Chapter Thirty-One: Let Me Introduce My Sister to You
Watching Cheng Feng close the door with cold indifference, paying no heed to its fate, the little cat demon felt deeply saddened.
Sorry, human.
I still have a mission to fulfill, I must survive, and I can only seek shelter here.
With these silent thoughts, the white kitten fixed its sapphire eyes on the half-open window, crouched low, then leapt, turning into a blur of white as it slipped inside.
The next morning.
A gentle beam of dawn streamed through the gap in the curtains, scattering golden patches of light across the room.
When Cheng Feng awoke, he didn’t notice the window was left ajar; had he looked, he would have found a few strands of snowy fur lying by the sill.
Just out of bed, he saw his phone glowing on the bedside table. Picking it up, he found a message in his social app from Liu Shiyu, asking him to come to the Lightspeed Sword Hall.
At this hour—what business could there be at the training ground?
Could it be that my personal spiritual artifact has finally arrived?
That thought sparked a light in Cheng Feng’s eyes.
He washed up quickly, ate some bread and drank a bottle of milk, then hopped onto his motorcycle and set off.
Before leaving, he glanced around outside the door, but saw no trace of the white kitten.
It seemed his heartless words last night had indeed convinced her to leave.
Meanwhile, faint snoring sounds came from inside the wardrobe.
Had one peered inside, they would have seen a fluffy creature curled up into a ball.
The little white cat slept soundly and sweetly, a contented hum vibrating in its throat.
It appeared to be dreaming, for every now and then its pink tongue darted out to lick its lips.
Vroom, vroom!
Morning summer winds brushed against him as Cheng Feng sped down the street, twisting the throttle, the motorcycle roaring with power amidst the bustling crowds.
Suddenly, he realized it wasn’t proper to always show up to the Sword Hall empty-handed.
His improved abilities were owed to Teacher Yan Ruying’s grueling training.
Each time he went to the training ground, she spent the whole day accompanying his practice; from a social standpoint, he ought to buy something to show his appreciation.
Turning the handlebars, Cheng Feng stopped by the nearest 24-hour supermarket.
It was a workday, and the store wasn’t crowded. He skipped the shopping cart, grabbed a basket, intending only a simple purchase.
First, he headed to the cigarette aisle.
Yan Ruying, though a woman, seemed to have a military background and enjoyed smoking.
Once, during a break in training, Cheng Feng saw her pull out a pack, and couldn’t help chiding, “Why would a woman smoke?”
“Kid, what do you know? I get irritable easily, and only feel better when I’m smoking.”
That was Yan Ruying’s reply. Though simple, it made Cheng Feng realize it was a sensitive topic, so he didn’t press further.
Passing by the snack aisle, he spotted a boy of about ten bouncing on tiptoe, trying desperately to reach a bag of chips on the shelf, looking quite frantic.
Cheng Feng kindly walked over, “Hey there, need some help?”
The boy looked at Cheng Feng and nodded.
Cheng Feng reached up and handed him the bag of chips.
The boy accepted it gratefully, gazing up at Cheng Feng, “Thank you, big brother.”
Cheng Feng smiled, about to depart quietly.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps approaching, followed by a familiar girl’s voice, tinged with seriousness.
“Xiao Liang, why did you run off like that? Didn’t I tell you not to wander in the supermarket?”
“Big sister!” The boy, called Xiao Liang, ran toward a ponytailed girl.
Cheng Feng, about to leave, glanced back and caught sight of the girl’s delicate features, clad in the blue-and-white uniform skirt of Qingye First High.
Their eyes met.
“Cheng Feng?” She blinked, as if confirming she wasn’t mistaken.
“Xia Qingyao?” Cheng Feng’s response was a frown.
He’d just come to the supermarket on a whim, and coincidentally encountered the class monitor, the one renowned for meddling in others’ affairs.
If Xia Qingyao were a character in an anime, she’d no doubt be the disciplinary committee member.
For Cheng Feng, this responsible girl was anything but agreeable.
The original owner’s frequent fights at school had left Xia Qingyao with a poor impression, hoping to reform his bad habits.
Xia Qingyao bent down, patted her cousin’s head, and looked at Cheng Feng. “Why are you with my cousin, did you bully him?”
Cheng Feng frowned at her words, gave a chilly laugh. “That’s prejudice, Monitor. No matter how unruly I am, I wouldn’t bully kids. Ask him yourself.”
“Big sister, this big brother is a good person.”
Seeing Xia Qingyao’s gaze, the boy spoke up. “I couldn’t reach the chips just now, and this big brother helped me get them. For free, didn’t even cost me anything.”
“I see…” Xia Qingyao pursed her lips, realizing her mistake.
“Big sister, big brother, are you classmates?” The boy looked curiously between them.
Cheng Feng didn’t answer, knowing Xia Qingyao would. As expected, she nodded lightly.
“Big brother, what do you think about my sister?”
The boy grinned at Cheng Feng. “Since you helped me, I can introduce my sister to you.”
Xia Qingyao’s cheeks flushed, and she whispered a reprimand, “Xiao Liang, don’t say such things.”
Cheng Feng originally had no interest, but unexpectedly, it was the first time he’d seen the monitor so flustered.
His interest piqued. “Sure. If thanks to you, I really end up with the monitor, I’ll take you to the amusement park every week.”
Usually, he could never get the upper hand with the monitor in class; now, finally, a chance to tease her—he had to seize it.
“Cheng Feng, you too?” Xia Qingyao was annoyed. She knew it was a joke, but her cousin was already incorrigible—now Cheng Feng was joining in.
“What’s wrong, don’t want to?” Cheng Feng smiled.
After a moment’s hesitation, Xia Qingyao replied coldly, “School rules prohibit student dating, remember?”
Cheng Feng grinned, spreading his hands. “But this isn’t school.”
“Still, you shouldn’t joke about such things!”
“Who says I’m joking?”
At that moment, an aunt pushing a shopping cart happened by, glanced at them, and chuckled, “Ah, the young couple is quarreling.”
This made Xia Qingyao even more embarrassed. She wanted to clarify, but the aunt had already walked away.
“Big sister, think about it. Big brother is such a good person, and you look so well together—it’s a perfect match, really.”
The boy, excited by the promise of amusement park visits, shook Xia Qingyao’s arm, eager to matchmake.
“Exactly, Monitor. Or do you think you’re not good enough for me?” Cheng Feng enjoyed seeing her troubled expression. “No worries, I don’t mind.”
“Cheng Feng, don’t teach my cousin bad things!”
Xia Qingyao’s face burned, biting her lower lip, she scooped up the boy and turned to leave without another word.
Today’s contest: Xia Qingyao defeated.
Having successfully flustered the monitor, Cheng Feng felt quite pleased. He wandered to the fruit section, picked out some fruit, and bagged it.
He rode to the Lightspeed Sword Hall, locked his bike, and carried two shopping bags into the training ground.
Inside, students were practicing. Cheng Feng spotted Liu Shiyu, waiting patiently for him.
Liu Shiyu saw him arrive.
“Cheng Feng, I brought the spiritual artifact you requested.”
