VIP Volume, Chapter 130: The Scene at Great King Village
When they got home, Guan Ling looked at the car parked by the door and asked Ye Xiaoxuan, “Are you driving, or am I riding?”
Ye Xiaoxuan patted his chest. “I’m driving!”
Along the dirt road leading into the countryside, Guan Ling grumpily clung to the rear rack of the motorcycle—the place where the top box had once been mounted.
Her body bounced up and down with every pothole in the road, and she was so furious that her tiny pout could have held an oil flask.
“You cheapskate! You said you were driving, but it turns out you meant riding my motorcycle!”
Ye Xiaoxuan was secretly delighted. Riding a motorcycle along the village roads was practically a divine pleasure. Of course, the prerequisite was having a beautiful woman riding pillion.
With every jolt, the stubborn little hills rising from the young policewoman’s chest pressed hard against Ye Xiaoxuan’s back.
In the height of summer, there was no need to wear many layers. A single shirt could not possibly block the surging pressure, and Ye Xiaoxuan was so pleased that bubbles seemed ready to come from his mouth. Every hair on his body stood on end with pleasure.
Whenever he saw a pothole, he steered straight toward it. The rougher the road, the harder he twisted the throttle. Every now and then, he even slammed on the brakes. He guessed that by the time the girl returned home that evening, her breasts would be swollen from all the jostling.
Guan Ling’s hands, which had initially been behind her, moved around to his front and clutched tightly at his clothes.
Ye Xiaoxuan turned his head and shouted, “Hold on tighter! We need to hurry, or we won’t finish looking around before dark!”
Guan Ling was about to refuse, but Ye Xiaoxuan opened the throttle. With a thunderous roar, the motorcycle shot far ahead, nearly throwing her off. She let out a frightened cry and wrapped both arms tightly around his waist.
Among the sisters, this girl was the tallest and had a sturdy build. It seemed the little policewoman exercised quite regularly; she kept herself in excellent shape.
If she had one shortcoming compared with the other sisters, it was that her skin was not quite as fair. That was only apparent when she stood beside the other three, though. She could hardly be called dark—her complexion was merely a light wheat color.
Ye Xiaoxuan guessed that the little policewoman was still a virgin. By now, he could be considered fairly experienced. Having been with two girls, he naturally understood some of the signs indicating whether a woman had known a man before, and he could tell from the way she held on to him.
Under circumstances like these, a woman who had already been with a man would usually embrace him fully, pressing as close as possible for fear of falling off the motorcycle.
A woman who had not yet known a man, however, relied more on the strength of her inner arms. Her chest would instinctively maintain a certain distance from the man’s back. Her body made contact, yet seemed ready to pull away at any moment.
She did not realize that this was even more tantalizing to a man. If she held him tightly, there was little to feel; it was the faint, uncertain friction that most effectively stirred a man’s desire.
After a long, bumpy ride, they arrived at the first crime scene Guan Ling had mentioned—the one where the victim’s throat had been crushed.
It was seven or eight kilometers from Reed Village, within the boundaries of Great King Village. Ye Xiaoxuan’s maternal grandmother lived in that village.
Farmland belonging to Great King Village stretched along both sides of the road. Row after row of corn had already grown red tassels, and it would soon be ready for harvest.
Blushing, Guan Ling asked Ye Xiaoxuan to pull over by the roadside. She secretly straightened her clothes, both inner and outer layers, then led him into the cornfield.
They walked inward along the ridges between the fields. Ye Xiaoxuan smiled and praised her. “Not bad. You have a good memory. You remembered the place after coming here only once?”
Guan Ling pointed toward the white line at the edge of the field. “The police marked it off. You can spot it at a glance.”
Ye Xiaoxuan frowned. “You marked off the field. Doesn’t that stop the owner from working?”
Guan Ling glared at him. “What else could we do? The scene must not be disturbed!”
Seeing his dark expression, she hurriedly explained, “It’s only for today. Once I finish examining the scene, we can remove it!”
Only then did Ye Xiaoxuan’s expression improve.
It was not that he was especially concerned about the nation or the livelihood of the common people. The main issue was that his uncle owned a plot somewhere in this field, and he could not even tell which one it was. If protecting the crime scene delayed the harvest, that would never do.
In the nearly person-high cornfield, a patch of stalks had been flattened. The area was not large and was arranged in the shape of a T.
Guan Ling stood on the horizontal bar of the T and pointed at the ground. “The victim should originally have been lying here. For some reason, he ended up lying on his side over there, at a right angle.”
Ye Xiaoxuan squatted on the ground, holding a freshly snapped corn stalk. He chewed it noisily like a sugarcane stalk.
Guan Ling was thirsty as well. She broke off a stalk and squatted beside him, chewing along with him while her large eyes darted around.
“This is strange. How could there be no bloodstains at all? If the victim’s throat was crushed by a blunt object, then he should have been lying here resting when someone struck him violently in the neck. But why is there no blood?”
Ye Xiaoxuan tossed aside his “sugarcane,” wiped his hand against his clothes, and said to Guan Ling, “Come on. I’ll reenact the scene for you.”
With that, he lay down on the ground and said, “Now tell me—how did the killer strike?”
Guan Ling had not expected him to lie down on the filthy ground for her sake. A touched expression appeared on her face, and she quickly stood up.
“Then I’m the killer now. I’ll strike you like this…”
Holding the corn stalk, Guan Ling made a horizontal chopping motion toward Ye Xiaoxuan’s neck. But she soon realized that her theory did not work.
If a standing person used a blunt object to strike someone lying down, the target would be the victim’s Adam’s apple, part of which was shielded by the chin. It was simply impossible to strike it that way. The killer could hardly have squatted there and tapped away at him blow after blow.
Guan Ling frowned. “Maybe he wasn’t lying down. Maybe he was standing.”
Even she could not convince herself. If the victim had been standing, how could the marks on the ground have been made?
Ye Xiaoxuan nevertheless cooperated and stood up. He lowered himself almost into a full squat, then looked at Guan Ling from the awkward position.
“Can I strike someone like this?”
Guan Ling covered her mouth, unable to contain her laughter. She rolled her eyes at him and scolded him coquettishly. “Could you be serious? In a posture that ugly, are you trying out for a duck act?”
Ye Xiaoxuan looked at her solemnly. “I am being serious. Look at the marks on the ground. The person who made them was this tall.”
Only then did Guan Ling notice the problem. Her eyes widened in astonishment.
The victim was a burly man six feet tall; she had seen it with her own eyes. At the time, his body had been lying along the vertical bar of the T. Did that mean the horizontal bar marked the place where the killer had lain? And why had the killer lain there as well?
Ye Xiaoxuan’s brows drew tightly together. He stood and stared at the marks on the ground, his expression growing more concentrated.
As he reconstructed the scene in his mind, his eyes swept over Guan Ling’s delicate, beautiful face. A thought flashed through his mind. Suddenly, he began unfastening his clothes and said excitedly,
“Lie down!”
