Chapter 96: Profits Bloom in Both the Stock Market and the Spot Market
The short position in Dragon Zhang’s account was closed.
Ninety lots yielded a net gain of eighty points, three hundred and sixty thousand in profit. Not long after Sky South Technology hit its daily limit in the stock market, two good fortunes arrived at once.
Looking at the 3.36 million in the spot account, he did not hesitate. According to plan, he entered a long position of one hundred and ten lots, placed his stop loss below and his take profit above, aiming for 6,100.
...
“Damn, it’s two hundred lots now.”
“All in, just go for it.”
Even the trading desk at Huiyin had no energy left to complain. Zhang Long’s independence and aggression were on full display again, and amazingly, he kept making money. Though he had lost quite a few trades these past few days, he always cut his losses in time.
Even when he had once held through a drawdown, he turned around and added back the position right when the trend broke and fell.
Wildly impressive. Capital I, capital N, capital C, capital R, capital E, capital D, I, B, L, E.
And as for Wang Jing, as long as Zhang Long did not blow up his account, it was like picking money up off the street every day. With trading volume ranging from two to three hundred lots on light days and four to five hundred on heavy days, the commission was simply too tempting.
Where there are people, there is a world of intrigue; in the workplace, colleagues compete too, and beneath the surface the currents run deep.
Watching Wang Jing land such a big client for nothing, it would be impossible not to envy her. Some coworkers had even grown resentful, jealousy rising in their hearts.
Zhang Long traded so fiercely, but everyone could see how much Wang Jing had contributed through guidance and effort.
A few suggestions here, a few risk-control calls there, and that was basically it; she had not really exerted herself much at all.
Of course, the jealous ones were precisely those with little or no performance. Those with results could at most feel a little envy. Sometimes a person’s magnanimity rose in proportion to their performance. So what if Wang Jing earned several hundred thousand this month, or even more than a million? If Zhang Long blew up, it would all be reset to zero. None of it was real.
Only solid, tangible ability mattered: guiding the client well, so the client would keep adding funds and keep trading.
Earning several hundred thousand every month was the true path.
“Jing, what do you feel like eating?”
It was noon, and a coworker came up ingratiatingly to Wang Jing, suggesting they skip takeout and go downstairs to a restaurant instead. Build the relationship now, so next month it would be easier to borrow money, wasn’t that so?
...
“Not many bought in.”
In the office of Horizon Market Department’s director, Liang Xue and several managers were eating boxed lunches together with Qian Caiying.
Sky South Technology hitting its daily limit was good news. After all, Horizon had recommended the stock yesterday. Unfortunately, only a few people had actually bought it; most had not paid attention.
Liang Xue had paid attention, but she had only just arrived at Horizon and had very few clients. Qian Caiying had handed her some of the company’s long-dormant dead accounts, along with a few clients other teams did not want, for her to redevelop.
She had not contacted the clients from Shengxin’s side; Qian Caiying had not mentioned it, and Liang Xue said nothing either.
No rush. There was no need for it yet.
“Stimulate the clients this afternoon,” Qian Caiying said while eating. “No matter what, we did recommend Sky South Technology to them. At least it gives us a talking point and a thread of trust. Clients need both opportunities and confidence in the stock market. As long as they see that Horizon’s stock picks have a decent hit rate, they’ll definitely be tempted.”
“Once they’re tempted, they’ll act.”
Liang Xue and the other managers nodded. Using Sky South Technology, they could at least develop some performance.
Existing clients might add funds or trade again.
New clients might open a few positions too. If a few more recommended stocks rise accurately over the next period, then with steady accumulation, performance would certainly improve.
Recreating October’s flourishing prosperity.
“Manager Liang, stay a moment.”
They finished lunch quickly, but Qian Caiying stopped Liang Xue. The two women stared at each other wide-eyed.
“Call, let’s keep working hard.”
After holding each other’s gaze for a moment, Qian Caiying made sure Liang Xue understood what she meant. With that one encouraging line, she ended the matter. Yes, everything was understood without saying it.
“Uh, that’s it?”
When Liang Xue walked out of the director’s office, she could not help thinking that Qian Caiying was acting strangely; she could not figure it out.
Forget it, not important. Time for a nap.
