Chapter Forty-Three: A Sudden Attack
Even if a bullet tried to pierce this twenty-centimeter-thick mattress, it would take a great deal of effort!
“It’s alright now, Xiaoxue, it’s alright. Don’t worry!” Xiao Ye walked over and pulled Qin Xue’er into his arms. Thankfully, she was unharmed.
“Xiao Ye, I… I’m scared!” Qin Xue’er had once lived a life worse than death, but now she no longer wished to die. She had found a reason to live. That yearning for survival made her rediscover what it meant to feel fear.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of every last one of them!” A cold gleam flashed through Xiao Ye’s eyes as he quickly surveyed the room. Then he rushed out and switched off the light.
The room plunged into darkness. Outside, the gunfire continued for a brief moment before abruptly ceasing.
“Hurry up and go in! See if they’re dead. We can’t afford any interference with the mission!” An angry command sounded from outside. Immediately, seven or eight heavily armed men entered, guns raised, alert to every corner, tense and wary of anyone lurking in the shadows.
“Where is he? Did we take out the Renegade Lord?”
“No one’s here. Everyone’s gone!”
“Reporting in—there’s blood here. Someone went into this room. Should we check inside?”
Voices rose in succession. Soon, someone noticed the blood on the floor—Xiao Ye had been grazed on the arm by a bullet as he burst in earlier.
“What are you waiting for? Of course we go in! This mission is for the survival of the Jianghai Trade Alliance. If the Renegade Lord isn’t dead, we’ll all be buried with him! No one retreats until the task is done!”
These men were the elite squads trained by the Jianghai Trade Alliance for such emergencies. At their leader’s command, the rest immediately split up, covering each other as they advanced into the room.
But just as they were about to search for their targets, several cold flashes suddenly flickered before their eyes.
Squelch! Squelch!
In almost an instant, the throats of the men guarding the door were slashed open by shards of glass.
Blood spurted forth like a fountain!
Cough… cough!
Clutching their throats, the men’s eyes filled with disbelief. As the last of their blood drained away, they collapsed thunderously to the floor.
“Ah!”
The gruesome scene terrified the lone surviving squad leader. He raised his gun without hesitation and began firing wildly into the darkness beyond the doorway.
“You bastards! Die for me!”
As the muzzle flared, his eyes grew bloodshot. But the next moment, with a harsh click, his gun fell silent—out of bullets. A figure emerged slowly from the darkness.
“There are no more bullets in your gun, are there?”
Xiao Ye’s voice, cold as ice, echoed through the room.
The next second, his face grim, he appeared within the squad leader’s field of vision, sending chills down the man’s spine.
Instinctively, the squad leader reached for the magazine at his belt. But how could Xiao Ye give him the chance?
In a flash, a dark shadow swept in front of the squad leader.
The sound of bones grinding filled the air—within less than a second, both the man’s arms were twisted into grotesque angles.
“My hands!”
Pain drained the color from the squad leader’s face. Before him stood a man with a murderous aura etched into his features.
“Tell me, how do you want to die?”
At these words, cold sweat broke out across the squad leader’s back. Xiao Ye’s expression was blank, but the killing intent radiating from him threatened to suffocate any who approached.
Uncontrollably, the squad leader’s legs began to tremble, and a sudden warmth dampened his trousers.
“My lord… Renegade Lord, this has nothing to do with me! I was only following Vice Chairman Cheng’s orders!”
His quivering voice betrayed his terror, his heart pounding as a look of despair filled his eyes.
“Oh? Carrying out orders?”
A cold sneer curled Xiao Ye’s lips, his murderous intent undisguised.
“The Jianghai Trade Alliance dares so much—to hoard weapons in secret, organize a force to attack me?”
The squad leader’s body shuddered violently. Suddenly, a shard of glass pierced up through his jaw, nailing his tongue to the roof of his mouth.
Muffled cries of pain erupted from his bloodied lips as he collapsed, writhing in agony. The torment in his mouth was unbearable, but with both arms broken, he could not pull the glass from his throat.
Xiao Ye’s expression remained unchanged as the man’s pitiful moans filled the air.
Just then, more figures burst into the room, immediately drawing Xiao Ye’s attention.
As Chilong stepped through the doorway and took in the carnage, a wave of dread surged within him.
“Your subordinate deserves death for failing to return in time to protect you, Lord Xiao. Please forgive me!”
Originally, Xiao Ye was to meet Chilong, but upon hearing of the attack on Xiao Ye’s home, Chilong had rushed back at once. Yet, he was still too late.
Cold sweat beaded on Chilong’s brow as he bowed his head, for the murderous aura radiating from Xiao Ye was so intense that an ordinary person would have been crushed by the pressure.
Nevertheless, Xiao Ye did not blame Chilong. His gaze shifted to the door, a fierce light flashing in his eyes.
If before was not the best chance to settle accounts with the Huangfu family, now was the perfect moment to bring Jianghai City under his control.
“Leave some men here to tend to the wounded. The rest, follow me—we’re going to wipe out the Huangfu family!”
“Yes, sir!”
At Xiao Ye’s command, a storm began to brew across Jianghai City.
Through Chilong’s coordination, a thousand-strong Death God squad assembled and set out for the Huangfu estate.
That day, Xiao Ye’s killing intent reached its zenith—no one from the Huangfu family was to be spared!
But when the Death God squad arrived at the Huangfu mansion, something unexpected had occurred.
Before Xiao Ye arrived, his team had already taken action.
Almost every member of the Huangfu family had been subdued, except for two: the family head, Huangfu Tian, and Cheng Hu, who had gone there earlier.
At that very moment, on a main road leading out of Jianghai City, a luxurious sedan sped away.
Inside sat the two most important figures—Huangfu Tian and Cheng Hu.
