Chapter 107: Help Mom
The video then cut to Yin Shanshan’s remark that even Fang Wei’s comeback had not been greeted with such a lavish welcome back to the program.
The scene shifted again to the moment everyone was arguing over who would drive. Su Wanning, infuriated, had pressed Fang Wei with a hard-edged question, asking whether she wanted to step in for everyone, and Fang Wei had agreed.
On top of that, the clip had been stitched together with all manner of other “rude” moments involving Su Wanning and Fang Wei.
The first trending comment was blunt and vicious: Su Wanning, get out of the entertainment industry.
Scrolling down, most of the rest were Fang Wei’s fans venting their dissatisfaction and hurling abuse at Su Wanning.
Their idol had only just returned, only to be bullied like this by Su Wanning. The fans naturally would not swallow it. They banded together of their own accord to launch a campaign against her, and even declared that if the show did not terminate Su Wanning’s contract, they would never watch it again.
“These clips are all chopped up. There’s no context, no beginning or end. It’s obviously meant to target me.”
After being blackened so many times, Su Wanning remained remarkably calm. She handed the phone back to Wen Sen.
Wen Sen was so anxious he looked ready to climb the walls. He took the phone and began pacing back and forth.
“Of course I know that. I’ve already had someone sort out the full livestream recording, but even after we put it out, it barely had any effect. Most people refuse to watch it, and instead keep fanning the flames.”
The morning air was still a little cold. Su Wanning was only wearing a thin coat. One finger tapped lightly against her arm as she thought.
“When things get this big, people naturally just want the spectacle. Who’s going to care about the truth?”
Su Wanning had always been fairly rational about situations like this, so she simply asked, “What’s Fang Wei saying?”
“She hasn’t made a move at all. Should we go talk to her?”
Su Wanning considered it for a moment, then remembered that the person who had stayed with Fang Wei last night was Yin Shanshan. Understanding dawned on her at once.
“Forget it. She won’t help us. At this point, only a bigger bombshell can draw everyone’s attention.”
“You mean finding someone to take the fall?”
For reasons he couldn’t quite explain, Wen Sen was drawn to the calm and composed air around Su Wanning. Even he, who had been restless only moments before, began to settle down.
Su Wanning’s lips curved faintly. She looked at the mountaintop before her, only its peak visible through the drifting mist, and gave a soft huff.
“How could we just shift the blame around? Of course we have to help everyone dig out the person pulling the strings behind the scenes.”
Wen Sen stared at her and unconsciously took two steps backward.
“Could you stop smiling like that? It’s terrifying.”
Su Wanning came back to herself, patted his shoulder, and soothed him. “All right, you don’t need to worry about this. I’ll handle it.”
“How are you going to handle it?”
Su Wanning did not answer. She turned and went back into the tent with an air of secrecy. The moment the flap dropped behind her, however, her expression changed at once into a flattering smile as she walked over to Sui Sui.
What else could she do? Of course she had to ask her well-behaved little boy for help.
“Sui Sui, stop pretending to sleep. I know you’re already awake.”
The next second, Sui Sui really did open his eyes, his black pupils carrying a faint wariness.
“Um… could you help me do something?”
Sui Sui sat up and followed Su Wanning to the other end of the tent. After hearing what she wanted, his first reaction was to object. “Didn’t you say you’d never make me do this kind of thing again?”
Of course Su Wanning remembered that profound first conversation between mother and son, only to have herself slapped in the face not long after. She felt a little awkward.
She hurried to explain, “This is different. Last time, I couldn’t be sure whether what you were doing was dangerous. But this time, it definitely won’t be.”
“Oh.”
The little one still wore a cold expression, his attitude unreadable. Su Wanning had no choice but to ask carefully, “If we resolve this, you can ask me for anything you want. I’ll agree to it.”
At that, Sui Sui finally seemed mildly interested. He turned to look at her. “Really?”
Su Wanning immediately raised a hand. “Of course it’s real. When have I ever lied to you?”
After saying that, she met his fixed stare and added with an awkward laugh, “I mean recently. I haven’t lied to you recently, right?”
Only then did the little one finally nod. His expression remained cool as he said lightly, “All right.”
Su Wanning let out a breath, and her heart finally settled back into place.
As she got up to prepare the video, Su Wanning inwardly cried bitterly. She was such a failure as a mother that even talking to her own son made her this nervous.
Her hands were quick. After all, she had once been a professional blogger, and editing was second nature to her. After getting the source material from Wen Sen, she cut out the parts she wanted. In only a few moves, a new video was finished.
She brought over the computer and handed the video to Sui Sui. Sitting in front of the screen, he stared intently at the display, fingers flying over the keyboard. The keys rang beneath his hands like a fluent melody.
Watching line after line of code scroll across the screen, code she could not understand at all, Su Wanning clicked her tongue in admiration.
“Are you really my son?”
In the midst of his busy work, Sui Sui spared her a glance, his eyes full of warning.
“Then he must be my son indeed—smart and clever, just like me!”
Su Wanning immediately changed her tune.
“All right.”
It was not long before Sui Sui turned the computer screen toward her. At first, Su Wanning was still doubtful. “So fast?”
But when she turned and saw that the mysteriously appearing video had already climbed onto the trending list, she widened her eyes in shock.
The video she had just edited was already trending, and its views and clicks were climbing steadily.
“That’s incredible,” Su Wanning could not help praising.
For a fleeting moment, Sui Sui’s tight jaw nearly broke, but he still kept a straight face and said, “It’s simple.”
Looking at the comments exactly as she had expected, Su Wanning nodded in satisfaction.
“Using their own tricks against them. This will make Yin Shanshan furious.”
On the other side, Yin Shanshan, who had gotten up early and had been staring at her own masterpiece, waiting to enjoy Su Wanning’s humiliation, was suddenly called by the studio. To her shock, she had ended up on the trending list as well.
The reason was that someone had uploaded a video online titled, Yin Shanshan Puts on a Diva Act and Publicly Bullies Fang Wei on the Show.
In the video, Yin Shanshan had agreed to Fang Wei’s suggestion that Fang Wei drive for her, and had shown no concern whatsoever for Fang Wei’s effort and hard work.
A mixture of true and false clips had been spliced together to create the impression that she had bullied Fang Wei.
“I can’t believe Shanshan is actually that kind of person.”
“What? What? I wake up to Su Wanning bullying Fang Wei, and now even Yin Shanshan is bullying her?”
“You really can’t judge a book by its cover.”
“Yin Shanshan, apologize!”
Public opinion turned in an instant. No one mentioned Su Wanning’s matter anymore. Instead, the heat around this new video kept rising.
Yin Shanshan’s face went as dark as the sole of a shoe. She directly woke Fang Wei, who was still asleep beside her.
