Chapter 147: Pranking the Production Crew
"Hahaha..."
Yu Xin suddenly found the laughter incredibly familiar. She turned her head in surprise, only to find Su Wanning standing behind her, doubled over with laughter. Beside her stood a speechless Sui Sui, staring at his hysterically laughing mother.
"How is it you? Su Wanning, you weren't the one scaring us just now, were you?"
A surge of anger replaced her previous fear. Yu Xin turned, hands on her hips, and confronted Su Wanning. Tian Boyu also regained his composure, staring at her with a puzzled expression. Su Wanning hurriedly waved her hands in surrender.
"It has nothing to do with me. I only dared to come over after I heard you running away. Whoever scared you before must have been a staff member."
Tian Boyu coughed awkwardly, his eyes darting away as he said, "Ahem, I figured it was the production team playing tricks. How could there possibly be real ghosts in this world?"
Yu Xin rolled her eyes dramatically. "Really? I wonder who it was that got so scared by a ghost they started stuttering and couldn't even finish a sentence."
"Alright, alright, he protected you, after all. You can't undermine him like that," Su Wanning said, stepping in to smooth things over. She glanced at Daxi, who was still visibly shaken, and reached out to stroke her cheek comfortingly. "Daxi, don't be afraid. There are no ghosts in this world. That was just the production staff trying to help you build up your courage."
Daxi sniffled and looked at Sui Sui, still trembling. "Auntie Su, was the little brother scared, too?"
Sui Sui frowned slightly, clearly displeased, but Su Wanning caught his eye and gave him a subtle wink. Sui Sui nodded reluctantly. "Yeah, yeah, he got a big scare too. Daxi, you’re so brave!"
Encouraged by Su Wanning’s praise, Daxi felt much better. The two groups decided to join forces and move forward together.
[Bold Su, have you forgotten about President Qin and his daughter back at the lake?]
[Didn't they say they were splitting up for the sake of fairness? So she really did ditch President Qin on purpose.]
Noticing the comments, Su Wanning feared these troublemaking netizens would run off to tattle to Qin Jingchen. She hurriedly offered a transparent excuse: "That group is too timid, and besides, I have my reasons for doing this."
Su Wanning then asked Yu Xin, "While you were walking here, did you find any of the so-called treasures the production team mentioned?"
"We only found a wooden box with what looks like a puzzle piece inside. We didn't find anything else." Yu Xin handed over the piece. Su Wanning took it and passed it directly to her son.
Sui Sui took out the three pieces they had found. Together with the one from Yu Xin, they formed a mostly complete image.
"What is this?"
Yu Xin and Tian Boyu frowned at the puzzle on the ground. The pattern was highly abstract, consisting only of simple lines and some decorations like trees and flowers.
"If I'm not mistaken, this should be a topographic map of the woods we're currently in."
"A map? Is the treasure we're supposed to find just a map? What's the use of having this?" Tian Boyu asked curiously.
"Our image isn't complete yet, but I suspect that once we assemble the full map, we'll see markings for the treasure. Look, these lines here should be guides leading to the treasure. Based on my memory of our route, we entered here, met up here, and our current position is about here." As Su Wanning explained, she traced the map with her finger, and the others suddenly realized what she meant.
"It's that complicated? To get a full map, we need six pieces! The production team is so devious, and they even sent staff to scare us along the way!" Yu Xin grumbled, glaring at the nearby cameraman, who shivered behind his lens.
Su Wanning gathered the pieces and gazed into the darkness, deep in thought.
"We can't just let the production team lead us by the nose. Since they’ve given us such a 'generous gift,' we should return the favor."
"What are you planning? You aren't going to dress up as a ghost to scare the director, are you? He won't be scared by you," Yu Xin warned.
"They’ve already used the ghost trick; doing it back to them would be meaningless. My plan is..."
Su Wanning and the others deliberately avoided the cameras, huddled together, and whispered for a long time.
A moment later, Yu Xin burst into laughter and gave Su Wanning a thumbs up. "Brilliant! That's truly brilliant! The director will be furious when he finds out."
[What is it that I, a VIP user, can't hear!]
[I'm so curious, what are they up to?]
[I was originally in Yin Shanshan's livestream, just visiting, but now I can't leave!]
[What exactly is Bold Su planning?]
Many viewers were drifting between channels, now turning their attention to Yin Shanshan and Fang Wei, who had yet to be spooked by the staff's "ghosts." Most netizens refrained from tipping them off, though a small number of dedicated fans left vague warnings.
[Goddess, be careful, there might be danger in the woods.]
[Why is their group moving so slowly?]
[They don't seem to have found a single piece.]
"Pieces?" Yin Shanshan noticed the comments and frowned.
"What pieces?" Fang Wei had been walking for quite a while without seeing any sign of the "treasure," and was starting to feel bored.
"I don't know. I saw it in the comments. I assume it's a clue the production team left for us. Let's keep a closer look out."
As Yin Shanshan replied, she scanned her surroundings. She noticed many viewers warning her to be careful. Could there really be some danger in these woods? No, if there were real danger, the director would have called a halt. That meant the danger was likely a deliberate setup by the production team.
An experienced reality show veteran, Yin Shanshan quickly deduced the situation. She kept a calm expression, acting as if she knew nothing, and continued walking until she heard strange footsteps nearby.
Fang Wei stopped, looking at her in terror. "Sister Shanshan, did you hear some strange sounds?"
Yin Shanshan took a deep breath. She already had a strategy in mind. She put on a look of alarm, scanned the area with a vigilant gaze, and whispered, "Could it be... that there’s something unclean in these woods?"
