Chapter Twenty-Nine: When the Lower Beam Is Crooked, the Upper Beam Cannot Be Straight
Chapter Twenty-Nine: If the Lower Beam Is Crooked, the Upper Beam Will Be Askew
After the rush at midday, Qin Wan’er left for work, promising to come back in the evening to pack her things and head here. Qiu Yan didn’t say much, just went out, and Xu Yun realized she was doing a sweep of the surroundings, searching for any traces or clues.
“Guoguo, come upstairs and rest with Mommy for a while,” Ruan Qingshuang said, taking Guoguo’s small hand. After the chaos last night, all she wanted was a nap.
Guoguo had no objections. Once she settled the accounts, she went directly upstairs with Ruan Qingshuang. “Daddy, I’m leaving things to you. No flirting with anyone!”
“Flirting?!” Xu Yun nearly choked on his water. This was a medicinal restaurant, not some infamous brothel in the capital! What flowers, what willows—what nonsense.
Ruan Qingshuang merely smiled, already accustomed to these two, big and small, yelling beside her, even though it had only been a short time.
Guoguo, hands clasped behind her back, walked upstairs, not caring what Xu Yun might be thinking now.
Xu Yun sat behind the front desk, waiting for the group of thugs who had loitered outside a dozen times to finally come in. Yet they seemed wary of something and never dared show their faces.
Small-time crooks will always be small-time crooks, never making it to the big stage.
Suddenly, Guoguo, who had already gone upstairs, ran down again, her watery eyes fixed on Xu Yun, tense. “Daddy, Mommy’s underwear broke!”
“Uh…” Xu Yun was speechless. What was this child trying to say? “How did it break?”
“Well, Guoguo suspects it was stretched too much,” Guoguo replied solemnly.
Ruan Qingshuang called from upstairs, her voice sharp, “Guoguo! Come back here! If you keep making things up, Mommy will really get angry!”
Guoguo pouted, aggrieved. “I’m just telling the truth…”
“Hahaha, Guoguo, you can report more news like that in the future,” Xu Yun laughed, already imagining the moment Ruan Qingshuang’s delicate body burst free from the confines of her torn garment—what a scene… Too exciting…
Just then, the nervous thugs finally pushed open the door.
Guoguo froze, glancing at them uneasily.
Xu Yun got up and patted Guoguo’s head. “Guoguo, go upstairs. When Dad’s dealt with these annoying rats, we’ll go buy Mommy some new underwear, okay?”
“Okay!” Guoguo nodded enthusiastically. “Guoguo wants one too!”
Xu Yun’s face darkened. “What would you do with one? You can’t wear it!”
Guoguo looked down at her chest, serious. “I’m going to develop soon, so it’s better to be prepared.”
Xu Yun decided there was no point arguing with her; it was impossible to make her understand.
The thugs walked in, glancing furtively around, then eyed Xu Yun as if they were the victims.
“So, does your Wolfdog Gang intend to keep this up?” Xu Yun smiled, looking at the group. “It’s been a few days—itching for another beating?”
The most composed among them hurried to speak. “Kid, our boss sent us to deliver a message. Today is your last chance to consider. Give us your answer if you’ve made up your mind. Otherwise, don’t blame the Four Wolf Gang for being harsh.”
These thugs had come with a mission—to eat for free and deliver a message. But they never expected a police car parked outside, nor that Qin Wan’er, the most popular officer, was working here. So they didn’t dare enter. Now that they confirmed Qin Wan’er had left, they finally ventured in.
“While I’m in a good mood, hurry up and get lost,” Xu Yun said dismissively. “Tell Wang Shunxi: if he messes with me again, I’ll teach him how to spell ‘death’.”
At that moment, Qiu Yan returned from her patrol, spotted the gang, and felt annoyed. She asked Xu Yun, “Four Wolf Gang?”
Xu Yun shrugged, helpless.
The thugs were startled to see a beautiful woman walk in. No wonder this guy would rather work in a small restaurant than hang out with Uncle Xi—the medicinal restaurant not only had a beautiful owner and police flower Qin Wan’er, even the waitress was a stunning beauty!
Qiu Yan ignored Xu Yun and turned to the thugs, her eyes suddenly cold and sharp. “Get out.”
Though they knew Xu Yun was tough, being cursed by a waitress was hard to swallow—no matter how beautiful she was, that was too humiliating!
“You bitch, you think you’re tough?” the leader snarled.
“Wow, gutsy—don’t even pick your opponent before asking for trouble,” Xu Yun eyed him sympathetically. The Violent Fox’s tail was not something just anyone could pull.
