Chapter Eighty-Four: The Campaign Against the Abyssal One
Headquarters of the Supernatural Disaster Association, main office building.
On this day, the intelligence staff brought back explosive news: the whereabouts of an Abyssal Being had been discovered.
The cataclysm-class monster, missing for ten years, had once again surfaced in humanity’s sight. For the Disaster Association, this was an astonishing revelation.
Upon hearing news of the ‘Abyssal Being,’ the upper echelons immediately convened an emergency meeting and launched a comprehensive campaign.
“We must deliberate carefully regarding this operation to confront the Abyssal Being.”
“This mission cannot fail. If it does, humanity will lose faith in the Association's combat strength, and that would be a grave consequence!”
“That’s right. The terror of the Abyssal Being is well-known. No one could have forgotten the catastrophe from ten years ago.”
“My suggestion is to deploy at least a hundred Demon Hunters, with no fewer than five elite members, to encircle the Abyssal Being.”
“I think you overestimate the Abyssal Being. This operation requires only our Chief Ace, Xinghe Chu. He alone is enough to handle it.”
In the conference room, the Association’s leaders and President Lu Qinghai debated fiercely, each holding different opinions.
The discussion was solemn, nearly two hours passed before a consensus was reached.
Once the meeting ended and everyone departed, only Lu Qinghai, the elderly president, remained.
As the head of the Association, Lu Qinghai bore the heaviest pressure regarding this mission.
This was an operation that could not fail, and the Abyssal Being’s strength… only Ace-level combat power could hope to match it, and even then, victory was not guaranteed.
Lu Qinghai rose wearily from his chair and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the bustling, beautiful city below.
His secretary approached, her tailored suit accentuating her figure as she moved, exuding a subtle allure.
“President, have we found the Abyssal Being?”
“Yes, after ten years, the fourth Abyssal Being, ‘Tyrant’ Black Yaksha… its location has been discovered.”
Lu Qinghai’s expression was grave: “The news came from Bai Ming Lu, who commissioned the intelligence staff to notify headquarters.”
“Bai Ming Lu…”
The secretary adjusted her glasses. “President, I’ve always felt Bai Ming Lu is too powerful. At such a young age, he’s already the second Ace, and his background remains unclear. Is he truly trustworthy?”
Lu Qinghai glanced at her. “Are you not aware of how much he’s done for humanity? Speculating like this borders on conspiracy.”
The secretary lowered her head slightly. “Sorry, I was overthinking.”
“No matter.”
Lu Qinghai sighed. “Right now, the focus is on Black Yaksha. To think he’s been hiding in an upscale maid café in Donglin City all these years, unnoticed… it’s truly chilling.”
“Fortunately, Bai Ming Lu tracked him down.”
“No matter the cost, this operation must succeed.”
There was good reason for viewing Abyssal Beings as such a threat.
Monsters emerged without scientific explanation, and humanity had bravely resisted for centuries.
But the cataclysm-class Abyssal Beings, when they appeared ten years ago, left humanity with a heavy shadow—a terror and despair that could only be understood by those who lived through it.
Thousands of Demon Hunters, tens of thousands of soldiers, and the only Ace at the time could not withstand the arrival of the four Abyssal Beings.
Regardless of the firepower deployed, even destructive weapons like nuclear bombs, humanity could not defeat these terrifying monsters.
The truly chilling part was that, fortunately, the Abyssal Beings had no desire to destroy humanity; otherwise, civilization in this country might have vanished a decade ago.
On the surface, society across the world appeared peaceful and harmonious.
In truth, there was deep anxiety and dread surrounding the existence of the five Abyssal Beings.
Though the Disaster Association’s armed strength had grown far beyond what it was ten years ago, and they now possessed three Aces, there was still not enough confidence to defeat the five Abyssal Beings.
Now, having finally located one in Donglin City, it was imperative to eliminate it.
To give humanity peace of mind, and to prove that the Association now had the power to overcome the Abyssal Beings.
If this operation went smoothly… it would mark a great leap forward in the struggle between humanity and monsters.
…
In the apartment, a man and a cat were eating together.
Cheng Feng was hunched over his meal, and he had to admit that Xue Ju’s cooking was quite good—she seemed very skilled.
As for Xue Ju’s origins, he remembered she was a monster from Scarlet Moon City, who, for some reason, had traveled all the way to Donglin City searching for someone.
She had been pursued by monsters from Scarlet Moon City and was now hiding in his place—the previous incident with the ghoul was a case in point.
It seemed things had settled down.
He had been busy with competition matters lately, gradually forgetting about her predicament.
Cheng Feng put down his chopsticks, deciding it was time to clarify things.
“By the way, how did you end up leaving Scarlet Moon City for Donglin City? What happened there?”
“Ah…”
Xue Ju’s appetite vanished as she recalled, “Something major happened in Scarlet Moon City. I came seeking help.”
“Something happened?”
Cheng Feng was puzzled; he had looked up information on the monster nation of Scarlet Moon City.
Scarlet Moon City belonged to the third Abyssal Being, ‘Nine-Tailed Fox’ Yuko Yuki. Her power was indisputable, having ruled the city alone for a hundred years, with none daring to challenge her.
How could anything go wrong with such a queen in charge?
Xue Ju spoke softly, “Queen Yuko has disappeared… rumors everywhere say she’s dead.”
Cheng Feng’s brow furrowed, quietly listening as Xue Ju continued.
“No one knows why the queen vanished, but the throne cannot remain empty. The princess was supposed to succeed…”
“Princess? Yuko Yuki has a daughter?” Cheng Feng was surprised by this revelation.
“Yes, I have always served at the princess’s side.”
Xue Ju lost her appetite. “But the princess did not inherit the throne. It was seized by Lord Oni. To gain authority, he intends to wage war against humanity, mobilizing the entire nation to invade Donglin City.”
“What? That Oni Lord is so audacious?”
Cheng Feng was stunned. “He took the throne from your princess and now wants to start a war?”
Xue Ju nodded sadly. “The princess opposed war with humanity, so Lord Oni imprisoned her.”
“The princess entrusted me with a mission, found a way to send me out of Scarlet Moon City, but the news leaked, and Oni’s pursuers followed me.”
The ghoul who attacked Cheng Feng before was one of those pursuers.
Cheng Feng understood now. “So, the princess sent you out to find someone—a person who can help you?”
“Exactly.”
“Who is it?” Cheng Feng was curious who could change Scarlet Moon City’s fate.
“The person I was sent to find is Queen Yuko’s old friend…”
Xue Ju whispered that name, a title that had struck fear in countless hearts: “The former fourth Abyssal Being, ‘Tyrant’ Black Yaksha!”
