Chapter Eighty-Nine: Unexpected Developments

The next day, Zhou Xiaoyue did not appear. Word was that she had applied for annual leave to take a break.

“For such a workhorse, she hardly ever takes time off. Every morning when I arrive, she’s always already here, and when I leave after work, she’s usually still at her desk. It’s been like that for years,” a colleague said. “She really should get some proper rest.”

“She suddenly took leave. I wonder if there’s some special reason?” another colleague asked Yuan Zhong. “You two are so close. Do you know anything?”

Yuan Zhong shook her head. She had known nothing about Zhou Xiaoyue taking leave. When Qi Leyu had come by yesterday, Zhou Xiaoyue had not been there. Perhaps someone had told her something.

The office was full of people and full of gossip. Yuan Zhong found it terribly annoying, but there was nothing she could do about it.
