Uncle Er’s figure flashed swiftly, evading Left One’s attack in an instant. Left One crashed heavily into a nearby stone pillar. It was clear that Left One’s martial arts were formidable, but against Uncle Er, they were utterly ineffective.

“Left Protector, we were once brothers. I won’t make things difficult for you. You may leave,” Uncle Er said, standing there with his hands clasped behind his back, a look of melancholy on his face. At this moment, his thoughts seemed more focused on me than on Left One.

“Wang Jun, if you let me go today, you will regret it,” Left One stood up, his gaze wavering.

“We were brothers once. I cannot bring back your heart, but I also cannot harm you. You may leave; I have family matters to attend to.” Dark clouds gathered over Uncle Er’s face. One could sense his deep pain—his brother turning against him was an immense sorrow indeed.

Left One’s eyes flickered uncertainly. He stood up and was about to leave when I stopped him.

“Left One, why did you disguise yourself as Wei Qi to deceive me?”

“Wang Dachuan, don’t you want to unify the Seven Parallel Worlds? Don’t you want to be the ruler of the Seven Parallel Worlds? Everyone has desires. If one path is blocked, there’s always another.” With that, he vanished into the distance in a flash. I regretted not keeping the Xingyun Staff, but then again, it was given to Wei Qi by Xingyun, and after passing through many hands, it no longer represented Wei Qi.

“Dachuan, come inside. Your mother and I will explain everything to you.” Uncle Er approached and stood before me, his gaze gentle.

I shook my head. “Uncle Er, I suddenly understand. I won’t meddle in your affairs anymore—I can’t.” Those were my true feelings. I had thought I had met Wei Qi, but he was a fake. He was allied with the Ghost King. Now, I had to reevaluate the relationships and doubts surrounding them.

“Child, come in. I will tell you everything,” my mother emerged, tears streaming as she grasped my hand.

“Mom! Please don’t do this. I really don’t want to know. I don’t want to know anything,” I said. The image of my father flickered in my mind, but no longer pitiful as before; instead, it stirred fear. I sensed he was using me.

“Child, whether you want to hear it or not, I will tell you. Your father’s fate till now is his own doing. It has nothing to do with your Uncle Er,” my mother said.

“I won’t listen. Don’t tell me,” I replied. I didn’t know what had transpired between them. I didn’t fully trust my father’s words, but it was true that Uncle Er and my mother were together. I refused to get involved in such muddy waters. I glanced at Uncle Er. “Uncle Er, is Wang Ying here?”

Uncle Er nodded. “Yes, she’s here. I originally sent Left One and Right Two to rescue her, but Left One betrayed us, and Right Two was injured. So I personally rescued her, though the dark poison in her body hasn’t been fully dispelled. The underworld’s yin energy is dense, so her recovery will be slower than in the living world, but it’s much safer.”

“Uncle Er, please give Wang Ying back to me. I want to leave here.” My heart was in turmoil. Even seeing my closest loved ones before me could not bring me joy. Seeing my mother and Uncle Er reminded me of my empty trouser legs—I had to leave. Staying with my mother and Uncle Er now would only torture my soul.

“Dachuan, outside, there’s a storm raging. You should stay in the underworld. When Wang Ying recovers, you two can be together here,” Uncle Er said.

“Enough! I don’t want to hear it. I want to leave,” I shouted.

Uncle Er furrowed his brows. “Very well. Follow me.”

My mother grabbed the back of my collar. “Dachuan, please stay. Your uncle and I are old now. We want to be with you.”

I showed no expression. “Mom, I won’t stay. Don’t worry, I won’t look for Dad either. I can’t handle your adult matters.”

“You?” My mother’s voice trembled slightly, tears streaming again.

I couldn’t bear to see her cry. She raised me with difficulty. Ever since I was young, seeing her weep secretly pained me. I’d vowed never to make her cry again. But through her tear-streaked eyes, I saw my father’s empty trouser legs. Perhaps his downfall had nothing to do with my mother and uncle, but if Uncle Er wasn’t with my mother, the result would surely not be like this. The more I thought, the more headache I felt, so I stopped thinking.

