Chapter 135: The Face

Huo Shuyue kept her head lowered, a towel she had used to dry her hair wrapped around most of her face, leaving only her eyes visible.
“Gu Ci, may I borrow your phone...?”
Originally, Rong Ye had only intended for Huo Shuyue to come to Gu Ci’s place for tutoring. The decision to have her stay overnight had been made on the spur of the moment.
As a result, when they left, Rong Ye had confiscated Huo Shuyue’s phone, and just now he had forgotten to return it to her.
“Are you all right?” Gu Ci asked indifferently. She then reached out and handed Huo Shuyue the phone.
Almost as if reacting instinctively, Huo Shuyue immediately raised her hand and pulled the towel more tightly over her face.
Taking a closer look, she saw that it was Gu Ci who had given her the phone. Her body, which had been taut as a drawn bowstring, relaxed slightly. She forced herself to appear as though nothing had happened.
“Thank you. I’m fine.”
Gu Ci nodded and did not ask anything further before returning to her room.
In the short time it had taken Qin Yunqi to drive her home and leave, Elder Qin had already sent her several musical scores for desk analysis.
She had not looked at her phone while in the study, so she had only discovered them after returning to her room.
She had nearly finished writing that section earlier. All that remained was the ending...
After taking the phone, Huo Shuyue did not look at anything else. She simply made a call.
Her lowered voice carried a hint of vulnerability she had never before revealed in public.
“Uncle Fu, my cosmetics...”
A little while later, when Huo Shuyue knocked on the door to return the phone to Gu Ci, her emotions had steadied somewhat. She even looked a little embarrassed.
“Thanks. I asked someone from home to bring me a few things.”

Gu Ci nodded, neither particularly concerned nor opposed.
Seeing that Huo Shuyue was still wearing her bathrobe, her fingernails pinched until they had gone white, Gu Ci said coolly, “Go back to your room and dry your hair.”
For some reason, Huo Shuyue did not argue. Instead, she nodded as if possessed and turned to enter her room.
She really did obediently go dry her hair.
Gu Ci lazily glanced at Huo Shuyue’s door, then turned and went downstairs to look for the honey and preserved lemons in the refrigerator.
Almost as soon as she reached the first floor, the doorbell rang.
Standing outside was a middle-aged man in a tailcoat.
There was a trace of haste in his expression, though he remained composed rather than disheveled.
When he saw Gu Ci, he paused briefly, then quickly recovered.
“Good evening, Miss Gu. I’m the butler serving Young Master Rong. You may call me Uncle Fu. These are some things for Miss Shuyue. I’m sorry to trouble you, but could you give them to her?”
As he spoke, Uncle Fu handed Gu Ci a bag.
“You’re too kind, Uncle Fu. I’ll give them to her.”
Gu Ci accepted the bag without even glancing inside, which made the smile on Uncle Fu’s face grow a little more sincere.
After seeing Uncle Fu off, Cici followed her original plan and went to the kitchen to make herself a cup of honey-lemon water.
Recalling Huo Shuyue’s distracted appearance just now, she thought the girl might actually fall ill.

Falling ill meant being unable to do her worksheets, which meant Gu Ci would have to do them herself.
Gu Ci stopped midway through turning around, then casually made Huo Shuyue a cup of sour jujube tea as well.
She placed the things Uncle Fu had brought for Huo Shuyue, along with the cup of sour jujube tea, outside Huo Shuyue’s door. After knocking, Gu Ci returned to her own room.
Hearing the knock, Huo Shuyue immediately switched off the hair dryer. Then, in a panic, she used the collar of her clothes to cover her face.
She hurried to the door and carefully opened it a crack with one hand, while the other pressed her collar tightly over her face.
She peered outside through the gap.
There was no one there.
Lowering her gaze, she saw the things placed beside the door.
Relief washed over Huo Shuyue, and she slowly exhaled.
She cautiously stepped out of the room and reached down to pick up the bag.
Then she noticed the cup of steaming sour jujube tea.
An inexplicable warmth welled up in her heart.
Carrying the cup back into her room, Huo Shuyue let the collar slide down from her face...
