Chapter 104: The Wrath of the Dragon's New Recruit

In a small restaurant near the central police headquarters in Hedong City, Chen Wei had been waiting anxiously for a long time.

Finally, the sturdy and imposing young man arrived for the appointment. He scratched his head sheepishly, "Director Chen, my apologies. I'm not familiar with the roads and ended up in the wrong place."

"It's alright. The streets of Hedong were never easy to navigate," Chen Wei said with a faint smile. "Where is your partner?"

"She's on her way. No need to wait for her; she said she's already eaten." The young man apologized again. After receiving Chen Wei’s call, he had immediately contacted Silver Dragon, but she informed him that she was in the Hedong District and would only come over after lunch.

Chen Wei looked puzzled. "Are you two not operating as a unified team?"

The young man grinned. "We haven't even caught a glimpse of Red Scorpion yet. Splitting up to look for clues should be faster."

Chen Wei nodded, appearing thoughtful, and then signaled the waiter to bring out the food. The guest before him looked quite hungry.

About ten minutes later, the woman with the ponytail appeared in the small restaurant. Chen Wei hurriedly invited her to sit.

The young man didn't react, continuing to eat heartily, only asking casually, "Any leads?"

The ponytail woman didn't answer. After sitting down and taking a sip of tea, she said to Chen Wei, "Director Chen, I’m not sure why you called us here. Do you have clues regarding Red Scorpion?"

"No leads, actually," Chen Wei admitted awkwardly.

"Director Chen, if there are no leads in the future, I think it's best we don't meet," the woman said, without any hesitation. "I mean no offense, but I don’t want my identity or Green Dragon’s to be exposed too early."

Chen Wei nodded. "I understand. But I came today to say one thing. I withheld some information from you yesterday only because I wasn't certain."

Both the young man and the ponytail woman looked up at Chen Wei.

"I previously mentioned that I suspected a female police superintendent in our city had a powerful individual supporting her from the shadows. I’ve conducted a comprehensive investigation, and I believe the head chef at the medicinal cuisine restaurant where she lives might be that person," Chen Wei said. "This morning, I arranged for some criminal investigators to rent an Audi and follow him, but he discovered them. They only managed to avoid being caught by reacting quickly. Based on my observations over several days, his insight, operational capability, and intelligence quotient are all extraordinary."

The young man frowned. "Director Chen, is that person a suspect?"

Chen Wei shook his head. "Not a suspect. I only hope to gain his help. I believe he might be the only one who truly controls the underworld forces in Hedong City."

The young man shook his head. "Director Chen, we won't intervene in anything outside of the Red Scorpion case. Our objective is very clear. If the person has no suspicious ties, we will not interfere with him just because he is part of the underworld."

"That’s not what I meant. I just want to say that guy is definitely not a bad person. If your investigation into Red Scorpion leads to him, please don't misunderstand him," Chen Wei explained. The Audi that had followed Xu You that morning was indeed arranged by the police, but he had no malicious intent; he purely wanted to clear Xu You’s name.

Chen Wei knew that Green Dragon and Silver Dragon were elite operatives sent from above—individuals of extraordinary caliber—and he was worried that their investigation into the Red Scorpion case might entangle the person who had helped Qin Wan'er achieve so many successes. Having someone in Hedong City who secretly assisted the police was highly beneficial, so he didn't want any mishaps.

"I've already been to the medicinal cuisine restaurant," the ponytail woman said coolly.

The young man’s brow furrowed. "Silver Dragon, didn't I tell you not to act on your own!"

The woman was unperturbed. "Hedong is just a third-tier city with five or six million people. How could an underworld expert be content to hide here? Therefore, whether it's Red Scorpion or that man, they must have their own ulterior motives."

Veins pulsed on the young man’s fist. He truly didn't understand why such a rookie had been assigned to work with him. It was simply incomprehensible. He missed the old days when the "Boss" operated with a detached attitude—a mission was just a mission, and they never meddled in anything else.

"No one can prove that he isn't just like Red Scorpion—both under the banner of the Green Ghost sect," the woman said, her voice low but piercing.

The young man’s temples throbbed, his face stern and angry. "Silver Dragon, you should know what should and should not be said."

The woman didn't argue further this time and fell silent.

The young man stood up. "Director Chen, thank you for your well-intentioned reminder. We will not meddle in matters that don't concern us. We have only one mission, and our target is Red Scorpion. If you find any leads on him, please convey them to us. We’ll take our leave now."

The woman stood up as well.

"At least finish your meal before you go," Chen Wei stood up, too. These two changed moods fast. Just a moment ago, the young man codenamed Green Dragon was relaxed, but the moment the woman mentioned the "Green Ghost," his face had shifted instantly.

The young man politely declined. "Thank you for your hospitality, Director Chen, but I’ve had enough."

Before Chen Wei could press them further, the two had already vanished from his sight, entered their car, and sped away.

