Chapter 96: Coming to the Rescue
A voice sounded from behind her, somewhat familiar, and Su Wanning instinctively responded and turned around.
A few steps away stood a man in a suit, tall and long-legged, the very image of a natural clothes model.
Su Wanning glanced at him, finding his handsomeness almost excessive—and vaguely familiar—yet she couldn’t recall where they might have met before. It struck her as odd to see someone dressed in a business suit at a film set; could he be an actor too?
After Su Wanning replied, she made no further move. Qin Jingchen frowned slightly, took the initiative, and walked toward her.
“I happened to be on a business trip nearby. Knowing you were filming here, I thought I’d visit the set,” he said, adding a few more words.
Only then did Su Wanning finally match the voice with the person in her memory.
“Qin Jingchen!” Su Wanning arched her brows and cried out, startling him.
“It’s me. What’s wrong, don’t you recognize me?”
Qin Jingchen asked because, truth be told, he found her almost unrecognizable.
In his memory, Su Wanning favored loud reds and purples, as if such colors could foretell a dazzling career, and she always faced him with a cold and combative expression.
But the woman before him wore a simple sweatshirt and jeans, her look casual, without makeup, her hair straight and fine rather than the usual voluminous waves.
The change was striking. Though he’d seen her like this on camera before, in person it was difficult to reconcile with the woman he remembered.
“I do… But why did you suddenly come here?” Su Wanning asked, puzzled.
Still, he was her main benefactor—the type who paid generous child support every month—so she dared not be careless. When he didn’t answer, her mind raced through possibilities.
Had he heard about her rumored affairs? That seemed unlikely; there was little emotional attachment between them, and even if he knew, it hardly warranted a special visit.
Or perhaps… he was having an affair himself?
The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed. For someone like Qin Jingchen to come all the way to a noisy set, it had to be important.
He must have a new love and wanted to divorce her, and had come in person to discuss the matter and have her sign the divorce papers, negotiate the division of assets...
The thought grew increasingly alarming. Just then, Vincent, realizing Su Wanning was missing, hurried after her. Spotting her with an unfamiliar man, he strode over, obviously annoyed.
“What are you still doing here? Getting this close to a man—aren’t things messy enough as it is?” Vincent scolded, grabbing her arm and preparing to drag her away.
“Wait—”
Her other arm was seized from behind by Qin Jingchen. Su Wanning looked back in surprise, just as Qin Jingchen, brow furrowed and exuding silent authority, addressed Vincent: “Is there a problem with her being with her lawful husband?”
Vincent froze, scrutinized Qin Jingchen, then realization dawned.
“So it’s President Qin—haven’t seen you in so long, I almost forgot what you looked like. Sorry, that was a misunderstanding, I really apologize!” Vincent apologized profusely, shooting Su Wanning a subtle look, as if to ask why she hadn’t warned him about Qin Jingchen’s arrival.
Su Wanning looked equally innocent—she hadn’t known, and couldn’t have warned him.
“Well, I’ll leave you two to talk. I’ll wait over there—don’t be long,” Vincent reminded her, before finally giving them privacy.
Su Wanning took a deep breath, but before she could speak, Qin Jingchen uttered something that nearly made her jaw drop.
“You seem like a completely different person from before.”
“...Do I?” Su Wanning replied, her smile awkward and a bit guilty.
“Yes. It’s as if the shell is the same, but inside is a brand new soul. Quite extraordinary.”
Qin Jingchen had no idea that his offhand remark had struck at the heart of her greatest secret.
At that moment, Su Wanning was gripped by fear.
So this was the legendary intimidating CEO—able to discern such an impossible truth at a glance.
What should she do?
Her mind raced. If Qin Jingchen really saw through her, would she be cast out, cut off from her children, lose the generous monthly support, and even be forced to repay her debts to him?
No! That was too terrifying. Su Wanning resolved she could never let such a thing happen.
“You—”
“Let’s get a divorce!” she interrupted him resolutely, just as Qin Jingchen was about to speak.
The words made his brow furrow deeply, the air around them growing noticeably heavier. His tone was icy: “Why?”
The assistant waiting nearby was trembling with nerves. It had been his idea for Qin Jingchen to visit, but he hadn’t expected the wife would propose divorce the moment they met. This was a disaster…
Yet Su Wanning didn’t even register Qin Jingchen’s question. She pressed on, “I won’t fight for custody of the children, but I want visitation rights every week. As for child support, you can reduce it, but you can’t cut it off entirely. And the money I owe you—I’d like to pay in installments, with less interest if possible…”
She had already laid out the entire divorce arrangement, oblivious to the increasingly grim look on Qin Jingchen’s face.
Elsewhere, the program crew was abuzz with excitement.
That day, the audience numbers in Yin Shanshan’s livestream soared to a historic high.
The director gathered everyone to introduce a new and mysterious guest.
“Let’s welcome our new guest—Fang Wei! And her seven-year-old son, Little Tian!”
A poised and elegant woman entered, holding her son’s hand. The crowd erupted in thunderous applause, and many in the livestream were moved to tears.
“Hello everyone, it’s been a long time. I’m Fang Wei, and I’m back.”
Wang Zan stood to the side, microphone in hand, her voice choked with emotion.
“As everyone knows, Fang Wei was the champion of the first season of ‘Shining Star.’ She was a sensation in her day—I remember her songs playing in every shop, and the whole nation was wild about her.”
The background music swelled with Fang Wei’s signature song, tears glistening in her eyes.
“I’m truly sorry. Years ago, I left the entertainment world to return to my family, but now I’m back, and I’ve brought with me the greatest work of my past seven years—my son, Little Tian!”
As she spoke, Fang Wei looked toward Yin Shanshan in the audience. Without her encouragement, she might never have found the courage to return.
