Chapter 75: The Competition in Progress
On the competition stage, Muyang and Mica had already been pushed to the edge. The face of the Heaven Fiend Douluo was cold and hard, devoid of any expression. With a wave of his palm, he shouted, “Begin.”
Mica was a level five soul engineer. Though not the strongest in the Tomorrow Team, this time he had brought three level six Repulsion Halos. While only level six, if one approached the edge even slightly, activating three level six Repulsion Halos in succession could still push an opponent off the stage.
Had Mica brought level seven Repulsion Halos, he might have been able to push Muyang off right at the start. However, among soul devices that consume soul power, the Repulsion Halo, though not the most taxing, still consumes as much as over a dozen shots of soul rays of the same level. After using three level six Repulsion Halos consecutively, Mica was already struggling. If he had brought level seven, he might have only managed two uses before his soul power was exhausted and he collapsed from overexertion.
At the shout announcing the start, Mica immediately revealed his capabilities. Amid a series of metallic clanks, a great number of soul devices affixed themselves to his body.
As Muyang attempted to use his second soul skill, Sense Suppression, to mark his opponent, he was suddenly assailed by a burst of audio interference. His mind reeled, nausea surged, and he felt compelled to vomit, breaking his soul skill’s activation.
This was one of the weapons of the Tomorrow Team, and its effect was formidable. It interfered with a soul master’s control over their soul power using sound, and most importantly, it required no soul power to operate.
There were drawbacks, of course. Both friend and foe could be affected by the audio, but as long as one had adapted to it in advance, its effectiveness would be greatly diminished.
Mica had a thick cannon barrel mounted on each arm. Seizing the opportunity, he raised his right arm and fired a shell at Muyang.
By the time Muyang regained his senses, the orange shell was already halfway to him. Without thinking, he activated the simplified version of the Dustfall Shield, and the red soul barrier blocked the explosion of the shell.
“Bang!” Justice fired directly ahead. Seeing Justice fire, Mica activated the flight soul devices on his back and sides at full power, narrowly dodging the shot.
“Bang!” Bribery fired again. Mica twisted his body, dodging the bulk of the attack. One could say his control over the flight soul devices was highly skilled, but he was still grazed. The struck section of his armor was instantly shredded, nearly damaging the bone beneath.
“Bang!” Justice fired once more, and Mica again dodged by activating his flight soul device.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!…” As soon as Justice finished firing, Bribery followed up with a second shot, and as soon as Bribery finished, Justice continued. This relentless rhythm forced Mica into constant evasion. Though he launched counterattacks with his own soul devices, they were of little effect, all blocked by the simplified Dustfall Shield.
Step by step, Muyang pressed closer, driving Mica toward the edge. As Muyang drew nearest the boundary, suddenly Justice and Bribery both failed to fire, just as before. Mica seized the chance to dash behind Muyang and activated three Repulsion Halos in succession, forcing Muyang out of the arena. Soaring through the air, Mica was already fantasizing about the rewards that awaited him upon his return to the academy.
Yet what happened next brutally shattered Mica’s illusions. From behind Muyang, where there had been nothing, a flight soul device suddenly emerged. Muyang looked at Mica with a mocking gaze, as though he found Mica’s actions utterly laughable.
“I’m quite curious—do you assume that if I haven’t used something, I simply don’t possess it? The soul barrier, the soul devices, and now it’s the flight soul device’s turn.” Muyang spoke.
Justice and Bribery fired simultaneously. Having just used three level six Repulsion Halos in a row, Mica was completely depleted of soul power and surrendered on the spot. Heaven Fiend Douluo teleported over, trying to block the bullets, but at that moment, he sensed the terrifying power behind Muyang’s attack.
When the bullets struck, the sheer force became apparent. Though he managed to intercept most of them, several still slipped through, hitting Mica…
