Chapter Ninety: A Master at Chasing Girls

The fellow in a tank top, shorts, and flip-flops had already irritated Liu Tianyi simply by sitting beside Su Xiaoran. Now he even had the nerve to mock him? Ridiculous.

Liu Tianyi looked Xu Yun over from head to toe, and swore that even a single shoelace on him was worth more than Xu Yun’s entire person. What right did someone like that have to sit next to Su Xiaoran? He gave Xu Yun no polite smile at all. “And who are you? Do you get to interrupt when I’m speaking to Xiaoran?”

Su Xiaoran’s expression changed slightly. Liu Tianyi was the most influential of the young teachers, and rumor had it that his family was not merely a little wealthy. He owned three or four cars, and even the cheapest were worth hundreds of thousands.

Because of that, Liu Tianyi acted boldly and without restraint at school. Most of the teachers, mindful of his background, held him in higher regard, and so he carried himself with an air of superiority.

Su Xiaoran was unquestionably the school belle of He Dong International Bilingual School, one of the most beautiful teachers in the entire city.

Liu Tianyi naturally felt that he and Su Xiaoran were a perfect match, a union of talent and beauty, and thus he had never stopped pursuing her. Su Xiaoran’s answer, however, had always been clear enough: she did not like the rich-and-handsome type. She was not the sort of girl who daydreamed about marrying into wealth, nor the kind who would offer herself cheaply for luxury goods.

Xu Yun said nothing after being jabbed by Liu Tianyi. Before leaving, Sister Shuang had specifically told Guoguo not to cause trouble for Teacher Su at school. If he could not hold back and slapped this pretentious fool, then the one causing trouble for Teacher Su would not be the demon daughter, but the demon father.

Seeing that Xu Yun had no intention of answering, Liu Tianyi let out a cold snort to himself: just a useless piece of trash, and he still wants to steal my woman? He ought to piss on a mirror and look at himself.

Outwardly, though, the sinister Liu Tianyi was tender as can be. “Xiaoran, I only wanted to teach you how to drive as a friend and colleague. Really, that’s all.”

Su Xiaoran no longer cared to insist that he call her Teacher Su. “Teacher Liu, thank you for your kindness. As you can see, I already have an instructor, so there’s no need to trouble you.”

“Him?” Liu Tianyi glanced at Xu Yun with disdain. “What kind of instructor is he? What can he possibly teach with just a flap of the lips? Seeing the top edge of the rear bumper of the car ahead means leaving about a meter of distance? What use are these rigid little rules?”

Su Xiaoran did not agree with him. “If I think it’s useful, that’s enough. This is the way I choose to learn.”

With that, she said to Xu Yun, “Instructor Xu, you can continue. I’ll take careful notes.”

Xu Yun did not mind. “All right, then I’ll go on. Uh... when the left rearview mirror shows the center of the wheel cover aligned with the ground, that means the rear of the car is here...”

“What sort of nonsense are you talking about?” Liu Tianyi interrupted him directly. “Do you even have a car?”

Xu Yun answered honestly, “No.”

Liu Tianyi looked at him with utter contempt. “You don’t even have a car, and you want to teach Xiaoran how to drive? Have you ever driven? Driven a Porsche? A Mercedes? A BMW?”

“No.” Xu Yun shook his head.

Liu Tianyi really doubted how this man could answer him with such shameless composure. He pressed on mercilessly. “Then have you even heard of a Ferrari, or a Maserati? Have you seen a Bentley Mulsanne? Have you seen a Rolls-Royce Phantom?”

“I’ve heard of them, but I haven’t seen them,” Xu Yun answered honestly.

Liu Tianyi let out a scoff. Of course he knew this bumpkin had never seen any of them. He said smugly, “Let me tell you, I’ve driven more cars than you’ve even heard of. What right do you have to teach Xiaoran? What cars have you driven?”

Xu Yun touched his chin and thought for a moment before speaking. “I’ve driven light tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, amphibious transport vehicles, and infrared laser reconnaissance radar vehicles. Does that count?”

Su Xiaoran widened her eyes at Xu Yun. Was he joking? How could those possibly be vehicles a normal person could drive?

Liu Tianyi stared blankly for a while, then suddenly burst into arrogant laughter. “Hahahahaha! Do you take us for idiots? You’ve driven a tank? Hahaha! Then I’ve flown a plane!”

“Oh? Planes count too? Then I’ve flown a Falcon light fighter, an Apache attack helicopter, and an airborne early warning plane...”

Xu Yun counted on his fingers. There seemed to be only so many types he had handled. He wasn’t a pilot, after all, and didn’t have many chances to go up into the sky.

“Do you think I’m an idiot?” Liu Tianyi could no longer listen. “Who would believe the garbage you’re spouting? Hmph!”

Xu Yun shrugged. “Believe it or not, I never said you had to. You were the one who asked me.”

“Xiaoran, and you believe someone like this?” In Liu Tianyi’s eyes, Xu Yun was nothing but a lunatic fool. A normal person would never brag like this; it was pure nonsense.

Su Xiaoran’s expression grew somewhat unpleasant, and her tone turned stern. “Teacher Liu, what I do is my own freedom. If you have nothing else, then I won’t see you out.”

