Chapter 111: The Frozen Ancient Dragon
The shopkeeper stared at the Ice Scorpion trapped within the pillar of ultimate ice. Yu He swung his blade horizontally, and the ice pillar trembled slightly before a slender crack appeared—small but distinct.
“If the ice pillar formed by Ultimate Ice were so easily broken, it wouldn’t be used to imprison these spirit beasts. If you wish to shatter this pillar, then you must unleash the true power worthy of claiming this Ice Scorpion,” said Xiao Bai, the Ice Bear King.
At Xiao Bai’s words, the shopkeeper’s first and second soul rings glimmered, and Yu He transformed into a pale purple Rock Spirit. With a mighty slash, the crack in the ice pillar immediately widened more than twofold.
“You must break it faster. Though this pillar wasn’t created by the Snow Emperor, it still possesses a certain restorative power. If too much time passes, it will begin to mend itself. So please, hurry and break through the ice,” Xiao Bai advised.
The shopkeeper understood. Yet, the previous strike had already consumed nearly half of his soul power. If he continued attacking with that same intensity, it would take seven or eight more strikes to break the pillar, and he simply did not have enough soul power. After some thought, he instructed Xiao Bai to bring more spirit beast meat, while he delivered two more strikes at the previous strength, conserving some soul power for himself.
When Xiao Bai returned with the carcasses of soul beasts, the shopkeeper immediately began consuming the meat. Just as he had hoped, although the flavor was not particularly pleasant, the meat effectively restored his soul power. Unlike animals in the Ghoul World, which cannot be consumed directly due to a lack of sufficient RC cells, soul beasts in Douluo Continent, though also lacking RC cells, possess soul power. This soul power can substitute for RC cells, replenishing the consumer’s energy. Now, the shopkeeper had hope of breaking through the ice pillar...
Meanwhile, Mu Yang and the Snow Emperor ventured deeper into the ice prison, where countless spirit beasts were frozen within towering ice pillars.
“Sister, did you freeze all these spirit beasts?” Mu Yang asked.
“Only the stronger ones were frozen by me. For those weaker, even older spirit beasts can be imprisoned in ice,” she answered.
“Do you know about all these frozen spirit beasts, Sister?”
“Except for the one at the very center of the ice prison, all the others were frozen during my time. That one can no longer be called a mere spirit beast; it is more fittingly a demigod beast. It was frozen by the Ice God’s power. Its heavenly tribulation has been suppressed by the ice pillar, but once it leaves the pillar, the accumulated tribulation will strike all at once. This demigod beast has accumulated at least seven hundred thousand years’ worth of tribulation.”
“Furthermore, because it does not undergo its tribulation inside the ice pillar, its strength does not increase with time. It remains stuck at the level before the tribulation, then must face the tribulation all at once upon emergence. Even if it survives being unfrozen, it will perish because of the tribulation.”
“Snow Emperor, once you finish selecting your soul ring, can you take me to see that demigod beast?”
“That’s no problem. It’s either frozen forever or dead,” the Snow Emperor replied.
The Snow Emperor had chosen a soul ring—a snow demon that had been locked away in the ice prison for devouring many of its own kind to increase its power.
After absorbing the soul ring, the Snow Emperor led the way to the prison’s depths, where the demigod beast lay.
Classified as a dragon, this demigod beast was not a Western dragon, but an ancient Eastern dragon. Its ice-blue body bore four claws, and it had been frozen not while resting coiled upon the ground, but mid-flight, soaring toward the heavens.
Upon seeing this ancient dragon, the system’s voice sounded once more...