“Don’t kill them. They still need to deliver my message,” Xu Yun sighed. “Why are there so many idiots who don’t know when to quit?”
With that, he walked toward the stairs, unconcerned about whether they’d bully a girl. The pressure on the thugs eased considerably once Xu Yun left.
“Hey, little lady, how much money can you make working here? Come hang with us, you’ll earn more in a day than you do in a year,” one thug said lecherously, stroking his chin.
The others snickered. “No one here cares about you. You’d be better off with us—we’ll take good care of you, ha ha ha!”
Qiu Yan’s murderous aura grew stronger, yet these fools still laughed, typical idiots who didn’t know what ‘death’ meant.
“We’re strong in every way, especially in bed—ah!”
Before he could finish, Qiu Yan kicked him hard. He wouldn’t die, but if he traveled back in time, he’d have no need for surgery to become a eunuch.
The other three were furious, but Qiu Yan gave them no chance. A straight punch, a whip kick, a knee strike—quick and clean, all four were down, clutching their wounded parts, kneeling on the floor.
“I’ll say it one last time.” Qiu Yan didn’t bother with small fry, not even looking at the kneeling thugs. Her voice was icy. “Get out.”
They ignored their pain, scrambling out. They swore they had never seen such a terrifying woman—she moved like a phantom! Was she human or ghost?
…
Guoguo emerged from her room as soon as Xu Yun came upstairs. “Daddy, when are we going to buy Mommy’s underwear?”
Ruan Qingshuang was at a loss, utterly speechless.
“Uh… well…” Xu Yun was at a loss. “Anytime, but I don’t know the size. She has to try it herself.”
“I know, 34D!” Guoguo declared confidently. “You can see it, Daddy. Mommy’s not smaller than Sister Zhiling.”
Damn! She even knows that! Xu Yun felt his blood rush. 34D—what a concept. A woman you can’t hold in one hand.
“Feng Guoguo, say one more word and I’ll spank you today!” Ruan Qingshuang had been defeated by this girl. “Get inside, now!”
“Daddy, Mommy’s been very irritable lately,” Guoguo said, eyes wide and blinking. “Women in menopause are scary.”
Ruan Qingshuang froze, deciding not to argue. She’d just been labeled as menopausal.
“Let’s go, then.” Xu Yun laughed heartily. “Qingshuang, I’ll take Guoguo out for a bit. Kids get stir-crazy if they stay home all day. Want to come with us?”
“Daddy, let’s go buy Mommy’s underwear!” Guoguo insisted.
Xu Yun laughed until his stomach hurt. “Alright, no problem!”
“If the lower beam is crooked, the upper beam will be askew,” Ruan Qingshuang said, completely resigned to the big and small troublemakers. “I’m not going with you!”
Xu Yun led Guoguo downstairs. Qiu Yan had intended to stop them, but seeing Guoguo’s eager look, she relented. “I’ll come with you.”
“Great! Sister Qiu Yan and Mommy have the same cup size, so you can help Mommy try them on!” Guoguo said, without a shred of politeness.
Qiu Yan rolled her eyes—silence is golden!
The two took Guoguo out of the medicinal restaurant. They hadn’t gone far before Guoguo forgot their purpose, clamoring to go to the children’s park, then to the water park.
Xu Yun was all for the water park—just imagining the Violent Fox in a swimsuit made his mood soar. Plus, there would be loads of bikini beauties—the ultimate paradise!
“No,” Qiu Yan refused all of Guoguo’s requests. Crowded, chaotic places were off-limits.
Guoguo suddenly stopped, looked up at the sky, and sighed like a little adult. “It’s been so long since I played with my friends…”
Hearing Guoguo’s melancholy, a shadow crossed Qiu Yan’s face. School would start in a few days. Originally, Guoguo was supposed to begin first grade, but due to all sorts of circumstances, she had ended up here.
“Guoguo, do you want to go to school?” Xu Yun smiled gently. He didn’t want her childhood to be filled with regret.
“Of course I do,” Guoguo pouted, longing but unwilling. “But the restaurant is so busy, and Mommy works so hard—I have to help.”
Xu Yun chuckled helplessly. This little girl talked as if the restaurant would fall apart without her. “We can hire someone else to help. Then you’ll be free to go to school, right?”
“Really?” Guoguo’s eyes shone with hope. After all, she was a child, unable to hide her true feelings.
“Xu Yun, Guoguo’s household registration isn’t in Hedong. About school…” Qiu Yan didn’t want to dampen Guoguo’s spirits, but it was better to clarify now. If she couldn’t enroll because of this, it would hurt even more.
Guoguo’s excitement faded instantly.
