Chapter 104: Who Is Right, Who Is Wrong
The car was moving unsteadily, and with that push, Xiao Tian landed abruptly on the floor, his face blank with confusion. He still didn’t understand what had happened when Suisui, teeth clenched, lunged at him again, actually trying to strike him. Xiao Tian panicked immediately; pampered and protected all his life, he had never fought with anyone. He sat there dazed, without any notion of resistance.
“Hey, Suisui, what are you doing? You can’t hit another child!” Fang Wei cried out at once, reaching out to separate the two children. But Suisui, already furious, was not easily restrained and swung his fist, landing it squarely on Xiao Tian’s face.
“Ouch!” Fang Wei, heart aching for her son, let out a shocked cry, and the others in the carriage rushed over in alarm to break them apart, the scene devolving into chaos.
Su Wan Ning, still unclear about what had happened, turned to see Nian Nian crying alone outside the crowd, and Suisui nowhere to be seen.
A bad feeling rose within her.
“Sister Su, I’ll drive for now. Go see what’s happening. It looks like Suisui and the other child are fighting.” Tian Boyu thoughtfully stepped up to take the driver’s seat. Su Wan Ning hurried over, just as the adults finally managed to pull Suisui away. But his eyes, full of resentment, remained locked on Xiao Tian. His hands at his sides were clenched tight, knuckles white, displaying the same fierce determination as when he first met Su Wan Ning.
Startled, Su Wan Ning’s first instinct was to walk over and gather Nian Nian into her arms, comforting her gently.
“Don’t cry, Nian Nian. Tell me what happened.”
Clearly shaken by her brother, Nian Nian clung to Su Wan Ning’s shoulder for a while before sobbing out, “Mommy, Xiao Tian kissed me just now, and my brother fought with him…”
With her daughter’s brief explanation, Su Wan Ning understood the cause. She didn’t scold Suisui but instead turned to gently embrace her son, soothing his tense body.
“It’s all right. Nian Nian wasn’t hurt. Don’t be afraid.”
While Su Wan Ning soothed her children, Feng Rui and Yin Shanshan seized the opportunity to stir trouble, eager for drama.
“Suisui, you’re in the wrong here. How could you resort to violence so easily?”
“Yeah, we never expected it. This child is so fierce. Xiao Tian didn’t do anything wrong—why hit him?” Yin Shanshan nodded, “He’s had violent tendencies since he was young. Imagine what he’ll be like when he grows up. Su Ning, you really need to get him under control.”
Su Wan Ning listened, her patience thinning. She frowned and replied coldly, “I am his mother. His upbringing is my responsibility—you don’t need to worry so much.”
At that moment, Fang Wei, holding her frightened son, couldn’t hold back, “How can you defend him at a time like this? We all saw it clearly—Suisui struck Xiao Tian first.”
Su Wan Ning sensed her son’s body gradually relaxing in her arms. She whispered softly in his ear, “Don’t be afraid. Try to calm down, all right?”
When her son nodded gently, Su Wan Ning finally released him.
Meanwhile, the barrage of messages online was full of criticism toward Suisui. The photographer had captured everything clearly: Suisui had acted first and aggressively, so sympathy naturally favored the weaker child.
“I’ve already asked—was it because Xiao Tian kissed Nian Nian first?”
Sniffling, Xiao Tian nodded, “Yes, I thought Nian Nian was really cute, so I wanted to kiss her.”
Feng Rui couldn’t resist interjecting, “Children kissing each other is nothing—what’s the big deal?”
Su Wan Ning shot her a sharp glare.
“It’s not nothing. Precisely because there’s no awareness of gender boundaries from childhood, so many tragedies happen as adults. Shouldn’t children learn from an early age that there are differences between boys and girls?”
Her words silenced Feng Rui. Yin Shanshan scoffed, “Isn’t it a bit much to elevate a simple kiss to this level? He’s just a child—how could he have bad intentions?”
“I believe Xiao Tian meant no harm, but kissing Nian Nian without her permission is impolite. That’s clearly wrong. Suisui wanted to protect his sister—I admit his approach was extreme, but he wasn’t at fault for the incident’s cause.”
Fang Wei’s face had grown quite ugly. “Fine, let me apologize for Xiao Tian. He’ll keep his distance from your daughter from now on.”
Su Wan Ning shook her head.
“That’s not right. I’m addressing the issue, not targeting anyone. The ones at fault are Xiao Tian and Suisui, the victim is Nian Nian. The apology and forgiveness shouldn’t be between you and me.”
Then she knelt to look at Xiao Tian at his level, her tone calm, “You kissed your sister without her permission. Though you meant no harm, it hurt and offended her. Are you willing to apologize?”
Xiao Tian hid behind Fang Wei, neither nodding nor shaking his head.
So Su Wan Ning brought her son over.
“You acted wrongly by hitting someone. You need to apologize to your brother.”
Suisui pressed his lips tightly together, his face full of resistance, but Su Wan Ning gave him a calm glance, and he quickly relented.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hit you.”
With Su Wan Ning’s mediation, the atmosphere in the carriage eased considerably. Nian Nian wiped away her tears and eagerly said, “Xiao Tian, hurry and apologize to me—I’m ready to forgive you!”
[Oh, Nian Nian is such a little angel.]
[Girls like her truly deserve to be protected. I think Su Wan Ning did the right thing.]
Instantly, the online commentary shifted; many of the earlier criticisms of Su Wan Ning faded away.
Only then did Xiao Tian timidly speak up, “Sorry, Nian Nian. I was wrong.”
“I forgive you. We’ll still be good friends, and you shouldn’t be angry with my brother!”
Children’s friendships are oddly simple—sometimes, a single apology is enough to erase all unpleasantness, and soon they’re playing together again.
Yet the distance between Su Wan Ning and the others had clearly grown deeper.
On the way, Nian Nian took from her pocket the nougat treats that Su Wan Ning had made for her and her brother on set, tore open the package, and popped one into her mouth.
Immediately, the sweet aroma of nougat and nuts spread from Nian Nian, tempting Ming Ming nearby, who couldn’t help but look over with longing.
He stared eagerly, and Nian Nian took out another candy, but instead of eating it herself, she slipped it into Su Wan Ning’s mouth.
Next, she gave one to Suisui.
[Laughing so hard—did anyone notice Ming Ming’s longing gaze? Someone, look at our Ming Ming!]
[Ming Ming really wants some candy. Nian Nian, hurry and notice him!]
[Feeling sorry for Ming Ming for a second.]
