Chapter 103: Gentle Tian
When Su Wan-ning spoke, her tone was clearly tinged with irritation, yet she never expected Fang Wei to offer not the slightest resistance. After a moment’s hesitation, Fang Wei simply nodded in agreement.
“Well, that’s fine then.”
What an absolute paragon of goodness!
In that instant, Su Wan-ning felt her blood surge, and with a cold snort of disappointment, she refrained from saying anything further.
Once their belongings were tidied, everyone set out at once. For the first leg of the journey, Tian Bo-yu drove, while the others sat in the back.
The production team had arranged for a spacious RV this time, its interior luxuriously appointed. Just behind the driver’s seat was a broad table, ingeniously designed to fold out.
With someone at the wheel, the others enjoyed snacks and fruit provided by the show, chatting leisurely along the way.
For the children, this collective RV journey was a rare experience, and they played happily throughout the trip.
Su Wan-ning had no desire to sit with the others and join their conversation, but the RV’s cramped space left no alternative. In the end, she took up a book and began interacting with the children.
“Do you know where this is?” she asked.
Sui-sui replied, expressionless, “Mount Huang.”
“And this one?” Su Wan-ning pressed on.
“Mount Meng.”
…
She pointed out several locations in succession, and Sui-sui answered each one without hesitation, even describing the local climate and environment with remarkable clarity.
Gradually, the other children were drawn into their exchange. Even Su Wan-ning cast a look of surprise at her own son.
“How do you know all this?”
Sui-sui didn’t respond, but Nian-nian, bursting with pride, patted her chest as if she were the one stealing the spotlight.
“My brother learns it all from TV. We watch TV a lot!”
Ming-ming, nearby, exclaimed in admiration, “Wow, I’ve only ever seen little pigs on TV.”
Su Wan-ning laughed so hard she nearly doubled over. “You really never forget about food, do you?”
Yin Shan-shan, noticing the commotion, glanced coolly at Yang-yang, her expression reproachful, as though blaming him for letting another child shine.
From the moment they joined the show, Yin Shan-shan had repeatedly reminded Yang-yang to perform well and outshine the other children.
But Yang-yang, by nature, disliked competition. Though he understood his mother’s intent, he simply couldn’t bring himself to act.
Ultimately, Yin Shan-shan, frustrated, spoke up herself. “Yang-yang, didn’t you say you prepared something to show the other children?”
Yang-yang looked a little awkward but still took a small abacus from his backpack.
“I’ll demonstrate mental abacus calculation. You can ask me any questions you like.”
[Why is everyone suddenly trying so hard?]
[One’s good at geography, another’s good at math—these are children, why make it a competition?]
[I feel the pressure. Thanks, Mom.]
Su Wan-ning knew full well who Yin Shan-shan’s words were aimed at. She noticed that Fang Wei was now driving, while the other guests continued chatting without any intention of taking over.
Su Wan-ning rose, sighing inwardly, and made her way to the driver’s seat.
She remembered that at the beginning of the book, this Fang Wei had interacted with the female protagonist—herself. The description suggested that Fang Wei was innately gentle, never refusing anyone, which made her tread carefully in the entertainment industry, facing constant hardship.
Previously, Su Wan-ning thought that such a nature would make stepping away from the industry and focusing on family a good option for Fang Wei, but she hadn’t realized Fang Wei endured long-term emotional manipulation from her husband.
According to the plot, no one was yet aware of this, and Fang Wei continued to bear it alone.
With these thoughts, Su Wan-ning arrived at the front and said to Fang Wei, who was driving, “Let me take over. You should rest for a while.”
Fang Wei seemed surprised, turning to glance at her mid-drive, bewildered. “Wasn’t it agreed I’d drive?”
“Of course not. It’s a long journey—how could you, a woman, handle it all?”
Su Wan-ning deliberately raised her voice, and Feng Rui, seated behind, rolled her eyes quietly.
Whoever wants to drive can do it; she certainly won’t.
Yin Shan-shan frowned slightly but handled herself well in front of the cameras, showing only concern: “Yes, Xiao Fang, it’s too tiring for you alone. We should take turns.”
Su Wan-ning rolled her eyes dramatically. “It should always be everyone taking turns. Why say ‘take her place’?”
Everyone was used to Su Wan-ning’s way of speaking, and the audience in the livestream didn’t find it odd.
[Yes, everyone should take turns. Why does Fang Wei have to be the good guy?]
[The others talk a good game, but why don’t they step up and drive?]
[Su Wan-ning just wants to seize the opportunity to stand out.]
Having swapped Fang Wei out, Su Wan-ning returned to her seat. Meanwhile, Fang Wei finally had a moment to glance at her phone, discovering an unread email.
She opened it, and at once, feeling guilty, closed it again.
The email contained detailed information about Su Wan-ning.
Yin Shan-shan, who noticed Fang Wei’s furtive expression, frowned slightly and took Fang Wei’s hand.
“What’s wrong, Xiao Fang? Are you tired from driving?”
Fang Wei shook her head. “I’m fine.”
Preoccupied with their own concerns, the adults failed to notice that the new child, Xiao Tian, had already joined in the fun, while the outstanding Sui-sui and Nian-nian naturally drew attention.
Xiao Tian was a considerate boy; on the bus, he kindly helped Nian-nian by throwing away her snack wrappers.
“If we brake suddenly, these things might dirty your clothes.”
Nian-nian’s eyes widened. “Oh, you’re so smart, Brother Tian.”
Xiao Tian smiled softly. “That’s nothing. Good friends should help each other. We’re friends now, aren’t we?”
“Of course!” Nian-nian replied enthusiastically, then turned to continue playing with Sister Da Xi, styling each other’s hair.
Nian-nian, with her thick brows, large eyes, and fair skin, resembled a mixed-race doll. Her slightly golden hair fell around her face, and in Xiao Tian’s eyes, she looked like a princess straight out of a fairy tale.
“Nian-nian, you’re so cute.”
“Thank you.” Nian-nian answered politely.
“Ow!”
Nian-nian’s hair was pulled, making her wince in pain.
Noticing this, Xiao Tian immediately turned, cupping Nian-nian’s head with his hands, and, without hesitation, pressed a soft kiss to her cheek.
“What are you doing!” Sui-sui, fierce as a young predator, immediately intervened and shoved him hard.
