Chapter Ninety-Eight: The Exemplary Husband Renowned for Filial Piety
Su Wan-ning half-guided Qin Jingchen out of the room, her hand gently urging him forward. Once the door closed behind him, she quietly let out a sigh of relief.
Yet, something felt off to her. Why had he answered like that just now? It hadn't seemed like an act at all—could it be that Qin Jingchen didn't actually want a divorce? Su Wan-ning couldn't make sense of it. If divorce wasn't his goal, what reason did he have to come all this way just to visit her on set?
As Su Wan-ning puzzled over this, on the other side of the door, Qin Jingchen’s mood had brightened considerably since leaving her room. His assistant, noticing the shift, ventured to ask, “President Qin, has Madam finally calmed down?”
“Yes,” Qin Jingchen replied, lifting his chin slightly, a hint of pride in his expression, a soft huff escaping his nose.
“Wonderful! Was it my suggestion that worked? You bought her a handbag, and she forgave you?” the assistant asked eagerly.
Qin Jingchen shot him a look. “Don’t flatter yourself. Your idea was useless.”
“Ah?”
Without another word, Qin Jingchen strode off, his long legs carrying him quickly ahead. The bewildered assistant hurried after him, but just as he caught up, Qin Jingchen stopped abruptly.
“Ah!” The assistant nearly collided with Qin Jingchen’s back—a grave offense. He managed to stop himself just in time.
“She complained today that I hadn’t visited her in so long,” Qin Jingchen said, turning to look at him.
The assistant immediately understood, his face lighting up with a knowing smile. “President Qin, Madam was just acting coy with you.”
“Coy?” Qin Jingchen frowned slightly, recalling the sensation of holding her in his arms moments ago. Yes, not bad. He decided he should let her act spoiled more often in the future.
“Exactly! Madam’s upset you’ve been too busy working and haven’t been there for her. You should take some time these next few days to accompany her, care for her attentively. That’ll make her happy.”
The assistant offered his advice with utmost seriousness, and Qin Jingchen nodded in agreement. “Book me a room next to hers,” he instructed.
“Right away!”
So, the following morning, as dawn broke and her alarm roused her, Su Wan-ning opened the door to head to the set—only to find a cart parked outside, and Qin Jingchen, impeccably dressed, standing behind it.
Why hadn’t he left yet?
“What is this?” she asked, eyeing the lavish spread atop the cart with a complicated expression.
“Your breakfast.” Qin Jingchen, remembering the assistant’s advice, kept a pleasant smile on his face—though, to Su Wan-ning, it looked oddly unnatural.
He, on the other hand, took in her appearance: freshly awake, bare-faced yet radiant, her complexion well-cared for, creamy and delicate with a touch of rosy flush like the blush of an early spring peach—so inviting one almost wanted to take a bite.
“I’m heading to the set soon. I wasn’t planning to eat,” Su Wan-ning said, finding his behavior today rather strange.
“It’s still early. Skipping breakfast isn’t good for your health,” Qin Jingchen insisted, wheeling the cart into her room. Left with no choice, Su Wan-ning followed him inside.
By the floor-to-ceiling windows, Qin Jingchen began setting out the breakfast—wonton noodles, porridge, sandwiches, coffee—item after item, until the table was filled. Still, he kept unloading more from the cart.
“That’s enough, really. I can’t possibly eat all this,” she protested.
“Then I’ll eat with you,” Qin Jingchen replied cheerfully, taking a seat across from her. Seeing no polite way out, Su Wan-ning sat down, an odd feeling in her chest, and began to eat in silence.
Would someone please save her? What on earth was this man up to?
Just as she was about to ask him directly, someone knocked at the door.
“Ms. Su, could you start a livestream before heading to the set today?” someone called from outside.
Trouble, again.
Su Wan-ning went to the door and opened it, greeted first by a camera and, beside the cameraman, Vincent.
“I’m sorry, it’s not convenient today. Maybe another time,” she said with a polite smile. But Vincent stopped her with a glance.
“No, you need to start the livestream right now.”
“Hey—” Before she could refuse, the cameraman had already started the stream.
With no other option, she forced a smile. “I’m... having breakfast with my family.”
Vincent nodded. “That’s exactly what everyone wants to see—breakfast with your family.”
Their gazes met in the air, but Vincent simply smiled, ignoring her veiled threats and irritation.
“There’s no need to hide it. It’s just your brother-in-law visiting, isn’t it? Everyone’s curious about your life together. A little livestream won’t hurt, and you don’t even have to show his face if he doesn’t want to.”
Only then did Su Wan-ning realize—the viewers must have caught a glimpse yesterday and were now curious about her and Qin Jingchen’s life together.
But yesterday had all been an act!
With no way out, she retreated into the room, inviting the camera inside. She approached Qin Jingchen and explained quietly, “I have a livestreaming obligation. If you’re uncomfortable appearing, you can—”
“It’s fine, as long as you’re happy,” Qin Jingchen replied leisurely, peeling a boiled egg and placing it in her lunchbox.
“Eat a bit more. You’re too thin.”
“…”
[Oh my god, President Qin is so considerate!]
[See? No matter how domineering the CEO, he turns into a doting puppy before a beauty. I love it.]
Su Wan-ning had to lower her gaze to hide her astonishment. According to the original owner’s memories, Qin Jingchen was arrogant, fastidious, and somewhat a germaphobe. Yet now, his demeanor was completely different. She had expected him to leave the moment the livestream began, but instead, he was playing along with her.
No matter how she turned it over in her mind, she couldn’t make sense of it and could only chalk it up to the CEO’s image management.
She finished breakfast in a hurry, finally using her need to head to set as an excuse to escape, leaving all the livestream viewers and Qin Jingchen staring at each other in awkward silence.
“President Qin, since Ms. Su has left, shall I end the livestream?” the cameraman asked nervously, worried Qin Jingchen might feel awkward.
In fact, typically Su Wan-ning would leave the livestream running after she left to keep up engagement.
“No need,” Qin Jingchen replied, his expression reverting to its usual coldness without Su Wan-ning present. After a pause, he reconsidered and added, “I often watch her livestreams. The viewers are rather amusing.”
[Is President Qin complimenting us? What an honor!]
[Hello, President Qin!]
…
Barrage after barrage of greetings scrolled across the screen. Qin Jingchen smiled faintly and said, “If I remember correctly, this livestream has a red packet feature, doesn’t it? Please arrange it.”
Hearing this from behind the scenes, the assistant immediately logged on and sent out a generous red packet to everyone.