The muscle beneath Liu Tianyi’s eye twitched visibly. He was clearly furious at her choice. He glared hard at Xu Yun. “Kid, you’d better be careful.”

“Likewise.” Xu Yun did not bother to think about the threat. Compared with the danger posed by the one who had rescued the Scarlet Scorpion, the threat from this rich, handsome teacher was nothing but a fart.

“Hmph!” Liu Tianyi snorted heavily and turned to leave, a blaze of fury surging to the top of his head.

Su Xiaoran could not help but knit her brows. She was somewhat worried. After all, Liu Tianyi came from a powerful family and was loaded with money. Xu Yun had shown him so little face; she feared he might do something extreme.

After Liu Tianyi left, Su Xiaoran could not hide her worry. “Xu Yun, I’m sorry. Teacher Liu is proud and arrogant by nature. If he has offended you in any way, I’ll apologize on his behalf.”

Xu Yun shook his head. “You don’t need to apologize for him. I can tell you don’t like him either. I imagine he’s always pestering you, isn’t he? Teacher Su, if you need any help, just tell me. I can’t stand shameless men.”

Su Xiaoran gave a wry smile. “It’s not as serious as you make it sound. But I really do dislike that kind of man. He relies too much on his family connections, always acting so haughty and self-important, and that arrogance was never earned on his own, so I don’t like it.”

“Then tell him directly.” Xu Yun said, “If you don’t like him, you don’t like him. There’s no forcing that.”

Su Xiaoran nodded. “I have told him that, but...”

“But he still clings to you like a piece of dogskin plaster, right? I knew it would be like this. He looks respectable enough on the surface, but I didn’t expect him to be so thick-skinned.” Xu Yun’s evaluation was brutally direct.

“Well, he hasn’t really done anything. He just keeps saying he wants to start as friends first. But in front of other people he always calls me so familiarly. Those who don’t know the situation end up thinking I’m involved with him.” What troubled Su Xiaoran most was this matter. “A lot of teachers are now saying I’ve attached myself to some wealthy family or another. I have no way to explain it.”

Xu Yun nodded, indicating that he understood perfectly. That man’s methods were already fairly clever. He was trying to create a haze so that the other colleagues would think there was something between them. Then, through the spread of gossip and rumor, Su Xiaoran would eventually have no choice but to yield, and sooner or later things would simply be carried along by the current.

The brilliance of such a scheme lay in making feelings grow invisibly. Even if Su Xiaoran felt nothing for him, it would make others believe she was merely putting on airs. If she ultimately refused to be with him, no one would think Su Xiaoran was especially virtuous; they would only assume she had held herself too high, bored Liu Tianyi to death, and been abandoned.

“Want me to have a talk with him for you?” Xu Yun smiled. People like that relied on having a good family and had been spoiled rotten since childhood. Give him a serious beating, and he would probably change his ways at once.

Su Xiaoran hurriedly waved her hands. “No, really, no need. I can handle my own affairs.”

“All right. Do you still want to keep listening?” Xu Yun pointed to the notes she had been taking.

Su Xiaoran nodded vigorously. “Of course I do! By the way, what you said earlier about driving tanks and flying planes... was that real or fake?”

Xu Yun narrowed his eyes and smiled. If she decided to dig all the way to the bottom, he wouldn’t know how to explain it, so he simply shook his head. “I’m not some kind of magical robot flying squirrel. Where would I get tanks and planes to drive? Just talking nonsense.”

Su Xiaoran’s expectant expression dimmed with obvious disappointment. She had really believed him just now. For some reason, she found his words strangely convincing. For a moment, she had even wondered whether he was the legendary all-purpose soldier of the Chinese army.

But then again, how could an all-purpose soldier be so young and out here working as a cook? Su Xiaoran found her own imagination rather laughable.

The lesson continued. Xu Yun explained vividly, and Su Xiaoran listened with great interest. Aside from the big break, when Guoguo came by to stir things up for a while, the rest of the time passed quite harmoniously.

At last school was over, and Guoguo rushed straight to Su Xiaoran’s office again, declaring that she had come to catch them in the act.

Su Xiaoran had learned many things that driving schools did not teach that morning, so she was very grateful. “To show my thanks, how about I treat you to lunch? Would that be all right, Guoguo?”

Guoguo eyed her suspiciously, her little eyes darting about. Wasn’t this moving a bit too fast? Had Dad taken down Teacher Su in just one morning? Dad really was a master at chasing girls.

“That was you driving us here this morning, so it should be me and Guoguo thanking you,” Xu Yun said with a faint smile. “We should be the ones treating you.”

Guoguo waved a small hand like a grown-up. “Enough, enough. Stop being so polite. Why don’t we just go back to the Medicinal Delicacies Hall for lunch? Teacher Su, don’t you want to taste my dad’s cooking?”

Su Xiaoran could not help but nod after hearing that, then looked at Xu Yun a little shyly. “Would that be okay?”

“Let’s go.” Xu Yun was of course more than willing.

“I’ll drive, hehe. Guoguo, Teacher Su is no longer the road killer she was this morning. Your dad taught me so many things.” Su Xiaoran said proudly.

Guoguo looked baffled. “So this morning, Teacher Su learned everything just because Dad touched her thigh in the car?”

Su Xiaoran’s smile froze on her face, and Xu Yun felt as though he could bang his head against a wall.
