Chapter 124: The Deserved End (3)
Jin Hai felt a bit puzzled.
"Hey, Qin Lu, why didn't you have Fang Yu drop you off?"
"Well, Fang Yu had something come up last minute. Besides, it wouldn't be convenient for you to take the bus like that, would it?" Qin Lu was truly the kinder of the two.
Upon hearing this, Jin Hai immediately seized the opportunity. "That's right. Qin Lu, why don't you talk to Miss Shen and ask her to take me back? If you can't, you can just take a taxi. Look at my condition—I doubt any taxi driver would even want to pick me up."
Qin Lu looked at Shen Molan with hesitation; she wasn't exactly close with the wealthy heiress. "Miss Shen, what do you think?"
Shen Molan let out a cold, disdainful snort. "What does that have to do with me? Look at how filthy he is. Do you think my car is just some common vehicle? I agreed to take you back for Fang Yu's sake, but how could I possibly bring a man along?"
However, despite her sharp words, Shen Molan was a rich heiress after all. Seeing Qin Lu’s awkward expression, she reached into her designer handbag and pulled out a large banknote. "Qin Lu, let’s go. I have other things to do. Let this four-eyes take a taxi himself." With that, she flicked the banknote toward Jin Hai.
Seeing the money, Jin Hai’s pain seemed to vanish instantly. He scrambled to pick it up, bowing repeatedly in thanks. "Hehe, thank you! I knew you both were good people. Once I go back and recover for a couple of days, I’ll definitely bring you some of my homemade pickles to try."
Qin Lu climbed into the passenger seat of the Z4, and the two women drove off. Jin Hai, meanwhile, stood there, beaming as he looked at the large bill in his hand. *Tsk, that rich girl is really pretty. She’s a tiny bit behind Chu Ran, but not by much. The key is that she’s loaded—worth hundreds of millions. She must have taken a fancy to me; why else would she give me so much money? Yes, that must be it, she’s interested in me. Oh, the burdens of being an outstanding man—every woman falls for me. What should I do about Xia Chu Ran? Maybe I should go back and ask my mom.*
With that, Jin Hai clutched the banknote tightly. He hesitated for a long time, unable to bring himself to spend it on a taxi. Instead, he headed for the bus, ignoring the judgmental looks from other passengers, lost in his own wonderful delusions.
The next day, Fang Yu and the others grew busy. To travel to Shawan, they needed to obtain travel permits. Everyone had to drive back to their respective hometowns. It was easy enough for the guys, but the three girls were from different cities, meaning they had to spend the entire day traveling back and forth.
By the time they finished and returned to the snack street, it was already night. Fang Yu collapsed into bed and slept from 11:00 PM until 4:00 PM the following afternoon. He woke up with a yawn to find the townhouse empty; Xia Chu Ran and Cheng Chen had already gone to the internet cafe.
Just then, Zhao Bin called. "Hey, are you up? Do you want me to order you some food?"
"Yeah, sure, I’m starving. I’ll be over in a bit."
After hanging up, he took a shower to refresh himself, changed his clothes, and headed out. As soon as he stepped into the internet cafe, he heard the laughter of Xia Chu Ran and Shen Molan.
"What are you two laughing so hard about?"
When Xia Chu Ran saw him, she cheered and hurried out from behind the counter, handing him her phone. "Haha, Fang Yu, look at this! That Jin Hai guy actually wants to hit on Molan."
"Huh? Four-eyes doesn't like you anymore?" Fang Yu was genuinely surprised.
"Not at all! He wants to have his cake and eat it too. He asked me to give him Molan’s number and even suggested that if possible, we could both be his." The young girl doubled over with laughter.
"Is this four-eyes really that confident? Didn't Miss Shen slap him twice?" He asked, amused, glancing at Shen Molan.
Shen Molan snorted in annoyance. "Hmph, I shouldn't have given him that money the other day. If I hadn't been dropping your girlfriend off at school, I never would have run into such a ridiculous situation."
"Haha, alright, alright. I apologize on behalf of Miss Shen. Dinner is on me tonight. Hey, where’s Lu Zhen?" Fang Yu laughed, looking around, but couldn't find a trace of Lu Zhen.
"That guy ate too much Haagen-Dazs and upset his stomach. He’s been in the bathroom all afternoon," Cheng Chen said, frowning.
"Damn, it’s not like we weren't going to let him eat. Why did he have to sneak the ice cream?"
"It’s hilarious! Fang Yu, look, Jin Hai is so terrified that Zhu Wei will ambush him on the snack street that he keeps asking me if Zhu Wei is around. I told him Zhu Wei is always lurking outside, and it scared him so much he doesn't even dare to come anymore." Xia Chu Ran giggled, her eyes curving into crescents.
"Well, the wicked are plagued by the wicked. I guess this Young Master Zhu isn't entirely useless," he laughed.
But they clearly underestimated Jin Hai’s persistence. While he indeed didn't dare to enter the internet cafe again, that didn't stop him from continuing to covet both Xia Chu Ran and Shen Molan.
Two days later, without asking Xia Chu Ran, Jin Hai took the bus to the vicinity of the snack street on his own. He circled the area several times, constantly observing to see if there were any signs of Zhu Wei.
It was noon. Shi Jicheng was delivering a large order to the internet cafe as usual. He left, pockets stuffed with the cigarettes and drinks Fang Yu had given him, and was just about to hop on his bicycle to deliver the next order when he was blocked by Jin Hai.
"Hey, delivery boy—yeah, you. Come here and do something for me," Jin Hai commanded, pointing at Shi Jicheng with an air of superiority.
Shi Jicheng adjusted his glasses; he wasn't familiar with Jin Hai. "Me? What do you want?"
Jin Hai walked up, puffing out his belly. "You’re a delivery guy, right? Did you just deliver food to Fang Yu and the others inside?"
Shi Jicheng nodded. "Yeah, Boss Fang goes to my school. I deliver his orders often."
Jin Hai looked surprised. "You’re a student too?"
"Yeah, just a part-timer. What do you want? Hurry up, I have another delivery to make," Shi Jicheng said, growing impatient.
Jin Hai pulled out two bags and handed them over. "Here, help me give these to Xia Chu Ran and that girl named Shen Molan. You should know them, right? The two prettiest girls inside."
Shi Jicheng waved his hand, confused. "Why don't you go give them to them yourself? My delivery is going to be late, and I’ll get docked points. Besides, Xia Chu Ran isn't even there. When I dropped off the food earlier, I heard Boss Fang say she and Shen Molan went downtown and haven't come back yet."
Hearing the two women weren't there, Jin Hai felt disappointed. It made sense; he hadn't checked in with Xia Chu Ran today.
"Oh, that's fine. Just help me take them inside. I’ll make it worth your while. It’s just a few points, I won't let you lose out," Jin Hai persisted.
Seeing the four-eyes wouldn't take no for an answer, and being a mild-mannered guy himself, Shi Jicheng sighed and nodded. "Fine, give them to me. I’ll leave them at the front desk. But we’re clear—you have to compensate me for my losses. The delivery is definitely going to be late now."
Jin Hai nodded repeatedly and handed over the bags. "Sure, no problem. Here, give these to Xia Chu Ran and Shen Molan respectively. Tell them they’re a special gift from Jin Hai. Don't forget now! Go on, hurry up and finish your delivery, I’ll have something for you when you get back."
