Chapter 125: [The Spirit Among Demons]
Demonic spirits are usually rare, but when a beastly rampage erupts, they can suddenly appear in the world, bringing great devastation.
To this day, no one truly understands how these beastly rampages ignite, yet everyone knows how terrifying they are, with varying levels of intensity.
The most powerful and longest-lasting rampage occurred when Earth first connected with a parallel dimension—a global calamity lasting decades. Rampaging beasts and demons nearly drove humanity to extinction, far worse than hurricanes, tsunamis, or earthquakes.
After that great disaster, beastly rampages continued to flare up from time to time, though they became regional rather than worldwide. Some areas experienced them more frequently, others less so. The entire Earth resembled a dormant volcano; only, instead of spewing lava, it erupted beasts and demonic spirits.
Today, every city is founded based on accumulated experience, choosing locations where rampages are rare or minor. Yet no one dares guarantee against a large-scale outbreak. Though Miracle City now thrives, and its citizens live in peace, everyone lives in quiet apprehension. A massive rampage could swiftly reduce this premier city of the Azure Continent to ruins. History is rife with cities that fell to such beastly onslaughts.
The small village where Luo Chen spent his childhood seldom saw beastly activity nearby. His ancestors lived there peacefully for over two centuries—until one rampage wiped the entire village from the map.
Before a beastly rampage explodes, it is always preceded by abnormal signs: snow falling in mild climates or fruit ripening prematurely, for example.
Joanna said, “My cousin works as a scout in Miracle City. I visited him recently, and he mentioned this matter. They’re not yet certain—it might only be an H-level rampage—so no public warnings have been issued. But if you’re going out hunting, be cautious. Don’t stray too far from Miracle City. They say the rampage deep within the forest has already reached G-level and may spread toward the city.”
Beastly rampages are classified by intensity: H, G, F, E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS, and the apocalyptic Extinction level.
H-level: Frequent beast activity and erratic behavior. Nocturnal beasts may roam during the day.
G-level: Building on H-level, beasts become more aggressive and may venture beyond their usual territories.
F-level: Beasts grow stronger than before.
E-level: Strength continues to increase; some beasts mutate, causing an influx of low-level demons like earth beasts and water creatures. The monster population surges, posing a significant threat to towns.
D-level: More low-level demons spawn, with the appearance of some mid-level spirits like skeleton warriors and treants.
C-level: Increased mid-level demon numbers, along with some high-level spirits such as fire elementals and stone giants.
B-level: More high-level demons emerge, including top-tier spirits like dark knights and necromancers.
A-level: Greater numbers of top-tier demons spawn, introducing some super spirits like phantoms and wraiths.
S-level: Super beasts multiply, along with fearsome spirits such as dark vortices, thunder beasts, and fallen angels.
SS-level: Top-tier demons increase in number, with disaster-level spirits appearing, including fire phoenixes, bone dragons, plague entities, and hurricane dominators.
SSS-level: Disaster-level demons flood the area, a veritable pandemonium. At this point, holding the city is futile—immediately abandon it and flee as far as possible. The city cannot be saved.
The highest Extinction level has occurred only once—when the parallel dimension and Earth first connected. At this stage, beasts and demons infest every corner of the world—land, sky, and sea alike. Disaster awaits wherever one goes; no one can escape, and the end of the world is imminent.
These classifications are the Eternal Alliance’s official guidelines, but exceptions exist. Even low-level rampages might spawn high-level demons. For example, an E-level rampage could yield necromancers or even fallen angels and bone dragons. Such occurrences are rare, but if you encounter them, you simply have to accept your misfortune.
H-level rampages are relatively mild. Still, Joanna came specifically to warn Luo Chen, who gratefully replied, “I understand, Joanna. I’ll be careful. Thank you.”
“Words mean nothing without sincerity!” Joanna pouted. “If you have time, just treat us to a meal—that’s enough!”
“No problem!” Luo Chen answered promptly. Now that he was earning well from hunting in the forest, he no longer struggled to make ends meet and naturally felt more generous.
Ellie laughed, “Joanna, you really know how to do business—just one sentence and you get a free meal.”
Joanna retorted with displeasure, “Lily, what are you saying? This guy’s a nouveau riche now, and he often trains at the paid trial grounds. Back when we tutored him for so long, we only earned a meal. That was such a loss!”
“Alright, I can’t argue with you. Back in Westdon Academy, who wasn’t afraid of Minister Joanna’s sharp tongue?”
“Lily, are you calling me a shrew?” Joanna huffed, turning to Luo Chen. “What do you think, brat? Am I a shrew or not?”
Luo Chen thought, If I say yes, that’s asking for trouble. Clearing his throat, he said, “Not at all. Joanna is beautiful, generous, gentle, kind, and helpful—a rare good girl in this world.”
Joanna puffed up her chest. “Lily, did you hear that?”
Ellie giggled, “Luo Chen, your flattery is getting better and better.”
Luo Chen remained composed. “Not really. I don’t have many virtues; my only one is honesty. That’s recognized throughout Blue Base Academy.”
Upon hearing this, Shi Feng looked puzzled. That phrase sounded so familiar—didn’t he say something similar to Zhuo Yuqing on that stormy night?
After lunch, the two returned to their dormitory. Suddenly, Shi Feng pulled out a small red pill and handed it to Luo Chen. “Brat, take this.”
Luo Chen raised an eyebrow. “What is this? An aphrodisiac?”
