VIP Volume Chapter 68: I Underestimated You
Ye Xiaoxuan was taken aback. Guandu and his group did want to investigate that case, but they hadn't yet clashed directly with Qitian Group. Why was there talk of danger already?
Guan Ling snorted coldly. "Is it because of the missing items?" Hua Lingluo nodded. "The items disappeared in the township. If they aren’t found, your police station will be the first target of Qitian Group’s retaliation!"
Ye Xiaoxuan asked curiously, "What was lost?" Wen Xiaoyu whispered, "It’s the stuff brought back from Daxian Lake. The first night Zhao Yanping arrived in the township, it went missing. That’s why he hasn’t left and is waiting here for the case to be solved."
Ye Xiaoxuan nodded, thinking those items must indeed be treasures—far more valuable than the sixty thousand in his arms. Sixty thousand was handed over without a second thought, but these treasures had kept this group entangled for a week!
"By the way!" Ye Xiaoxuan suddenly remembered something and turned to Wen Xiaoyu. "Earlier, Zhao Yanping mentioned newly received payment. Does he have business in the township?"
Wen Xiaoyu shook her head. "I don’t know either. Actually, I know very little about Qitian Group. I just came along for the excitement."
That was understandable. She had only graduated from high school recently and came out of boredom. Strictly speaking, she wasn’t part of Qitian Group—her family was. Naturally, she knew far less than Hua Lingluo about the group’s inner workings.
But this wasn’t Ye Xiaoxuan’s concern, so he didn’t dwell on it. Holding Wen Xiaoyu, he said to Hua Lingluo, "Alright, it’s getting late. I’m heading back! Let’s each go our own way and back to our families!"
He finished, saluted Guandu, nodded to Hua Lingluo, ignored Guan Ling, and swaggered off with Wen Xiaoyu in his arms.
Guan Ling spat angrily at his retreating back, muttering, "What’s a little thug so proud of?"
She turned and saw Ye Dajun still clutching a box, lingering awkwardly nearby. She glared at him. "What are you staring at?" Ye Dajun timidly replied, "You’re not a fart…"
Guan Ling’s face darkened, fists clenching as she threatened to hit him. Realizing his mistake, Ye Dajun quickly lowered his head, ready to accept the blow. But Guan Ling couldn’t bring herself to strike him. She stomped her foot hard and cursed, "Get out, get out! Seeing you brothers just makes me angry!"
Mounting the motorcycle, Wen Xiaoyu clung tightly to Ye Xiaoxuan’s waist, sitting in the middle, with Ye Dajun behind. The three of them circled around and returned to the area near Qiyun Tower.
Ye Dajun asked, confused, "Why are we back again?" Ye Xiaoxuan rode around Qiyun Tower and finally spotted a figure in the alley by the back door—Hua Lingluo!
Wen Xiaoyu and Ye Dajun were both surprised, watching Ye Xiaoxuan and Hua Lingluo. "When did you two arrange this? How come we didn’t know?"
Hua Lingluo smiled lightly, taking Wen Xiaoyu’s hand. "There was no arrangement. When he left earlier, his gaze was odd. I thought he might have things to say that weren’t convenient in front of the two police officers, so I didn’t go upstairs. I waited here. If he didn’t show up in ten minutes, I’d leave."
Wen Xiaoyu pouted. "Sister Hua, you’re so smart!" Hua Lingluo heard the jealousy in her tone, laughed, pinched her cheek, and said, "Smart people are rarely liked, so when a younger sister finds a man she fancies, the older sister stays single!"
Wen Xiaoyu blushed, glancing shyly at Ye Xiaoxuan. She whispered to Hua Lingluo, "Sister Hua, when you go back, tell Dad that if he misses me, he can find me in Reed Village. I’ll come home when I have time! By the way, Xiaoxuan, what did you want to ask Sister Hua?"
Ye Xiaoxuan got off the motorcycle and said to Wen Xiaoyu, "You and big brother stay here and keep watch. I’ll talk with Sister Hua."
Wen Xiaoyu was hesitant, but Ye Dajun waved his hand. "Go ahead, with the two of us here, no one will get in!"
With Hua Lingluo, Ye Xiaoxuan walked deep into the alley. It was nearly midnight, and the small town was devoid of nightlife—the residents were all asleep, and the silence was profound.
Ye Xiaoxuan, chewing a blade of grass, leaned against the wall and asked Hua Lingluo bluntly, "After Yu’er and I fell into the water, what exactly happened?"
Hua Lingluo’s expression changed; she pondered for a moment and answered, "A lot happened. If I told you, it would sound unbelievable—no one would believe it. Actually, I think what happened to you two during that time was even more bizarre. I won’t ask you, and you shouldn’t ask me, alright?"
Ye Xiaoxuan frowned. "But it’s already affecting my life!"
Hua Lingluo nodded. "I don’t know how deep the impact runs. But let me advise you: sometimes knowing more only leads to greater destruction. When seeking the truth, you should first ask yourself if it’s out of curiosity or because it truly affects your life."
Ye Xiaoxuan was stunned, unsure how to respond. Indeed, what happened on the Fortune was driven more by curiosity than anything. Everyone he cared about was safe; those who died were strangers. Whether he figured things out or not didn’t matter to him—at least, not right now.
He nodded. "Fine, I won’t ask about the ship. But what is your sect, really? How powerful is Qitian Group?"
Hua Lingluo chuckled, covering her mouth. "Aren’t you brave? Aren’t you fearless?"
Ye Xiaoxuan looked at her seriously. "I never said I wasn’t afraid, but I don’t run just because I am. I’m a thug. If I don’t bully others, that’s kindness enough. But I won’t tolerate being bullied myself! If I don’t understand my opponents well enough, I’m not a thug—I’m just an idiot!"
Hua Lingluo’s smile faded, her gaze showing admiration. "I really underestimated you before."
Ye Xiaoxuan grinned wickedly. "It’s not too late to start liking me now! I’ve admired you for ages, Sister Hua…"
Seeing his lewd smile, Hua Lingluo recalled their intimate night on the cliff. Her cheeks flushed instantly. She kicked at him. "Praise you for two sentences, and you show your true colors! You really are a stubborn mule, only a beating will do! Treat Yu’er well—if you cheat, I’ll castrate you!"
Ye Xiaoxuan took the kick without dodging, pouting. "Don’t worry, I’ll cherish Yu’er. Whether I stray or not isn’t your concern. My women will never be limited to just Yu’er!"
"You dare!" Hua Lingluo gritted her teeth. "You rustic little thug, to find a girlfriend like Yu’er is luck beyond measure. If you dare hurt her, I won’t let you off!"
Ye Xiaoxuan’s eyes flashed red, his gaze domineering as he stared at Hua Lingluo. "You can’t stop me. I was born romantic—there will never be only one woman in my life!"
"Ugh!" Hua Lingluo gagged, disgusted.
