Chapter 29. Evil Thoughts and Good Intentions
After Mu Yang saw the message sent by the system, he was so frustrated he wanted to curse out loud. His main ability was the poison mist, but upon arriving in this world, the system had immediately sealed that power. What infuriated him even more was that he hadn't been told about this restriction before setting out. Now, all he could use was the Tang Blade (Heart of Man).
With a flash from his spatial ring, the Tang Blade (Heart of Man) appeared in Mu Yang’s hand.
“So, you’re my master? You seem so weak,” the Tang Blade (Heart of Man) suddenly spoke, its voice now clear and precise, no longer the muddled speech it once had.
Previously, although Mu Yang had been able to communicate with the Tang Blade (Heart of Man), its words had been so confused that he could barely understand what it was saying. As a result, he hadn't paid much attention to it. But now, it possessed clarity and reason.
Mu Yang hurriedly asked the system what was going on, but it was the Tang Blade (Heart of Man) that answered him.
“Foolish master, in the original world, there wasn’t enough of the necessary essence for me to possess true intelligence. That’s why I could only exist in a vague, muddled state. If you hadn’t enhanced me, I wouldn’t even have had that much awareness. But this world is different. Every corner here is saturated with the essence I need. The conditions for my awakening have been met, so here I am,” the Tang Blade (Heart of Man) explained with a look of clear disdain.
Mu Yang immediately asked, “What is this essence that allows you to awaken intelligence? Why was there so little of it in the Douluo world, but so much here?”
“It’s not some particularly rare thing. It’s simply the purest forms of good and evil thoughts. In the original world, pure good was almost nonexistent, and there was only a little evil, not much at all. The population there didn’t even reach a thousand, which is remarkable in itself. But here, evil thoughts are countless. Those creatures before you are nearly all filled with them. Even more astonishing, that girl at the very top possesses the world’s purest good,” the Tang Blade’s spirit said with a sense of wonder.
Mu Yang ignored the crowd around the altar, focusing solely on handling the Tang Blade (Heart of Man).
“Are the ancient humans really the saviors of this world?” shouted a member of the Bloodkin from below the altar. (Note: In this world, the Bloodkin and vampires are not the same species, though they are very similar.)
The Bloodkin’s question interrupted Mu Yang’s conversation with the Tang Blade (Heart of Man). Mu Yang frowned, but he was more curious about what the Bloodkin meant by “savior.”
“What do you mean by the savior of the world?” Mu Yang asked.
The Bloodkin explained the basic structure of this world to him: its creatures were divided into six types—Bloodkin, Undead, Vampires, Beastmen, Taeling, and Outlanders.
Taeling were the most common beings here, while Outlanders were those born with two or more racial traits due to their mixed parentage.
The world was ruled by four major organizations, ranked by power: the Empire, the Academy, the Church, and the Adventurers’ Guild.
The upper echelons of the Empire were almost entirely Bloodkin and Vampires, who governed the majority of the Taeling.
The Academy was founded by the Undead, specializing in the creation of strange and wondrous devices.
The Church existed to control the Taeling, offering them spiritual solace; it was primarily composed of Outlanders.
The Adventurers’ Guild was established by the Beastmen, tasked with exploring unusual places.
There were many smaller groups, but all were subordinate to these four great organizations.
However, three years ago, the Undead of the Academy discovered some kind of earth-shattering secret. Almost all of them broke away from the Empire and launched an assault against it. After encountering the Undead, the majority of the Church’s Outlanders also joined the ranks of the rebellion...
