Chapter Fifty-Six: Fruit Tea
This time, Wang Zan had no way to play favorites. In front of the cameras and everyone present, he could only announce that the winner of the prize was Su Wanning.
“Whoever catches the lucky chicken gets to rest from now until dinner. The others have to stay here and help Uncle Li clean out the chicken coop.”
Having made the announcement, he left in a huff.
[Dog of a production team, I like it.]
[Interesting, I like it. We get to watch Xin Xin being chased by chickens again!]
[Damn it, is this rigged or what?]
Nothing could be more delightful than the news of being allowed to rest. Without a second thought, Su Wanning tossed the chicken she was holding aside, gathered the two children, and walked off.
“Babies, Sister Su is clocking out. I want to end the livestream, I’m too tired! Type ‘Sister Su wants to get off work’ in the chat on the public screen.”
[How badly does she not want to work?]
[Sister Su doesn’t want to get off work, keep streaming for three more hours!]
[Look at Feng Rui’s face in the back, she’s so mad her face is about to contort!]
With not a care in the world, Su Wanning took the two children home, enjoyed a lovely bath, and then entered the living room where the kids were reading.
“Sui Sui,” she called.
Sui Sui looked up, his clear eyes gazing at her. Under such a gaze, Su Wanning suddenly felt awkward. She cleared her throat and beckoned him over. “Come here, I have something to say to you.”
Nian Nian was completely absorbed in her picture book and didn’t notice. Sui Sui hesitated for a moment.
Su Wanning smiled bitterly to herself. How unqualified a mother must she be, for her son to be so guarded?
But in the end, Sui Sui walked over.
“Heh, Sui Sui, didn’t I bring you a lot of Lego this time? Would you like to share your favorite Lego with the audience in the livestream later? Just show your brother and sisters what you think is fun?”
Su Wanning spoke plainly—she’d long wanted to feature some children’s products on her livestream, knowing that with Sui Sui’s influence, sales would soar if he appeared.
“No,” Sui Sui replied firmly, without hesitation.
“Why…” Su Wanning was momentarily speechless but kept a smile on her face. “Just one, okay? Five minutes? Three?”
She ended up nearly in tears, her face falling. “Not even two minutes? Just show them, and then you can play by yourself. When we go home, I’ll buy you anything you want!”
She gave her solemn promise, but Sui Sui was unmoved.
“No,” he said again, resolute, and turned back to his book.
Su Wanning pursed her lips. Ah, a high-IQ son is hard to fool—not like her dear daughter, so easy to coax.
Wait! She had never tricked Nian Nian.
After pondering for a while, Su Wanning had an idea. She left the room without a word and headed to the kitchen outside.
What she didn’t notice was that, after she left, Sui Sui looked up from his book in her direction, a hint of concern on his face.
Outside, Su Wanning started the livestream.
“Yes, I’m taking a break today. I’ll make some fruit tea for the kids.”
She set her phone on a stand and got to work, washing common fruits like oranges and apples, then slicing them.
“It’s hot here—a little fruit tea is very refreshing.”
Let’s see if this won’t win Sui Sui over!
She scooped out passionfruit seeds, added honey and a variety of other fruits.
[Go away—she’s only tantalizing us, not letting us drink.]
[How come even her simple fruit tea looks so pretty?]
Colorful fruit filled a clear glass jug. Su Wanning added ice cubes, then poured in sparkling soda water.
She picked up her phone and switched to a close-up shot.
The bubbles in the jug rose, swirling around the transparent ice and evenly cut fruit, making it look irresistibly cool.
Carrying the fruit tea and three cups, Su Wanning went back inside.
“Sui Sui, Nian Nian, come have some fruit tea!”
At her words, Nian Nian immediately put down her book and ran over.
“Wow! Mommy, you’re amazing!”
[Nian Nian is the number one supporter.]
[At this moment, Nian Nian speaks for us all.]
Su Wanning poured three cups, handing one to her daughter, even thoughtfully inserting a straw.
Sui Sui also came over slowly, glancing at Su Wanning from time to time but saying nothing.
Su Wanning offered him a cup with an ingratiating smile. “You don’t like sweet milk tea, right? Try this—it’s really refreshing. You’ll love it!”
Sui Sui silently accepted the cup and took a small sip.
[Help, after all this time, Su Wanning is still so humble in front of her son.]
[The daily life of me and my humble mother.]
[He’s so cool, I love him.]
After he’d finished half his fruit tea, Su Wanning tried again. “Do you want to play with your Lego? You can just play nearby.”
Sui Sui hesitated, but at Nian Nian’s pleading, he nodded.
“Big brother, just show us, please? Nian Nian is begging you!”
“Yes!”
Damn this sister-complex! If I’d known, I would have sent Nian Nian in from the start, Su Wanning thought.
Sui Sui opened up his Lego set, spread it out on the floor, and began to play intently. Soon, a car engine took shape under his hands.
Su Wanning posted the purchase link in the livestream and turned the camera over, explaining quietly as he played.
“When you buy, pay attention to the suitable age. Sui Sui isn’t even four yet, but he’s already playing with the adult version. Choose according to your needs.”
[So all that humble flattery was just to get Sui Sui to help her sell?]
[My boyfriend also has that car model—he spent a whole week building it!]
Just as Su Wanning had predicted, sales in the livestream soared. She introduced other daily items used by her children, like lip balm and toothbrushes.
[I’ve always wondered: since Su Wanning is so rich, why is she so serious about selling products? She seems the most dedicated of all the actresses.]
A comment caught Su Wanning’s eye.
She answered offhandedly, “Is that so hard to understand? Who ever thinks they have too much money? Besides…”
Suddenly, Su Wanning looked up at the camera, and said with grave sincerity, enunciating each word, “I am far poorer than you imagine!”
[I feel my intelligence being trampled.]
[I believe her.]
[Don’t misunderstand—her idea of poor is only having a six-figure allowance.]
“Besides, the money the kids’ dad gives me has to go to raising these two. They’re expensive! A woman must rely on herself—we have to be ready to walk away at any time, right? So let’s all perk up and go make money!”
