Chapter 97: Acquiring Two New Superpowers
Black Yaksha vanished in an instant. Cheng Feng looked left and right in slight astonishment but caught no sight of it. It had moved far too fast to even see.
Cheng Feng furrowed his brow slightly, pondering the words Black Yaksha had left behind.
Just now, when the bloodline power had flared up, he had been unable to control it. The power Elena had left him was a double-edged sword.
While it granted tremendous strength, it also made him lose his sanity—an extremely dangerous drawback that he had only discovered today. He had come dangerously close to going berserk.
Black Yaksha's sudden appearance had genuinely helped him and defused the crisis—that much was true.
But why had it helped him? Simply on Xue Ju's account?
A blue car came driving over, slid to a stop with a drift, and the door opened. The person stepping out was none other than the late-arriving Liu Shiyu.
"Cheng Feng, are you all right?"
Cheng Feng snapped back to attention. Seeing that Liu Shiyu had arrived, he gave a slight shake of his head. "I'm fine. Why are you so late?"
"There's an event at the night market nearby tonight, so there was too much traffic on the road."
Liu Shiyu noticed that Cheng Feng's clothes were a bit dirty and disheveled, and glanced around. "Where's that killer monster?"
"It's fine. The fight's over—that monster's already been dealt with."
Cheng Feng looked ahead. There lay the blood, flesh, and organs splattered across the ground after Joyce's explosion, strewn about like cheap paint—utterly grisly.
Unfortunately, Black Yaksha had finished off that great monster, so he couldn't get his hands on its superpower. If he could kill an S-rank monster, he would gain two abilities at once through the system.
The battle at the monster auction house last time was an example—he had killed the S-rank great demon beast Black Web Spider and received two abilities.
Lost in thought for a moment, Cheng Feng stepped forward.
Before long, his sharp eyes spotted something amidst the pool of blood: a heart still beating. This stirred his attention.
Joyce really lived up to being an S-rank great monster. Even with its body blasted apart, the heart retained residual vitality and kept stubbornly beating.
In a few more minutes, however, the heart's vitality would run out and it would finally die.
This was truly an unexpected discovery.
Cheng Feng thrust out his Lightning Cutter and drove it straight through that ugly, blood-soaked heart.
[Ding! Detected host slaying of an immortal-type monster]
[Detection complete... The target slain is an S-rank demon beast werewolf]
[Two superpowers awarded]
[Awakening abilities... 30%... 50%... 80%... 100%]
[Passive skill: War God Defense +1]
[Active skill: Blood Wings +1]
Immediately, the information for the two abilities surged into Cheng Feng's mind.
[War God Defense] greatly strengthens the body's defense, making it indestructible—ordinary punches or blades cannot wound him in the least.
As a passive skill, it kept Cheng Feng permanently in a state of War God Defense.
What really made Cheng Feng's eyes light up was [Blood Wings].
This flight-type skill allowed a pair of blood wings to extend from his back, letting him fly freely.
With this, he formally possessed the ability to fly.
From then on, if he went out or was traveling, he could simply fly to his destination quickly whenever he wanted—no need for inconvenient things like vehicles.
Having often worked alongside Cheng Feng, Liu Shiyu could roughly guess that he gained benefits from killing monsters.
Seeing Cheng Feng inexplicably walk up and stab the heart, Liu Shiyu watched quietly from the side.
After a moment, she asked in astonishment, "Cheng Feng, after every mission, you gain a new ability. I have a feeling you can awaken new superpowers just by killing monsters, can't you?"
She had already suspected this last time at the promotion tournament in the sports center, when she watched Cheng Feng display new abilities during his matches.
Even though the idea that killing monsters grants new abilities was far-fetched, Liu Shiyu couldn't think of any other explanation at the moment.
Cheng Feng was taken aback. Thinking it over, he really hadn't done much to hide it—mainly because after every operation, he gained a new ability.
On this point, Liu Shiyu often worked with him, so it would have been impossible to keep it from her. A golden finger like this was essentially a cheat, and the fewer people who knew about it, the better.
But Liu Shiyu was an exception—someone he could trust. Since she had clearly noticed, brushing her off with some random excuse would be far too distant and ungracious.
After a moment's thought, Cheng Feng withdrew his Lightning Cutter, looked at Liu Shiyu, and admitted, "That's right. Sorry I never told you about it."
"So it's really true?" Liu Shiyu was somewhat shocked. "That's incredible."
If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes and heard it from his own mouth, she would never have believed something so bizarre and miraculous.
If one killed hundreds or even thousands of monsters and amassed countless superpowers in a single body, just what level would one's combat strength soar to?
Perhaps one could even step into the ranks of ace-level strength...
"Mm, but don't tell anyone else about this."
Cheng Feng dismissed his Lightning Cutter. "Since the mission is done, let's head back."
"Okay."
As for the scene, dedicated follow-up security personnel would soon arrive to handle it.
...
At Cheng Feng's home, Xue Ju was waiting for him to return.
Earlier, during the fight with the assassin Joyce, Cheng Feng had told Xue Ju to leave first, since the monster had come for her.
Xue Ju hadn't run away. Instead, relying on her bone necklace, she finally located the Black Yaksha she had searched for so long—it was at the Cat Maid Café.
The task Princess Guilingyuan had given her was to find Black Yaksha in Donglin City.
And to tell Black Yaksha about the current coup in Crimson Moon City, hoping it would return and help overthrow the Ghost Shura from the throne.
Having finally found Black Yaksha's whereabouts, Xue Ju was extremely excited, but Cheng Feng's situation was dangerous, and Joyce was very strong.
At the time, upon seeing her old friend Mao Xiaoju at the entrance, she had asked her to have the shop owner go rescue Cheng Feng.
As for herself, she could only go home first and wait for news of Cheng Feng.
Fortunately, Cheng Feng returned quickly and looked completely unharmed.
Xue Ju stepped forward happily. "Cheng Feng, thank goodness, you're all right."
Cheng Feng asked, "Since you found Black Yaksha, did you tell it about Crimson Moon City?"
"No," Xue Ju explained. "I asked it for help right away to save you first. As for Crimson Moon City—now that we know where it lives, can't we just go over together tomorrow?"
Go together?
Cheng Feng frowned, hesitating for a moment. When Black Yaksha had left tonight, it had said it hoped he would also come tomorrow.
It seemed the shop owner also had something to say to him.
"All right, I'll go with you tomorrow."
The fourth Abyss Dweller had been hiding in Donglin City for ten years. If news of this got out, it would certainly cause a huge sensation.
Yet what few people knew was that the Supernatural Disaster Association had already discovered Black Yaksha's location and was preparing to take action.
