One wanted to go in, the other tried to stop him, and the two were already arguing at the hotel entrance. Suddenly, there were two loud thuds from the steps above—Ye Dajun had been kicked down by two security guards!

Seeing his elder brother beaten, Ye Xiaoxuan grew furious. He helped Ye Dajun up, checked him for injuries, and, relieved to find none, stared coldly at the two guards. "What gives you the right to hit someone?"

The man in the white shirt, emboldened by the arrival of reinforcements, pointed at Ye Xiaoxuan and shouted, "Get lost! Don’t interfere with our business. If we lose a few guests, can you afford to pay for it? Who do you think you are? Take a look in the mirror—do you think you’re fit to enter these doors?"

Ye Dajun glared, ready to rush forward, but Ye Xiaoxuan grabbed him. "Don’t be impulsive! There are more of them than us—we won’t get the upper hand!"

Ye Dajun gritted his teeth. "I can’t swallow this humiliation!" Ye Xiaoxuan sneered, "No one’s asking you to! Don’t forget who we are!"

That remark puzzled Ye Dajun. Who were they, after all? Did they even have an identity to speak of? Without another word, Ye Xiaoxuan strode over to the motorcycle, inserted the key, and mounted it.

Seeing these two country bumpkins about to leave, the white shirt and the security guards smirked disdainfully, spat behind them, and taunted, "Go home and sell a few of your family’s pigs and cows—maybe then you can afford to stay here a few nights!"

Ye Xiaoxuan ignored him, parking the bike in front of Ye Dajun. "Get on!" Ye Dajun hesitated, but Ye Xiaoxuan shot him a look, urging him, "Get on!"

On the ride, Ye Dajun asked hesitantly, "Xiaosan, could we be mistaken? Maybe Xiao Yu isn’t here at all?"

Ye Xiaoxuan didn’t look back. "She’s definitely inside, and things aren’t looking good."

Ye Dajun was surprised. "How do you know?"

Ye Xiaoxuan snorted heavily. "We hadn’t even spoken, and that guy already knew we were from Reed Village—someone must have tipped them off! No matter how snobbish, they’re still running a business, they wouldn’t treat people that way unless they wanted us gone fast. That tells me Xiao Yu is upstairs, and they’ve already got her under their control!"

Ye Dajun was alarmed, grabbing Ye Xiaoxuan’s arm and shouting, "So why did you bring me back? We should storm in!"

Ye Xiaoxuan’s body jerked, nearly crashing the motorcycle into a wall, and he cursed, "Settle down! Let me think!"

Weaving through the alleys, the motorcycle soon disappeared, only to return to the police station. Ye Dajun felt awkward. "So you came back for reinforcements? Is it right to call the police?"

Ye Xiaoxuan rode straight into the courtyard, parked under the shelter, pocketed the key, and said, "Nonsense! I just found a safe spot for the bike—no one will steal it here. I told you, don’t forget who we are—use your head!"

Ye Dajun scratched his head. "I do use my head, but I don’t even know who we are exactly."

Ye Xiaoxuan took off his tattered jacket, slung it over his shoulder, a blade of grass between his teeth. "We’re hoodlums! We have to stick to the ways of the underworld—never suffer a loss right in front of you, understand? Know what a hoodlum is? A local tough! This is our turf, and we set the rules!"

Just then, two fat sows returning from the market snorted their way out of the alley, charging blindly onto the main street as if someone had chopped off their tails. As they tried to turn, a random brick came flying, striking one squarely on the head, sending both crazed sows barreling forward even faster.

The man in the white shirt, standing at the entrance of Harmony Tower, saw the two ferocious sows charging straight for the glass doors and panicked, scrambling to stop them. With the security guards nowhere in sight, he alone was no match for two three- or four-hundred-pound sows—one sent him tumbling, limbs flailing, utterly humiliated!

Both sows stormed into the lobby, and soon came shrieks and the sound of shattering glass—the entire lobby descended into chaos!

Ye Xiaoxuan and Ye Dajun stepped out from the shadows, each holding a stone the size of a chicken egg. Surveying the pandemonium within Harmony Tower, the two exchanged a grin and swaggered inside.

The lobby was utter bedlam, voices and shouts echoing deafeningly. Ye Xiaoxuan and Ye Dajun, the culprits behind it all, walked past the white shirt and the guards as if they were officials on inspection, then strode up the stairs.

In truth, both had kept a trump card—if the white shirt or the guards tried to stop them again, the stones in their hands would be aimed straight at their foreheads!

Harmony Tower, famed as the most luxurious hotel in Scholar’s Township, was only marginally better than a typical guesthouse. It had just five floors: the ground floor for the lobby, second for the restaurant, and rooms only above the third.

Though there weren’t many rooms, it wasn’t feasible to knock on every door. Leaning against the third-floor railing, Ye Dajun sighed to Ye Xiaoxuan, "Let’s split up—one of us takes a floor, we’ll meet on the fifth."

Ye Xiaoxuan shook his head, exasperated. "How many times have I told you, big brother? Use your brain! Why knock on every door? Wouldn’t it be easier to have everyone pass by us?"

Ye Dajun stared wide-eyed. "What? Have them all come down? Would they listen?"

Ye Xiaoxuan grinned slyly. "I’ll make them listen! Is your voice loud?"

Ye Dajun squared his shoulders. "I think so—when I sing ‘The Tibetan Plateau,’ I never miss a note!"

Ye Xiaoxuan covered his face. "You’ve never been on key since you started singing! When I tell you to shout, just shout as loud as you can!"

Ye Dajun thumped his chest. "No problem! Leave it to me!"

Ye Xiaoxuan ambled over to the fire hydrant, glanced around, and, seeing no one, smashed the alarm with his stone.

The piercing alarm rang throughout the corridor. Ye Xiaoxuan shoved Ye Dajun. "Quick, shout!"

Ye Dajun immediately hollered, "That’s the Tibetan—" Ye Xiaoxuan kicked his rear, cursing, "The Tibetan what! I told you to shout ‘Fire!’"

"Fire!" Ye Dajun screamed, his voice sharp and desperate, echoing with the alarm. People on every floor flung open their doors, panic etched on their faces. Hearing there was a fire, some fled downstairs wrapped only in blankets, leaving their trousers behind.

Ye Xiaoxuan and Ye Dajun stood leisurely at the stairway, watching guests stream past. Some, still soapy from unfinished showers, rushed downstairs with suds atop their heads; some couples, or those pretending to be, wrapped together in a single sheet, ran a few steps only for all to be exposed.
