t figure out what’s on his mind.”

Qin Miaoyu didn’t know either. The only thing she could confirm was that Wen Hu had already found his next company, which was why he was so eager to leave.

She carried her belongings over to Wen Hu’s workstation.

Wen Hu was still packing up. When he saw her approach, his expression soured.

“Wen Hu, HR asked you to hand over your work to me before you leave.”

Wen Hu glanced at her, picked up a stack of documents from the desk, and tossed them carelessly.

“See for yourself.”

Qin Miaoyu couldn’t catch the documents in time, nor could anyone nearby. The papers scattered across the floor.

For a moment, the surroundings fell silent.

Qin Miaoyu looked at Wen Hu with a half-smile, speaking word by word: “Wen Hu, you’re the one who chose to resign at such a critical moment, which is why Lin Ling asked me to fill your position. Why do you act as if I’ve wronged you?”

“How would I know? You were brought onto the project as a temporary assistant, yet you’re here to take over my role. Maybe you’ve been waiting for me to leave all along? Now your wish is granted—who knows how happy you must be?”

This remark made Qin Miaoyu laugh outright.

“Wen Hu, even though I was brought onto the project temporarily to handle miscellaneous tasks, understanding the project is a basic requirement. That has nothing to do with you leaving or not.”

“As for watching for your departure? I never even come to this side normally. I only learned about your resignation when you submitted it yourself.”

He was the one who decided to leave, and she only heard the news days ago. Even if it wasn’t her, someone else would have to fill the vacancy—there was no way the position would be left empty.

“You threw it yourself. Pick it up. I haven’t received the handover documents, and the colleagues here can testify to that.”

“Yes, we can all testify!”

Zhu Jing, who had long been annoyed by Wen Hu, immediately chimed in, and the others nodded in agreement.

Seeing no one willing to help him, Wen Hu felt abandoned and bitter. He lowered his head and picked up the documents, accidentally knocking over more of his belongings.

He stopped dragging his feet, hurried to pick up the papers, handed the handover documents to Qin Miaoyu, then took his things and left.

The desk was still a mess, so Qin Miaoyu placed her things on Zhu Jing’s desk and fetched a cloth to clean the surface.

Once the workstation was tidy, Qin Miaoyu sorted through the documents Wen Hu had given her one by one.

A few files weren’t stapled together. After the earlier scattering, Wen Hu had only picked them up haphazardly, so she had to arrange them by document and page number.

“Zhu Jing, is this one for Lin Ling’s handover?” Qin Miaoyu held a page, puzzled. It didn’t seem like something a design assistant should handle, and the content made her even more suspicious. She decided to ask Zhu Jing, since she’d never worked with Lin Ling before.

Zhu Jing examined the document, equally confused.

“I’ve never seen this file. It should belong to Lin Ling’s side. Maybe someone made a mistake? Wen Hu started before me and often handled things for Lin Ling, so you might need to ask her.”

Qin Miaoyu had already sensed something was off, and when she saw Lin Ling’s extremely grim expression, she immediately realized the matter was serious.

Lin Ling rifled through documents on her desk, then threw them down with a thud.

“This file was never meant to go through Wen Hu. My documents are intact. Go check with the general manager to see if their documents are in order. If they are, contact me at once.”

Qin Miaoyu hurried to check, but the general manager’s documents were also intact!

“That means Wen Hu privately printed something. Go check the surveillance footage and see when he used the printer recently.”

The general manager’s team immediately launched an investigation into Wen Hu’s unauthorized printing, while Lin Ling faced an even bigger headache.

Wen Hu hadn’t stolen the most important documents, but what he took was crucial. To be safe, the only solution was to redesign everything from scratch…