“Mom, take care of yourself,” I said, breaking free of her hand and following Uncle Er.

In a room, I saw Wang Ying—the girl I had missed so much.

She lay silently on the bed, her face as still as water, breathless, but her complexion was fair. She was still dressed in a white gown, lying there quietly.

Seeing her, my mind burned with heat, forgetting all unhappiness and troubles. I gently held her. “Wife, wife, can you hear me?”

Holding Wang Ying’s cool body, feeling her soft skin again, my heart shattered.

“Dachuan, I sealed Wang Ying’s soul. You are of utmost yin blood; using your body to channel true energy to her will gradually awaken her spirit. However, she still carries much yin energy and poison, which you must help cleanse slowly,” Uncle Er explained.

“Thank you, Uncle Er.” I carried Wang Ying and left the room. Suddenly, the sky seemed much brighter.

“Dachuan, can’t you stay?” Uncle Er followed behind me.

“Uncle Er, I really can’t face these realities. You are elders, and there are many things I still don’t understand. Once I leave, I will live under an assumed name and never get involved in the yin-yang world again.” Holding Wang Ying, my decision was firm.

“Alright, since you’ve decided, I’ll see you off.” Uncle Er’s expression darkened, burdened with worries.

Holding Wang Ying, I felt a bit comforted but still numb. Everything had come too suddenly; I was caught off guard, unwilling to accept the truth. Deep down, I still wished my mother, uncle, and father could all live well.

“Dachuan, ahead is the barrier. Will you not reconsider? Sometimes staying is not a bad thing,” Uncle Er said as we reached a grove of gray-hued trees.

“No. Things are as they are. I’ve decided to leave.” Knowing the barrier awaited, I feared that once I stepped through, I might never see them again—or even want to.

“Dachuan, since you’ve made up your mind, go then. You want to hide your name, and I support you. Actually, there’s nothing wrong with being ordinary.” Uncle Er stood there, eyes glistening.

“Uncle Er, please be kind to Mom! I promise, I promise!” I didn’t dare look back, for reasons unknown. After speaking, I gave a glance to Fatty and stepped forward.

Autumn on Mount Fulai was radiant, the sun shining brightly, the hillsides awash with hues of green and gold—a breathtaking scene. Yet within me, a deep sorrow stirred. Holding Wang Ying, tears streamed down my face.

Through my blurred vision, I glanced back once more. The rocky mountains and verdant trees—no longer the underworld, no longer the ghost realm. Though invisible to me, they truly existed. My father, mother, and Uncle Er—all remained in that gray, misty world.

“Brother Dachuan, don’t cry. There are tourists here,” Fatty said softly, tapping my shoulder.

I hastily wiped away my tears and, holding Wang Ying, walked down the mountain. We quickly took a taxi to the Wei family orchard. When Wan’er saw me carrying Wang Ying back, she brightened immediately. I understood her heart—if I was happy, she would be happy.

“Brother, what’s wrong with Sister Ying?” Wan’er carefully took Wang Ying, looking at her unconscious state, confused.

“It’s nothing serious. Uncle Er sealed her soul; I will gradually help her break free. Wan’er, I need to discuss something with you,” I said, helping place Wang Ying on the bed.

“Brother, just say what you want,” Wan’er replied softly.

“Wan’er, I want to take Wang Ying and leave here. Will you come with me?”

“Brother, what do you mean? If I don’t go with you, where else can I go? I want to go with you. Are you afraid Sister Ying will be unhappy?” Wan’er’s eyes reddened.

“Wan’er, you misunderstand. This time when I leave, I won’t return to the yin-yang world. I want to live hidden in the mountains, leading an ordinary life. Wherever you want to go, I will take you.”

“Brother, I want to follow you, even if it means traveling to the ends of the earth.” Wan’er stepped forward, wrapping her arms around mine.
