Chapter Four: The Waves of Dizziness
This was already an area where fourth-tier magical beasts frequently appeared. Even with Alice’s strength, venturing further would be dangerous, and it seemed that no one in Weston Academy was stronger than Alice. So which reckless student could it possibly be?
Luo Chen muttered, “Who on earth is dawdling out here, trying to hunt a tier-five monster beast?”
According to the Bestiary, many tier-five beasts possessed innate long-range attack skills, making them particularly troublesome. Before the field assignments began, the academy had solemnly warned everyone that, regardless of who they were, provoking such creatures was strictly forbidden.
“Alice, let’s hurry up and leave. Forget about that full-bellied fool who just wants to know what dying feels like by provoking a tier-five beast.” Luo Chen felt a chill run down his spine. Just yesterday, while he and Alice were hunting, they had accidentally encountered a Blazing Weasel. The fireballs it spat could shatter boulders—if one struck him, a mere third-tier spiritual warrior, he would be lucky to escape with his life.
“No, it sounds like someone is being chased by that monster. We have to help them.” Despite her cold demeanor, Alice was kind at heart and couldn’t ignore someone in mortal danger.
Good heavens, this girl’s compassion knows no bounds, Luo Chen groaned inwardly. A tier-five beast was no joke, and judging by its roars, it was already enraged. An angry magical beast was even more terrifying; they wouldn’t even consider fleeing—only how to kill.
The roars grew closer. Suddenly, the bushes ahead parted, and two figures burst out one after another, moving so fast that even Luo Chen could barely catch their movements.
What terrifying speed! They were much faster than the Wind Wolf they had just slain.
The figure in front was clad in black—a woman, judging by her closely-fitted martial attire that outlined her curves. Her face was veiled, concealing her features, but she was clearly in a desperate state: hair disheveled, her black clothes torn in several places, revealing skin as smooth and fair as jade.
But Luo Chen had no time to appreciate her exposed beauty; his attention was wholly on the shadow behind her—a monstrous beast, taller than Luo Chen, with the face of a lion, the horns of a bull, two half-meter-long tusks protruding from its mouth, golden fur, and a muscular body supported by six legs. With a single bound, it could cover more than ten meters.
Good heavens, what kind of monster is this?
Luo Chen couldn’t identify it; the Bestiary at Weston Academy only covered common monsters, while the world’s magical beasts were countless, with new variants and evolutions appearing every year. It was no surprise he didn’t recognize it.
Lacking information, Luo Chen couldn’t determine its tier, attributes, strengths, weaknesses, or innate skills. But from its appearance, it was obvious this beast was not to be trifled with.
Their bestiary instructor had said that, at the academy’s level, students’ adaptability was still low. When encountering unknown magical beasts, unless there was no other option, it was best to avoid them altogether.
Given Luo Chen’s cautious nature, he naturally agreed with the instructor, but Alice would have none of it. She drew her sword and strode forward. Even though the woman in black wasn’t a student of Weston Academy, a magical beast was the common enemy of all humanity, and she would help her fellow human.
A chill swept forth. Perhaps realizing this beast was not easily dealt with, Alice’s first move was Frost.
Readying her attack, Alice called out, “Friend, over here!”
The woman in black, hearing her, shifted her footing, pivoted mid-step, and seamlessly changed direction by sixty degrees without the slightest hesitation. Her acceleration was astonishing, proof of her remarkable agility.
The monster beast lunged but missed, its six claws scraping at the ground before it leapt again, aiming for the woman’s back with uncanny swiftness. No wonder even with her skill, she couldn’t shake it off.
The brief chase sent cold sweat trickling down Luo Chen’s back. If he were in that woman’s place, he would have been torn apart already.
Without looking back, the woman sensed the beast closing in. She bent her legs as if to fall, but instead shot forward parallel to the ground, arrow-like. The posture was strange but incredibly fast, a technique never taught by the Weston Academy instructors.
Alice immediately understood her intent—she was creating an opening, minimizing the risk of friendly fire while allowing Alice to attack at the first opportunity.
A milky white mist surged from Alice’s sword, barely grazing the black-clad woman’s back and striking at the relentless beast. This Frost was even stronger than her earlier attempt; facing such a savage monster, Alice dared not hold back.
Her timing was perfect—the beast was mid-leap and couldn’t evade the chilling air. Instantly, a layer of frost coated its body, and it crashed heavily to the ground.
Luo Chen was dumbfounded—Alice was truly formidable. Even a tier-five beast was being overwhelmed. It seemed this one lacked a long-range attack skill, making it less frightening.
Seizing the moment when the beast was slowed by the cold, Alice moved in for the kill, and Luo Chen readied himself to strike again. Just then, the woman in black suddenly shouted, “Run!”
The fallen monster abruptly sprang up and, jaws wide, spat something directly at the approaching Alice.
A ranged innate skill?
Luo Chen was shocked—what kind of skill would it be?
But what the beast released wasn’t a fireball or toxic gas.
The air began to tremble, ripples visible to the naked eye radiating outward from the beast’s gaping maw.
Caught directly in the center, Alice let out a muffled cry and was hurled more than ten meters back, collapsing to the ground, pale and unconscious.
Even Luo Chen, standing near the edge of the ripples, felt his head spin, staggered back several steps, and collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.
What kind of innate skill was that?
The woman in black glanced back and said, “She’s finished—struck by the Stun Wave. Boy, you’d better run, or you’ll die here too!”
With that, she turned and fled without the slightest hesitation, leaving Luo Chen so furious he nearly cursed aloud. Damned woman—how could anyone be so shameless!