In the car, the woman remained silent. She had realized her slip of the tongue. After a long while, she spoke quietly, "I will write a report on my mistake when we return."

The young man said emotionlessly, "I’m not the type to snitch. I won't report you to the superiors over a small matter like this. You can rest easy."

"But I am that type of person," the woman said, showing no sign of regret. "You went to a bar to drink last night, didn't you? I’ve already filed a report to the instructor."

Damn it! Did she have to be so quick to report him?!

The young man nearly choked. "Are you kidding me? Didn't I tell you I was just familiarizing myself with the roads in Hedong? On what grounds did you conclude I went drinking?"

"The car has a GPS tracker," she replied calmly. "After 10:30 PM last night, the car was parked at No. 18 Tongcheng Road until it left after 3:00 AM. I checked, and No. 18 Tongcheng Road is a bar called 'Night Beauty.' Am I wrong?"

You’re ruthless! Even tracking the GPS! The young man was speechless regarding his new partner. If it had been the previous Silver Dragon, this never would have happened—let alone snitching, they would have been out partying at the bar together.

The woman seemed to read his thoughts. "I’m sorry, I am not your previous partner. Besides, before we left, the instructor explicitly told me that if you went drinking, I must report it. The Captain has set the rules; if you break discipline, I must report it."

The young man felt a wave of frustration. *Shadow Dragon, that bastard! The Boss has only been gone for a year, and this guy really thinks he’s in charge.*

"Rookie, let me tell you, the Dragon's Wrath Special Forces only has one Boss! Even if the Boss has left, he remains the only instructor, the only captain. You’d better not try to pressure me with Shadow Dragon; he has no right to boss me around!" The young man sounded agitated, and the car sped up subconsciously.

The woman didn't speak. She didn't know the history of Dragon's Wrath. She only knew she was the first female member of the unit. Everyone in Dragon's Wrath was a freakish existence; the weakest were at the peak of second-rate experts, on the verge of breaking into the realm of first-rate experts.

Dragon's Wrath was the cutting edge of the Divine Dragon troops. Only the sharpest elites from various departments had the chance to enter, undergoing harsher training and taking on more dangerous missions.

The woman had only been in Dragon's Wrath for half a year. The instructor she knew was Shadow Dragon, the only man in the unit standing at the peak of the ninth stage of first-rate experts. She had heard many others speak of another "Boss." Although she hadn't met him, the members of Dragon's Wrath didn't seem entirely convinced by Shadow Dragon, often comparing him to that "Boss."

In her six months in the unit, she had broken through from a second-rate expert to a first-rate expert, finally earning recognition and the title of "Silver Dragon." It was said that the previous holder of this title was a martyr who had achieved distinguished service, so she deeply respected the name and felt honored to be worthy of it.

Later, she met Green Dragon, who was the partner of the Silver Dragon title. He was flippant and often talked back to the instructor, yet the instructor could never do anything about him. She had wondered why such a person was allowed to stay, but during a group mission, she witnessed his terrifying strength and understood why he existed in the unit.

Although they were both first-rate experts, there was a vast gap between her, a first-stage expert, and someone like Green Dragon, who was at the fifth stage or higher. Since then, she had stopped resisting him as a partner, especially after seeing the terrifying aura he unleashed when a comrade's life was threatened—something she had never imagined possible.

Perhaps that was the common trait of every member of Dragon's Wrath: they could accept their own death, but they would never accept watching a comrade fall.

She had heard from Green Dragon that her predecessor, the previous Silver Dragon, had fallen protecting that "Boss." She was shocked by this and had always wanted to see the man they called "Boss."

But every time she mentioned him, Green Dragon would only offer a bitter smile, looking up at the sky and muttering to himself that he didn't know if the Boss would ever return.

"I'm sorry," the woman said suddenly. "But I’m not really a rookie anymore. You should trust me."

The young man didn't expect an apology and offered a helpless, bitter smile. "There's nothing to be sorry for. I just don't like Shadow Dragon's style of control, and it has nothing to do with you. I don't want you to complicate things only because Red Scorpion is not someone to be trifled with. With your current power, you are no match for him. I really don't understand why Shadow Dragon dumped this mission on me; I never wanted to bring you along from the start."

The woman clearly didn't agree. "If I don't experience these tricky missions, I will never grow."

"Heh, you're optimistic. What if you die? The price of growth isn't that simple," the young man said, speechless at the reckless rookie.

The woman replied calmly, "Members of Dragon's Wrath don't watch their comrades die. I don't believe you would let me die."

The young man snorted dismissively. "Self-righteous. Do you think I’d risk my life for just anyone?"

"But I am your partner," she insisted, undeterred.

"I can't stand you," the young man rolled his eyes. "Just don't act on your own."

The woman smiled faintly, not giving him a direct answer. How could she let go of something she had set her mind to? She had to find out the true motive of the expert hiding in the medicinal cuisine restaurant.
