Chapter 59 Encountering Rong Ye
In the abandoned port commercial district, Gu Ci walked through the darkness with a baseball cap pulled low over her head, clutching the wooden box she had just "procured" from someone else, marked with that mysterious symbol.
The next instant, her steps shifted quietly. At the same time, she tilted her head, her body deftly swaying aside by a hair’s breadth.
A sharp, vibrating sound sliced through the air—a blade whistled past, shattering the glass door of a shop behind her with a crash!
There was no time to catch her breath. A tall, slender figure dressed in black appeared, pressing straight toward her vital point!
The man's deep, melodious voice, cold and deadly, echoed in the darkness. "Hand it over."
Seeing Rong Ye’s face half-hidden in shadow, Gu Ci’s lips twitched involuntarily.
As expected, it was him…
She instinctively touched the mask on her face, but in that split second of distraction, the man closed in at lightning speed.
Gu Ci’s expression sharpened and she immediately grew alert.
She dodged his attack, her straight leg slicing through the cold wind as she kicked at him!
But the man seemed to have anticipated her move. He raised his hand and grabbed her leg, yanking her forcefully toward him!
Rong Ye stepped forward, his other hand striking again at her throat.
Gu Ci reacted instantly, bracing herself against his shoulder with one hand to deflect his blow!
Their faces brushed past each other, separated only by her mask, his hand grazing her waist as the fierce, predatory scent from his body enveloped her.
In that moment, the distance between them all but vanished.
Her pupils contracted. Suddenly, Gu Ci tossed the wooden box into the air and, with an impossible twist, pivoted around him.
Taking advantage of the brief distraction as the man reached for the box, she bent backward in a flash, using Rong Ye’s own force against him. In that split second of divided attention, she forced him to release her leg and snatched the box back!
Her baseball cap fell to the ground. Gu Ci clicked her tongue softly, her movements ghostlike as she widened the distance between them.
Rong Ye lunged after her, his hand reaching relentlessly for her throat.
But the woman before him ducked under his arm. Seizing an opening, Rong Ye caught hold of her hair, pulling her toward him.
Again, the space between them shrank.
Yet in the next second, a faint, barely perceptible familiar fragrance from her hair drifted into Rong Ye’s nose.
He wavered for just an instant, and in that instant, her hair slipped through his fingers.
By the time he came back to himself, she had vanished, leaving behind only a black hair tie that still carried her lingering scent...

Back at the residential complex where her second uncle lived, Gu Ci quietly eased the door open and slipped inside.
But as she crossed the living room, she came face-to-face with a man emerging from the kitchen.
Gu Jinyan had just arrived home late that night by plane, barely having eaten, and had woken up hungry in the dead of night to raid his own fridge.
Who could have expected something like this?
Gu Jinyan paused mid-bite, staring blankly at the girl who had appeared before him yet again.
But in the blink of an eye, after rubbing his eyes, he realized there was nothing there at all.
Disturbed by the strange incident, Gu Jinyan hardly slept a wink that night.
The next morning, dark circles under his eyes, he stepped out of his room—only to collide headlong with Gu Ci, who was just emerging from the guest room.
