I've refined Gengar’s storyline a bit; it should flow more smoothly now—see Chapter 51 for details.

As for Roserade’s evolution, Grass-type Pokémon really do grow at a rapid pace, and the protagonist currently needs a Pokémon capable of holding its own on the field, so that’s why it has arrived. Later on, Axew’s growth rate won’t be nearly as fast.

Regarding abilities and moves, the protagonist will be able to modify them with his own ingenuity down the line. However, he won’t make drastic changes to base stats—he still wants to experience the authentic, original process of growing stronger together with his Pokémon.

For example, he might later ask his Pokémon: “Would you like a different color?” And then, after changing them to their Shiny form, the Pokémon would stand in front of a mirror, looking at itself, thinking: “Hu Yang took me to Metesbonwei, bought me a whole bunch of clothes and shoes, and now, when I look in the mirror, I can’t even recognize the Pokémon staring back at me.” (laughs)

Feel free to share your suggestions or point out any errors (I’ll make corrections accordingly).

A new feature has been added to Oricorio’s move set: its moves now change in power and scale depending on the environment and the protagonist’s intentions. For instance, if they’re on a ship and the protagonist instinctively doesn’t want to cause any damage, Oricorio will use a move with just enough power to guarantee victory in a single strike, making it seem much less impressive. Its maximum power, of course, is on par with those invincible legendary Pokémon.

Thank you all for enjoying this book.
