Chapter 118: A Marriage of Plastic
[Laughter erupted online, joking about how her husband sat as attentively as a schoolboy in class—did Su Wanning have to raise her hand to speak to her brother-in-law?]
“Uh… you sit,” Su Wanning said, unconsciously rising from her seat. On the show, she was usually forceful and relentless, committed to her shameless spirit, never showing weakness before anyone.
The viewers in the chat laughed heartily. Qin Jingchen also sat down, nodding slightly toward the empty chair opposite him. “You sit too.”
“Oh, alright,” Su Wanning responded, nodding absentmindedly as she sat back down.
[Is this some kind of job interview?]
[Why do this couple look so unfamiliar with each other?]
[Has Su Wanning been unfaithful? Why so guilty?]
Nian Nian, standing nearby, looked first at Su Wanning, then at Qin Jingchen, pouting in dissatisfaction.
“Daddy, Mommy, I think what you’re doing is wrong.”
Su Wanning’s heart skipped a beat; she glanced over guiltily and asked nervously, “What’s wrong?”
Her reaction was too anxious. Sitting across from her, Qin Jingchen’s deep black eyes locked onto her, as if piercing through all her thoughts. Su Wanning instinctively looked away, unable to meet his gaze.
Nian Nian spoke with conviction: “Da Xi said that after her parents haven’t seen each other for a long time, they always hug. Why didn’t you two? Daddy, don’t you love Mommy anymore?”
[Well done, kid!]
[Hahaha, a question straight from the soul.]
[Child, you’re still young—you should just make them kiss!]
Su Wanning was completely taken aback that such words came from her little daughter. Her first instinct was to look at Qin Jingchen—but when she did, she saw a faint smile on his face.
What was he smiling about? Was he thinking about that night?
Su Wanning felt a wave of embarrassment.
She looked toward the door. “It’s getting late; why hasn’t the director called us for dinner? Are we skipping dinner tonight?”
Her panic was clear on her face. Qin Jingchen, sitting calmly beside her, answered Nian Nian seriously, “Of course not. It’s just that your mom is a little shy.”
Nian Nian giggled and leaned into Su Wanning’s arms.
“Mom, why are you still shy?”
---
Su Wanning’s eyes widened. “Why can’t I be shy? No, wait, who’s shy? I’m not!”
Flustered and stumbling over her words, Su Wanning struggled for composure. Nian Nian chuckled quietly in her arms, then glanced up at Qin Jingchen across the table and winked.
Mission accomplished!
Thanks to Qin Jingchen’s arrival, Wang Zan changed the program schedule on the spot. That evening, no games or challenges were arranged; instead, a lavish local dinner was prepared for all the guests.
A long table was filled with a dazzling array of dishes—a rare treat since filming began.
Everyone’s first reaction was suspicion. After sitting down, no one touched their food. Yu Xin watched Wang Zan behind the monitors warily.
“Director, is this meal for us? Are we supposed to win it by doing a challenge?”
Wang Zan smiled awkwardly and nervously glanced at Qin Jingchen.
Qin Jingchen had explicitly instructed to take good care of Su Wanning. If he found out the guests had trouble even getting a meal, he would be displeased...
“No, eat with peace of mind today. There are no tasks.”
Hearing this, the others finally relaxed and began to eat.
Qin Jingchen sat beside Su Wanning. They barely spoke during the meal. Su Wanning kept her head down, either eating or serving more to the two children.
[Su Wanning doesn’t usually take such care of the kids. Why is she different with Qin Jingchen here?]
[Hey, Sister Su, don’t chicken out.]
[What about the hugging? I want to see some hugging!]
Su Wanning glanced at the comments on the screen and sighed inwardly.
Why did her fans love to stir things up so much? Couldn’t they just enjoy the show together?
During dinner, with Qin Jingchen’s presence, everyone was quieter than usual, until Yin Shanshan smiled and said,
“Thanks to Mr. Qin’s arrival, we get to enjoy the show’s special dinner.”
“Yes, thanks, Mr. Qin,” Fang Wei nodded in agreement.
Yu Xin, however, glanced thoughtfully at Su Wanning and Tian Boyu.
“I disagree. I think the biggest thanks should go to Su Wanning. Otherwise, why would Mr. Qin show up like this?”
Everyone laughed, teasing each other. Qin Jingchen remained composed, eating slowly and gracefully, exuding an air of nobility in every gesture.
Su Wanning was unusually quiet, shrinking into herself like a quail.
---
The teasing died down, and all eyes subtly turned to the two of them. Under this pressure, Qin Jingchen picked some food and placed it on Su Wanning’s plate.
“Eat more. You’ve been working too hard lately.”
At that moment, Wang Zan shuddered.
He immediately turned to his assistant and ordered, “Cut the schedule in half for the next two days. Don’t let the guests get exhausted.”
Su Wanning smiled awkwardly, swallowing the food hurriedly. Before she could look up, Qin Jingchen’s chopsticks reached over again with another dish.
“This one’s good too. Try it.”
Su Wanning forced herself to finish it, then immediately another bowl of soup was served.
Until Tian Boyu’s indifferent voice came from across the table: “Mr. Qin is really good to Sister Su, but it looks like she’s full.”
Su Wanning immediately stopped eating, nodding silently in her heart. At this moment, Tian Boyu was her light!
Qin Jingchen’s eyes darkened for a moment before turning to Su Wanning and asking in a low voice, “Oh? Is that so?”
“…”
Su Wanning dared not speak.
What could she say? If she nodded now, it felt like Qin Jingchen would strangle her the next second.
So she looked at Tian Boyu opposite her, forced a dry laugh, and shook her head decisively.
“Of course not. I can still eat a lot!”
No sooner had she spoken than Qin Jingchen filled her bowl with rice again, smiling with a faint, inscrutable smirk.
“Good. Eat more.”
“…”
Su Wanning lowered her head, pushing the rice around with her chopsticks. The strange feeling in her chest grew stronger.
What was going on with Qin Jingchen? Why was he suddenly so concerned about whether she was eating enough?
Frowning in puzzlement, Su Wanning did not notice that Qin Jingchen was quietly watching Tian Boyu across the table.