...
“Brother Long, tonight...”
After lunch, Zhang Long answered Wang Jing’s call from Huiyin. After a brief exchange, he shook his head. “Mm, I’m not touching tonight’s news-driven market. The volatility is too fast.”
“These past few days, when I had some free time, I studied the spot market data carefully. It’s just not easy to grasp.”
“Just trade the technical side normally.”
Today was Thursday, and the spot market had the American initial jobless claims data coming out. Tomorrow night, Friday, would bring the once-a-month nonfarm payrolls report, and that volatility would be even faster and more violent, capable of swinging hundreds of points up or down in just seconds. Too wild.
No matter how quickly one traded manually, it would still be hard to catch. Only after the news-driven move cooled could one consider entering.
“Brother Long, listen to me...” Wang Jing took a deep breath. “When we trade the news, we usually use pending orders. You’ve been doing stocks all this time, so I’m sure you can understand it easily. If the news is bearish or bullish, we just place orders above and below. Otherwise, by the time the news comes out and we enter, it’s already too late.”
“Mm, I know.”
Zhang Long nodded, but still shook his head and refused. “If the pending orders get swept on both sides, it’s the same as being locked in a hedge. That’s meaningless. Better to wait until the news cools off. Anyway, that’s settled.”
“If I have an entry chance, just send me the advisory suggestion. If I can enter, I will. No need to rush me.”
With that, he hung up, very neatly.
Wang Jing had no choice but to give up pressing him. She did want Zhang Long to trade more, but if she pushed too hard and irritated him, and he complained to change analysts? That would be counterproductive. She would regret it bitterly.
For a client like Zhang Long, who traded independently and aggressively with huge volume, plenty of people had their eyes on him.
Steady technical trades were good too. A few hundred lots a day was already excellent, more than enough. She should be satisfied.
...
“Eight hundred thousand. Nice.”
Before the European session in the afternoon, spot prices rebounded once more to around the 6,100 level. The one hundred and ten lot long position was liquidated, netting another four hundred and forty thousand; adding the thirty-six thousand from before...
Making money was exhilarating, truly thrilling.
Still, these two waves had been handed to him by the market, and Huiyin’s trading suggestions today had been very accurate.
His account now held 3.8 million. Another 2.2 million in profit would accomplish the set goal: five million.
So there was nothing more to say—keep entering.
Win some, lose some. Going long in trades was no problem. As long as he did not hold losing positions and kept his stop losses in place, and asked Huiyin for suggestions when necessary, he could always make up any loss.
And so, from afternoon until night, Zhang Long’s spot entries and exits never stopped. He was playing as if flying.
Wang Jing was flying too, practically soaring into the heavens.
Although tonight’s initial jobless claims data did not cause especially large swings, once the timely trend was over, it became a matter of technical trading. As long as the consulting suggestion she sent to Zhang Long was accepted, he would enter immediately.
At the very least, he would buy half a position, or even a heavy one.
Yesterday’s four hundred and forty-five lots were already plenty, but today, by the end of the workday, the total had reached a full six hundred and fifty-five lots. Terrifying.
Even more terrifying was that Zhang Long’s account balance had reached 4.5 million. From one million activated on Monday to a net gain of 3.5 million by Thursday night—not small, not insignificant.
In Huiyin’s history, there had been clients who started by making ten million in profit, but they had begun with five million in principal.
If Zhang Long continued trading well next week and made another five million, that would be a tenfold increase on one million.
That would be terrifying enough to leave everyone stunned.
“Market open, limit up!”
A night passed without incident. At dawn the next day, when the stock market opened, Sky South Technology went straight to the daily limit. In theory, holding it over the weekend carried relatively little risk, since the outlook was strongly bullish.
But Zhang Long still sold it, while trading spot on the side and offloading several stock accounts as well.
Before the market closed in the afternoon, everything had been cleared out.
“Wow, too handsome.”
Looking at the funds in his stock accounts and the day’s spot profit, Zhang Long shamelessly praised himself with complete self-admiration. Too dashing.
Buzz, buzz...
His phone suddenly vibrated. Zhang Long picked it up and saw that it was a call from Qian Caiying. He curled the corner of his mouth and answered.
“Sweetheart, missed me?”
