Chapter 78: Preparing for the Wedding
"Advice? Do you really think I'm the type to value romance over friendship? Even if I had any, I'd still be on Miaoyu's side—I wouldn't tell you all. Besides, I truly don't have any ideas. She'll just have to work through it herself..." Gu Jing's words held a trace of melancholy; anyone could tell how upset Miaoyu must be right now.
Seeing that Xia Lingyan was about to ask more, Gu Jing immediately covered his mouth. "If you're on your nephew's side, just keep quiet. You're getting on my nerves!"
Gu Jing's hint of impatience made Xia Lingyan wisely fall silent. In his heart, he could only hope his nephew would manage on his own.
Since moving into her second brother Liang Siyuan's place, Qin Miaoyu had never returned to the Liang family home, nor had anyone from the Liang family come to ask after her.
After all, Qin Miaoyu's blood type wasn't compatible with Liang Qibin's.
The doctors had recommended an early bone marrow transplant for Liang Qibin, so the Liang family had already contacted a previously identified donor. As long as the match was successful and there were no complications, the transplant would be scheduled soon.
It was Zheng Suning who informed Qin Miaoyu of this news. When Miaoyu heard, she wasn't the least bit surprised; it matched what she'd already surmised.
Zheng Suning sighed, "It's just as well the blood types didn't match. Who knows what further trouble the Liang family would have stirred up otherwise? I wonder what the rest of them are thinking..."
If you want someone to be tested for compatibility, just ask openly—or offer generous compensation. If they're willing, the matter will resolve itself. But if they're unwilling, no amount of scheming will help, let alone trickery.
As for Miaoyu, Zheng Suning had only met her a few times, but it was clear: outwardly gentle, but with a different spirit within. Even her return to the Liang family wasn't motivated by a craving for their wealth.
So even if the match had worked, the Liang family's plans would never have gone as they wished.
Let alone, the person marrying Miaoyu was Lu Qi'an from the Lu family in Jingcheng...
Qin Miaoyu paid no mind to what the Liang family thought. She was absorbed in the layout of the hotel ballroom on the table before her, considering how to arrange the wedding.
Worried that Miaoyu might continue to be saddened by Lu Qi'an, and since the Liang family was otherwise occupied, Liang Siyuan and Zheng Suning discussed the matter and decided to entrust Miaoyu with a significant task: overseeing the preparations for their wedding.
At first, Miaoyu tried to decline, feeling she wasn't cut out for this and fearing she might ruin the wedding.
But Liang Siyuan reassured her that she needn't worry about the details; a professional team was already hired. She only needed to oversee the overall direction.
Still hesitant, Miaoyu was swayed when Liang Siyuan pleaded, "It's your second brother's wedding, and there's no one in the Liang family to help out. I can only rely on you. Besides, it'll make your sister-in-law feel valued, right?"
It wasn't really a plea for sympathy—what Liang Siyuan said was true.
Because of Liang Qibin's illness, not a single member of the Liang family, from their parents down to the eldest brother and sister-in-law, had stepped forward to help with Siyuan's wedding.
On the other side, the Xi family, as Zheng Suning's family, was busy handling their own matters and didn't know the Liang family's situation, so no one had time to help Siyuan either.
Miaoyu was instantly persuaded, thinking how she and Siyuan truly were "brother and sister in adversity."
So lately, she'd been busy with Siyuan and Suning's wedding preparations—and to her surprise, found a certain enjoyment in it.
Especially in the wedding planning itself—she found it somewhat similar to the exhibition design work she'd done before.
Seeing that Miaoyu was indifferent to the Liang family, and more interested in asking for her thoughts on the wedding arrangements, Suning turned to Siyuan with a smile, "This is actually quite nice."
Siyuan's wedding had enlisted a renowned planning team, and Miaoyu became closely involved in the design.
The chief planner even joked, "Why not join our team, Miss Miaoyu? With a little more experience, you'd soon be able to plan weddings on your own."
Miaoyu laughed and shook her head.
She could sense the planner's genuine appreciation, but she knew that admiration was built on the foundation of her current status.
Back at Yu Hong, whenever she had a flash of inspiration, it would be dismissed outright, even if her ideas ended up being used in the final design.
Now, the situation was similar, but because she was not a subordinate but half a client, even the smallest bright idea was lavishly praised...
She couldn't deny it—such words were pleasing to hear. No wonder so many people wanted to be rich or powerful. With either or both, the world was suddenly more agreeable.
Catching herself drifting, she pulled her thoughts back to the planning documents in front of her.
Upon returning from the planning company, Miaoyu saw Lu Qi'an's car parked not far away.
When Lu Qi'an spotted her, Miaoyu rolled up the window and instructed the driver to pull into the compound.
Seeing this, Lu Qi'an lowered his half-raised hand.
Perhaps because Liang Qibin's condition had stabilized, the Liang family finally remembered Siyuan's wedding and invited Siyuan and Suning home for dinner.
"And isn't Qin Miaoyu staying with you now? Bring her along, too."
Siyuan had intended to refuse, but seeing Miaoyu winking at him, he agreed.
After hanging up, Miaoyu explained, "Second Brother, I just want to have a look—see what the Liang family is like these days..."
When the three arrived, Sister-in-law Wei Wei was warmly welcoming to Siyuan and Suning, but when it came to Miaoyu, she acted as if she didn’t exist.
Miaoyu couldn't help but laugh. "Sister-in-law, it's been less than a week since we last met. Why the sudden cold shoulder?"
Wei Wei hadn't expected Miaoyu to call her out in front of everyone. With a touch of embarrassment, she forced a smile. "Oh, I was just lost in thought and forgot to greet you."
"Is that so? I thought your eyesight was failing—you couldn't see someone as big as me standing right here..."
"Of course not..."
"Qin Miaoyu! Is that any way to speak to your sister-in-law?" Liang Siquan scolded.
Miaoyu rolled her eyes. "And who are you supposed to be?"
She recalled the look Siquan had given her before—she'd have loved to give him a good kick. Asking her to be tested as a donor, yet treating her with such an attitude—what a joke!
"Qin Miaoyu, this is your elder brother. Show some respect," Xi Ruofen interjected.
Miaoyu shrugged. "Sorry, I only have one brother: Liang Siyuan. If someone doesn’t treat me as a sister, why should I call him brother?"
"Enough. We're here to discuss Siyuan and Suning's wedding. No more arguing," Liang Huiyi interjected.
